When evaluating the Nectar Classic Memory Foam, mattress tester Livvi DiCicco found it to be a memory foam mattress that checks all the boxes. The twin-sized Nectar excels in categories where many all-foam mattresses often fall short, particularly in cooling and responsiveness. Livvi rated the Nectar Classic 4/5 or higher in cooling, responsiveness, and motion isolation.
That said, the Nectar Classic wonโt work for everyone. Its firmer feel may not provide enough cushioning around the shoulders and hips for strict side sleepers with sensitive joints. They awarded this mattress a rating of 4/5 or higher in response and motion isolation, categories that donโt always play well together. It got its highest score (4.4/5) in edge support, so although youโre sleeping on a smaller surface, you should feel securely in place on this bed.
However, if all that tossing and turning causes you to work up a sweat at night, the Helix Midnight might run a little too warm for you. We gave the Midnight a 3.5/5, as its cooling abilities were only slightly above average. I would recommend one of our best cooling mattresses instead if you find yourself overheating at night.
The top layer feels plush and cushioned, but it didnโt feel too restrictive. I was able to move from my back to my side, or my side to my stomach, without too much effort. That said, I had to exert some effort turning all the way from my back to my stomach.

Melanie Kassel and her fellow mattress testers gave this mattress a rating of 4/5 or higher in terms of back pressure relief and edge support. It also received 4.4 stars for cooling, meaning those who heat up at night should fare well on this bed.
Unfortunately, the WinkBed falls somewhat short in side-sleeping pressure relief and motion isolation. Strict side sleepers with joint pain may not find cushioning around their hips and shoulders on this bed. Meanwhile, those who like to try out various positions throughout the night will likely not appreciate the effort involved in tossing and turning on the WinkBed. You will also likely notice some motion transfer on the WinkBed, which is less than ideal if you share your space with a wiggly pet.
The WinkBed had really stellar edge support in all three sleeping positions. If my eyes had been closed, I would not have been able to tell you I was near the edge. Memory foam lovers who want a cool, crisp sleep experience will especially appreciate it. We awarded the Bear a 4/5 or higher in cooling and edge support, which are categories where many all-foam mattresses typically struggle. It also received a 4.3 and 4 in motion isolation and responsiveness, which is a bit of an anomaly, as many mattresses that are easy to move around on often transfer more motion.
However, where the Bear falls short is in pressure relief. Its firmer feel works best for back sleepers, but side sleepers may find it lacks sufficient contouring at the shoulders and hips. Side sleepers will likely need a softer model or a pillow-top mattress to provide more cushioning along these parts of the body.
While the mattress got warmer under the places where my body was applying the most pressure (my head and hips), its temperature didnโt fluctuate much for a foam mattress.

How We Tested the Best Twin Mattresses
When curating this list of the best twin-sized mattresses, my fellow mattress testers and I leveraged our research-backed review methodology to evaluate the edge support, pressure relief, and cooling of every model on this list. Learn more about the tests we performed on these mattresses below.
Edge Support
We test edge support to determine how secure and steady a mattress feels along its perimeter (and across its entire surface). A mattress with a strong perimeter will allow you to use its full surface, which is particularly important for twin beds with a smaller footprint. We also treat edge performance as a sign of durability.
Mattresses with reinforced perimeters are less likely to collapse or sag over time, as Dr. Dasgupta explains, โA mattress built to last typically combines a sturdy support system with reinforced edge stability. This combination helps the bed resist sagging and maintain its structure long-term.โ
When assessing edge support, we ran three different tests:
Tape Measure Test: We placed three stacks of weights (99 lbs, 154 lbs, and 198 lbs) on the mattress edge to represent different body types, then measured sinkage. Across all models weโve tested, the average sinkage is about 3.7 inches.
Seated Test: Our testers sat on the edge and repeatedly stood up, mimicking everyday movements like getting out of bed. This revealed how well the perimeter withstands concentrated pressure.
Full Body Test: Testers stretched out along the edge in multiple sleeping positions to check whether the perimeter felt as supportive as the center. A quality twin mattress should maximize usable surface area.
Among the hundreds of mattresses weโve tested, the average edge support score is 4.1/5. That said, we consider anything at or above 4/5 to be a great score. The Nectar Classic was the only mattress on this list to fall short of that benchmark, which isnโt too surprising given its all-foam construction. Without a reinforced coil system, the foam compresses more noticeably around the perimeter.
A mattress with good pressure relief prevents stress from accumulating in sensitive areas, such as the hips, shoulders, and lower back. Without it, sleepers may wake up with stiffness, pain, or interrupted rest.

Testers lay on their backs and sides while the mat captured data using color-coded thermal imaging. In addition to considering the pressure maps, we also assess pressure relief through direct feedback from our mattress testers. Our in-house team lies on each bed in both back- and side-sleeping positions and then reports any pressure or tension buildup in the shoulders, hips, or lower back. Their feedback helps us gauge real-world comfort beyond the data alone.
The average pressure-relief score across all the models weโve tested is 4/5. Many of the options on this list scored above that benchmark. Generally, the mattresses that missed the mark prioritize stability and support over deep pressure relief.
Temperature regulation is a key factor for uninterrupted sleep, especially since twin mattresses with foam-forward constructions can hold onto heat. To measure cooling performance, we used a thermal gun to track the amount of heat each mattress retained. We record the mattressโs surface temperature before and after lying on it for 7 minutes.
Next, we graded the results using the following scale:
5 degrees or less = Excellent
5 to 10 degrees = Good
10 to 15 degrees = Fair
Over 15 degrees = Poor
