Multiple color options
Sleep cool
Soft, silk-like feel
Cons
Might feel too slick for some
Not ideal for those who like thick sheets

Our Expert’s Take

If you like silky, luxurious sheets, the LUXOME sheet set might be for you. They’re made from 100% bamboo viscose, which is naturally breathable and moisture-wicking. When I curled up in these sheets, I didn’t feel hot or stuffy.

These sheets aren’t just cooling–they’re also high-quality. These sheets are OEKO-Tex certified, which means they were made without any harmful chemicals. Plus, bamboo is a naturally hypoallergenic and antimicrobial material.

These sheets have a thread count of 400, which is partly why they allow so much room for airflow. Because these sheets don’t have a thick weave pattern, they feel light and airy.

What We Love About the LUXOME Luxury Sheets

  • Bamboo sheets are known for feeling soft and silky. The LUXOME sheets are no exception. The bamboo is also woven into a sateen weave to create a soft, smooth texture.
  • These sheets have the added benefit of being both breathable and moisture-wicking. This means that the LUXOME sheets will be able to keep you cool and dry while you sleep.
  • LUXOME offers this sheet set in a wide variety of colors.

What to Keep In Mind About the LUXOME Luxury Sheets

  • For those that aren’t accustomed to bamboo sheets, these might feel a little slick in comparison to other materials like cotton and linen.
  • While these sheets are great for hot sleepers, they might not be thick enough for those that get cold quickly or live in cooler climates.

Our Expert’s Take

When Oprah gets involved, everyone pays attention. Cozy Earth’s luxury bamboo sheets were named the softest sheets by Oprah.

In addition to feeling luxuriously soft, sheets made from bamboo viscose are more durable than cotton sheets. So the Cozy Earth sheets should last a long time.

For a luxury set of sheets, caring for them is fairly simple. Into the washing machine they go, and then machine-dry as you would normal sheets. It’s always nice when luxury lasts a long time.

What We Love About the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheets

  • They’re some of the softest sheets I’ve tried, so I agree with Oprah!
  • Bamboo viscose is durable, and with easy care, these luxury sheets should last a long time.
  • They’re a safe pick for people with sensitive allergies. Bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic and will fight common allergens in your sleep environment.

Our Expert’s Take

Saatva makes a high-quality set of super smooth and incredibly soft sateen sheets. If you’re looking for this exact feel, as well as a luxury hotel look, then the Saatva Organic Sateen Sheets could be for you.

Saatva uses 100% organic cotton that’s Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified. This means the cotton grew without harmful chemicals and pesticides and in a socially responsible way.

These sheets are constructed with a sateen weave, leaving these sheets buttery smooth and luxuriously soft. These sheets are made with light and airy cotton, and they have a thread count of 300. This makes them breathable and good for hot sleepers.

What We Love About the Saatva Organic Sateen Sheets

  • This is an organic set of cotton sheets, and it’s a great option for eco-conscious shoppers.
  • The sateen weave leaves these sheets feeling very soft and buttery smooth, which is great if you don’t love the feeling of crisp sheets.
  • The lower thread count on these sheets, coupled with cotton’s natural breathability, makes them a great option for hot sleepers.

What to Keep In Mind About the Saatva Organic Sateen Sheet

  • These sheets only come in three shades: white, ivory, and gray. This could be limiting for those who prefer more options.
  • At full price, these sheets cost about $300, so they aren’t the most budget-friendly sheets.

Pros
Temperature regulating
Crisp cotton feel
Secure fit
Cons

Our Expert’s Take

If you have the perfect room temperature, but still feel hot while you sleep, your sheets could be trapping heat. Luckily, Sleep Number designed some of our favorite cooling sheets.

Sleep Number infused its True Temp sheets with 37.5 active particle technology. This unique feature should adjust to your body temperature and dissipate your body heat.

Made of a blend of cotton, polyester, and spandex, these sheets also feel naturally breathable. Hot sleepers should feel comfortable in these sheets.

What We Love About the Sleep Number True Temp Sheets

  • The 37.5 active particle technology makes them some of the best cooling sheets.
  • They have a classic cotton feel.
  • With an ExactFit design (a sturdy elastic band), the fitted sheet shouldn’t pop up during the night.

What to Keep In Mind About the Sleep Number True Temp Sheets

  • Sleep Number only offers these sheets in white. For some, this isn’t an issue, but people who prefer color options should look elsewhere.

Pros
Lightweight feel

Crisp texture
Cons
Pricey for some
Not ideal for those who prefer a silk or satin-like feel

Our Expert’s Take

There are a few different types of cotton used for sheets. For traditional cotton, we love the Boll & Branch set. These sheets are favored by past presidents, after all. It’s been rumored that Bill Clinton and George W. Bush used and endorsed these sheets.

Cotton is a traditional material to use in sheets, but it often feels rather crisp. While the Boll & Branch sheets are made out of 100% organic cotton, the cotton is spun to give these sheets a softer feel. They might have a crisp feel at first, but they’ll get softer with use.

The fitted sheet has deep pockets and can fit mattresses up to 17” tall. This is great for people who toss and turn and don’t want to fuss with readjusting the fitted sheet.

Hot sleepers will enjoy the breathable cotton in these sheets. With a 300 thread count, there should be plenty of room for airflow.

What We Love About the Boll & Branch Sheets

  • They’re made of 100% organic cotton and feel slightly crisp at first. But the cotton is spun in a way to make them a bit softer than other cotton sheets.
  • Boll & Branch offers more than just classic white color options, so these sheets should work for a variety of bedroom aesthetics.
  • These sheets are made with lightweight cotton and have a low thread count, which makes them feel breathable and cool.

What to Keep In Mind About the Boll & Branch Sheets

  • Even thought these sheets get sofer with time, some might prefer the silk-like or satin-like feel of other sheet materials, such as bamboo or TENCEL.
  • At full price, these sheets cost about $280, which might not fit every budget.

Pros
Soft, fuzzy feel
Offered in multiple color & design options
Great for winter
Cons
Not ideal for year-round use

Our Expert’s Take

If you’re the type of person who gets cold quickly, flannel sheets are the way to go. Flannel sheets are made with a technique called “napping,” which gives it a fuzzy texture. Because of this, flannel sheets are great for keeping you warm.

Flannel can be made with a variety of materials, and the Brooklinen flannel sheets are made from cotton. The brushed feel leaves these sheets feeling very soft and cozy. These sheets are made from lightweight flannel, so they are a bit more breathable than many others on the market. With these sheets, you should feel warm, but not stuffy.

What We Love About the Brooklinen Flannel Sheets

  • The Brooklinen flannel sheets feel soft and fuzzy.
  • Flannel is good for keeping you warm, but this set of sheets are more lightweight, so you’ll feel comfortably warm rather than hot and stuffy.
  • Brooklinen offers these sheets a variety of colors and design options.

What to Keep In Mind About the Brooklinen Flannel Sheets

  • Because of the nature of flannel sheets, these might not be the best for people who run hot at night.

Pros
Breathable & moisture-wicking
Soft, silk-like texture
Sturdy elastic for secure fit
Cons
Only offered in white and gray

Our Expert’s Take

On the other side of the weave spectrum we have the sateen weave. This style of weave is a bit tighter and leaves sheets feeling soft and satiny. The Puffy Bamboo sheets are a cool set of sheets that feature this satin-like weave.

Made from 100% bamboo viscose, the Puffy bamboo sheets feel soft and luxurious. Bamboo viscose is known to be a breathable and moisture-wicking material. As a hot sleeper, these became a quick favorite of mine to stay cool at night.

These sheets have deep pockets and can fit mattresses up to 15” tall. They have a sturdy elastic band in the fitted sheet, with extra corner bands to attach the fitted sheet to your bed.

What Makes the Puffy Bamboo Sheets Stand Out?

  • The Puffy sheets are soft and silky.
  • Hot sleepers will love bamboo sheets because of their moisture-wicking properties. This means night sweats are no problem.
  • Tossing and turning won’t be an issue thanks to the fitted sheets’ deep pockets and a sturdy elastic band.

Pros
Made with high-quality Egyptian cotton
Multiple color options
Lightweight and breathable
Cons
Some might not love the crisp feeling

Our Expert’s Take

Egyptian cotton is more durable than traditional cotton and can be woven tighter than traditional cotton. My favorite set of Egyptian cotton sheets is the Parachute Percale sheet set. They have a classic crisp feeling, but the sheets still feel very cozy and comfortable.

These sheets have a percale weave, also known as a plain weave, which leaves the sheets with a crisp feel and a matte look. As cotton sheets with a percale weave, they should have plenty of breathability.

What We Love About the Parachute Percale Sheets

  • Egyptian cotton is more durable than traditional cotton, so these sheets should last a long time.
  • Parachute offers these sheets in a range of color options.
  • They’re lightweight, but still comfortable and cozy, making them a good choice for hot sleepers.

What to Keep In Mind About the Parachute Percale Sheets

  • The percale weave leaves these sheets feeling very crisp, like a fresh pressed button-down shirt. For some, this texture is ideal, but if you prefer something smoother and softer, I would suggest a sateen weave set of sheets or something made of bamboo.

Pros
Breathable and lightweight
Durable
Made with 100% organic flax
Cons
Might be too rough for some
Pricey

Our Expert’s Take

Linen sheets are some of the oldest styles of sheets. Made from fibers pulled from flax stalks, linens are a great organic and hypoallergenic pick.

Avocado makes some eco-friendly beds, and its sheets are no exception. The Avocado Organic Linen sheets are made with the traditional flax, and they are breathable and durable.

The linen is 100% Global Organic Textile Standard certified, so if you’re an eco-conscious shopper, these are a great pick.

They have a more textured feel and are weightier than other sheets out there. They’re fairly easy to take care of, too. Just make sure you don’t use bleach or fabric softener, and these sheets should last you a long time.

What We Love About the Avocado Organic Linen Sheets

  • Avocado is known for using certified organic, sustainable, and responsibly-sourced materials, and these sheets are no exception.
  • Flax is known for being breathable, lightweight, and moisture-wicking. This makes them a great pick for hot sleepers.
  • These linen sheets are durable, and they get softer with time. This makes them a worthy investment.

What to Keep In Mind About the Avocado Organic Linen Sheets

  • Linen sheets are known for having a slight coarse texture to them. They are designed to get softer with each wash, but if you’ve never had linen sheets before, this is something to know.

These sheets are made with a percale weave, and the West Texas cotton is known for being a breathable material. This set of sheets is going to be a great option for hot sleepers out there.

Pros

Our Expert’s Take

Sometimes you want a high-quality set of sheets that don’t break the bank. Brooklyn Bedding is known for their affordable mattresses, and their sheets are also reasonably priced. A queen size set will run you less than $50 when discounted!

Made from microfibers that are finely woven together, these sheets feel soft to the touch. They’re made to be breathable, allowing air to flow through easily. They also have moisture-wicking properties to them. This is great news for hot sleepers.

What We Love About the Brooklyn Bedding Brushed Microfiber Sheets

  • Brooklyn Bedding is dedicated to giving customers affordable sleep products, and their sheets are a great option if you’re shopping on a budget.
  • The microfibers are brushed, and these sheets feel plush and soft.
  • These sheets are offered in a few color options.

What to Keep In Mind About the Brooklyn Bedding Brushed Microfiber Sheets

  • Because these sheets aren’t as luxurious as many others on this list, they may not last longer than a year or two.

What To Consider When Buying Sheets

There’s a lot to consider when looking for a new set of sheets. Let’s take a look at some of the key factors before clicking that “check out” button.

Materials

Not all materials that go into making sheets feel the same. Cotton is a common material that feels crisp to the touch. But when blended with other materials, it can make the sheets feel a bit softer.

Bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic, which is great if you have sensitive allergies. Sheets made with bamboo viscose tend to be much softer than cotton as well. Overall, cotton and bamboo are both great options for hot sleepers.

Linens and flannels will also feel much different. The Avocado Organic Linen sheets feel textured, and the Casper Flannel sheets are made of brushed cotton, giving them a fuzzier feel.

It’s best to know how sheets should feel before buying something you haven’t felt before!

Weave

The most common weave styles you’ll see in sheets are percale and sateen.

The percale weave is often a looser weave style, and will leave sheets feeling rather crisp and looking matte. We typically see percale weaves in sheets made with cotton. Because it’s a bit more open, percale sheets will be able to let air flow in a bit easier.

percale vs sateen weave comparison

The sateen weave is a tighter weave, but it leaves sheets feeling much softer and with a satin feeling. Cotton can be woven with this weave, and we see it with bamboo as well. Because of its closer knit, sateen sheets may trap heat a little more than percale sheets.

To learn more about the differences between percale vs sateen sheets, we’ve got a whole guide for you!

Care

Most sheets by now are machine washable. But not every type of sheet can be washed and dried the same way.

It’s important to pay attention to what the manufacturer recommends. Often they’ll suggest what water temperature to wash in, what cycle to use, and if you should avoid bleach or fabric softener.

Sleep Number Sheets Care

Some of the sheets on this list are also recommended to be line dried. This might not be feasible for everybody. One way to do so if you live in a small space might be by draping the sheets over your shower curtain rod. Most of the time, the dryer will be an option as well.

Price

Price Graphic

Prices always vary, and it depends on the type of weave, materials used, and how those materials are treated in the making of the sheets.

Some more luxury sets on this list are the Cozy Earth Bamboo sheets and the Avocado Organic Linen sheets. More goes into these sheets to make them eco-friendly and the companies go out of their way to remove toxins and harmful chemicals in treating the materials that go into their sheets.

More expensive doesn’t always mean better. The Brooklyn Bedding and the Tuft & Needle sets are on the more affordable end of the price spectrum, but are still high quality sheets.

What’s the Best Material for Sheets?

There’s no one best material for sheets. Most of the time it boils down to personal preference. Let’s take a moment to talk about some of the different materials out there and what makes them stand apart from one another.

Cotton

There are many different types of cotton on the market, from standard cotton to Egyptian and Supima cotton. You’ll see these types of cotton a lot, as cotton is a fairly standard material to make fabrics with.

14 Types Of Pillows You Should Know About

Overall, cotton sheets will feel crisp to start, but will get softer with use. Some people like that crisp feel to their sheets, and cotton is the main material to give that feel.

Egyptian and Supima cotton are grown in different circumstances, and are typically a little bit more durable than standard cotton.

Bamboo

As a textbook hot sleeper, I really love bamboo sheets. One of the main features to bamboo sheets is that they’re moisture-wicking. This means you won’t sleep hot and sweaty during the night.

If you suffer from sensitive allergies, bamboo sheets are a great pick because they’re naturally hypoallergenic. Bamboo viscose can fight common allergens and resist dust in your sleep environment.

Overall, they feel much more soft and satin-like over cotton sheets.

Tencel

Another plant based fabric is Tencel, also referred to as Tencel lyocell, or just lyocell. It’s a material that’s derived from eucalyptus. Like bamboo, it has natural moisture-wicking properties to it. Sheets made with this material are a great option for hot sleepers out there.

RELATED: Eucalyptus vs. Bamboo Sheets

Others

Linens are some of the oldest style sheets out there, and can feel more textured than some of the other materials. Overall, linen sheets are weightier and more durable than cotton.

Flannels are great at retaining heat because of the way they’re made. The fabric is napped and brushed, which gives it a fuzzy feel. If you get cold quickly, flannels might be a great option to go with.

FAQs

What’s the best thread count for sheets?

Contrary to popular belief, there’s no one “best” thread count for sheets. You’ve got to take into consideration the type of material used, and whether or not you’re a hot sleeper. As a general range, anywhere from 200 to 800 is considered a good thread count. But certain materials have recommended thread counts. Read our best thread count for sheets article to learn more.

What is the best type of sheet?

Here at Mattress Clarity, we love cotton and bamboo sheets. These are great materials for hot sleepers, because they’re breathable and don’t trap heat often.

But always remember, what you prefer will influence what you think is the best type of sheet.

How long do sheets last?

Any good sheet set should last you at a minimum a year. Bamboo viscose is known to last at least five years, so material plays a role here, too. But here are some general tips you can do to make your sheets last longer:

  • Mild detergents will be much kinder to your sheets, and you should avoid pouring detergent directly on them.
  • Don’t dry on a high heat. Typically, if you dry your sheets too hot, you run the risk of shrinking them.
How often should you change your sheets?

It’s recommended that you wash your sheets at least once a week. Washing your sheets is just part of good hygiene. Because you can produce sweat while you sleep, and if you share your bed with a partner or pets, sheets can get dirty fairly quickly.
