Mattresses can be a major investment. After spending your hard-earned money, you want to trust that your mattress is going to last. That’s why it can be so discouraging when the mattress starts to sag.

But not all mattresses will give up on you quickly. After reviewing tons of mattresses, I’ve found five that should stand up to years of use. They are high-quality, durable, and, most importantly, won’t sag.

Top Picks Compared

Best Under $1000

Purple

The Purple is one of the most durable mattresses I have come across. It features a hyper-elastic gel polymer in its construction. The polymer forms a gel grid that is much more durable than the foams you find in many bed-in-a-box mattresses. It shouldn’t sag even after many years of use.

The original Purple mattress has 2″ of this gel grid on top of foam. While this is a very durable mattress, the new Purple mattresses should be even more durable. The Purple 2, 3, and 4 include high-grade coils and thick gel grid layers. If you are a larger person or want a thicker comfort layer, these new Purple mattresses might be a better choice.

Besides being very durable, the Purple mattresses are also a great fit for all three sleeping positions. The gel grid is designed to stay flat and supportive until a certain amount of pressure is applied. When this happens, the grid collapses just in that area.

When you’re on your back, the mattress just collapses under your hips and butt. When you’re on your side, it collapses under your shoulders and hips. Finally, on your stomach, the mattress does not really collapse at all. All in all, the mattress offers a great balance of comfort and support.

What Makes The Purple Stand Out?

  • The gel grid is a very durable material. It shouldn’t sag like many foams can do.
  • Those wanting even more durability can take a look at the Purple 2, 3, or 4.
  • The gel grid makes the Purple a good match for all three sleeping positions.
  • The mattress allows for quite a bit of airflow. It is temperature-neutral and should be a good match for hot sleepers

Best Under $800

GhostBed

The GhostBed is a very durable mattress and is also a great deal. At a price of less than $800 for a Queen mattress, it is very affordable and shouldn’t sag

The mattress has latex over a memory foam layer over a base layer. Latex is a naturally durable material, and the memory foam is also high-density. Altogether, the mattress should be a good long-term investment.

The GhostBed is one of the firmer mattresses on this list. Because of this, it is a good choice for back and stomach sleepers. Even heavier people should get the support they need on the GhostBed mattress.

In general, it is hard to find a mattress this durable for such a low price.

What Makes The GhostBed Stand Out?

  • It is a very durable mattress sold at a value price.
  • The GhostBed is a firmer mattress that should be a good fit for back and stomach sleepers.
  • The mattress has a good amount of bounce. It should be easy to move around without feeling stuck.

Memory Foam Mattress

Loom & Leaf

The Loom & Leaf is a memory foam mattress that features very high-density foams. While many bed-in-a-box mattresses feature lower-density foams, the Loom & Leaf does not. The top layer features a 4-lb density, and the next layer is of a 5-lb density. Because of this, the Loom & Leaf shouldn’t sag as many memory foam mattresses do.

The mattress also has a nice balance of comfort and support. Back sleepers should feel their hips sink in just the right amount while also feeling support on the lumbar area. Side sleepers should feel little pressure on their shoulders and hips. Stomach sleepers should also feel well-supported.

If you want a luxurious memory foam mattress that will last for a good amount of time, the Loom & Leaf could be right for you.

What Makes The Loom & Leaf Stand Out?

  • The mattress features high-density foams that shouldn’t sag.
  • It is a great option for those wanting a durable memory foam mattress.
  • It is a supportive and very comfortable mattress.

Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid

The Bloom Hybrid is one of Brooklyn Bedding‘s quality mattress models. The company owns its own factory, so (as with its other models) the Bloom Hybrid is sold at a value price.

The mattress is a hybrid mattress with latex and coils. These both make the Bloom Hybrid a very durable mattress. The latex means it shouldn’t sag and should keep its shape for a good amount of time. Without spending too much money, you get a durable, latex hybrid mattress.

In addition, the Bloom Hybrid has a balance of comfort and support. The latex should relieve pressure on the shoulders and hips, while the coils should offer a good amount of support (even for heavier people).

What Makes The Bloom Hybrid Stand Out?

  • It is a durable mattress sold at an affordable price.
  • The mattress contains natural latex, which shouldn’t sag over time.
  • It should be supportive enough for heavier people.

Made For Heavy People

WinkBeds Plus

The WinkBeds Plus is one of WinkBeds’ hybrid mattresses. It’s also designed specifically for heavier people.

Sagging is often a real issue for heavier sleepers. The top layer of this mattress consists of Body Impression-Proof Foam that is made to fight sagging. Additionally, it has coils and high-density foams that shouldn’t sag over time.

Heavier back and stomach sleepers should enjoy the WinkBeds Plus. There is a zoned support layer that is firmer under the heavier parts of the body. Back sleepers should feel their hips sink into the tufted top and then supportive coils beneath that. Stomach sleepers should also feel properly supported.

Also, hot sleepers shouldn’t have to worry about overheating on the WinkBeds Plus. The coils allow for good airflow, while the cover and top layer help dissipate heat.

What Makes The WinkBeds Plus Stand Out?

  • The mattress is made to resist sagging. Even larger people shouldn’t leave indentations in the mattress.
  • The coils and zoned support system mean the mattress should be able to handle people of larger weights.
  • The mattress contains many features to combat overheating.

Marten’s Take

Marten is a staff writer for us. He has a much different body type than me: He is 6’7″ and weighs about 230 lb; I am 5’9″ and 160 lb. Here is what he thought about these mattresses:

First, I reviewed the WinkBeds Plus. It’s made specifically for larger people like me. It’s very supportive and durable. You have high-density foams on top and high-grade coils beneath that. It shouldn’t sag.

Then, we have the GhostBed. This was a good fit for me when I was on my back and stomach. It was also very supportive.

The Purple is a great choice for heavier sleepers who sleep in any position. It’s a great fit whether I am on my back, side, or stomach.

The Bloom Hybrid is the best fit for heavier back sleepers. My hips sunk in just the right amount, but not too far. It felt great when I was on my back.

The Loom & Leaf is a great choice for heavier side sleepers. It feels a bit firm at first, but it does soften up after a few moments. I feel great pressure relief on my shoulders and hips.

It seems Marten thought all five mattresses could be a good fit for him. This is not really surprising. These are all very durable mattresses, and durability is usually accompanied by a decent amount of support.

What Should You Consider When Finding A Mattress That Won’t Sag?

  • Foam density. Mattresses often sag because there is a layer of low-density foam somewhere in the construction. If you want a foam mattress that won’t sag, pay close attention to the foam density. If you choose a mattress that is 2.5- or 3-lb foam, it might start to sag. Pick a mattress with 4- or 5-lb density foam, and you shouldn’t have issues with sagging.
  • The type of foam. Along with density, you also want to consider the type of foam. If you want a mattress that won’t sag, latex foam is going to be your best bet. It is responsive, bouncy, and durable. This natural product can handle heavier weights without sagging.
  • A mattress with coils. If you want a mattress that isn’t going to sag, take a look at something with coils. These add an extra level of support and durability. The coils will help support heavier weights while also fighting sagging in the mattress.

Overall

Sagging mattresses are the worst. If you want to avoid sagging, consider one of these five mattresses. If you want to look elsewhere, make sure the mattress has high-density foams and/or coils. Then lie back and enjoy your durable, long-lasting mattress.
