Brooklyn Bedding EcoSleep Mattress Overview

Brooklyn Bedding has spent years building its reputation for producing quality mattresses at value prices. Their secret? The brand owns its own factory in the USA, which allows it to cut out middlemen and pass on the cost savings to customers. They have many models including the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora, Dreamfoam Essential, and Dreamfoam Copper Dreams.

The EcoSleep mattress is a hybrid bed and, as the name suggests, it is an eco-friendly mattress. It’s made with organic cotton, sustainably sourced Joma wool, and all-natural latex. This construction will appeal to many types of sleepers, but it won’t be a fit for everyone. Here’s a quick look at who’s most likely to enjoy this mattress and who might need to keep looking.

EcoSleep Mattress Video Review

Take the EcoSleep for a vicarious test spin with our in-depth video review! Our reviewer, Joe, will assess each layer of this bed’s construction and share his experiences with sleeping in every position on the EcoSleep.

EcoSleep Mattress Firmness And Feel

Whenever you’re assessing a potential new mattress, it’s helpful to think about firmness and feel. These factors influence whether a bed will be well-suited to your preferred sleep position(s) and other sleep preferences. So let’s jump-start the in-depth portion of this review by taking a look at the EcoSleep’s firmness and feel!

How Firm Is The EcoSleep?

We ranked the EcoSleep at an 8 out of 10. The industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the mattress is significantly firmer than average. This makes sense when you consider that the bed uses coils and latex to create a highly supportive sleep surface.

Note that firmness is a bit subjective, so it’s possible that you might rank the EcoSleep as a hair firmer or softer. But it’s safe to say that everyone will find this bed to be on the firm side.

Sleeping On The EcoSleep

While lying on his back on the mattress, our average-weight reviewer found that the mattress felt too firm. It certainly offers spinal support, but it didn’t provide any pressure relief.

Not surprisingly, the EcoSleep also proved too firm for side sleeping. Our reviewer felt a lot of pressure around the shoulder and hip, which are common hot spots for side sleepers.

EcoSleep Mattress Side Sleeping

In our experience, the EcoSleep is a great match for stomach sleeping. It’s highly supportive and did a nice job of keeping the hips in line with the spine.

What Does The EcoSleep Feel Like?

The EcoSleep has a bouncy, responsive feel. The combination of responsive latex and coils makes it very easy to move around on this mattress, and it’s easy to change positions during the night.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

Average-weight back sleepers will probably find the Ecosleep to be too firm. Average-weight side sleepers will almost certainly find that the mattress is too firm for this position and will want to look for a dedicated mattress for side sleepers. Average-weight stomach sleepers should enjoy plenty of spinal support on the EcoSleep.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

Heavyweight back sleepers should feel well supported on the EcoSleep, but it is almost certainly too firm for heavyweight side sleepers. Heavyweight stomach sleepers, on the other hand, should enjoy the EcoSleep. To see some more supportive options, check out the Titan mattress as well as our best mattresses for heavy people.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

In general, the EcoSleep is probably too firm for most lightweight sleepers, who are unlikely to obtain anywhere near enough pressure relief while back or side sleeping. That said, it’s possible that lightweight stomach sleepers who enjoy a firm feel could feel at home on the mattress.

EcoSleep Mattress Construction

Now that you know what it’s like to sleep on top of the EcoSleep mattress, let’s take a look at what’s underneath the cover! We’ll assess each layer of this bed’s construction and share how different materials affect performance and feel.

Cover

The mattress features an organic cotton cover that is quilted with Joma wool for added softness and breathability. The brand says the wool is sustainably sourced.

Comfort Layers

The primary comfort layer on the EcoSleep is made from 3” of plush natural Talalay latex, which is very bouncy, responsive, and naturally cooling.

EcoSleep Mattress Construction

Support Layer

The support layer for both sides of the mattress is made from 8” of individually-wrapped coils, which are highly supportive, breathable, and durable.

Mattress Height

The EcoSleep mattress is 11” tall.

EcoSleep Mattress Performance

This far into this review, you’re probably starting to determine whether the EcoSleep could be the mattress for you. But don’t make up your mind just yet! We still need to cover several critical performance indicators, which we thoroughly tested on this mattress. Let’s see how it did!

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

The EcoSleep is a very breathable mattress that should help you sleep cool. The coils in the center of the mattress promote airflow, while the natural latex is quite breathable and shouldn’t trap heat. Finally, the wool under the cover is also a naturally breathable material that should keep the top of the mattress nice and airy.

Motion Transfer

Latex and coils are both bouncy and responsive materials, so it probably won’t come as a shock that the EcoSleep doesn’t perform the best when it comes to motion transfer. Movements from a restless partner or pet could easily transfer across the surface of the mattress, so keep this in mind if you’re looking for a mattress for couples.

Edge Support

The EcoSleep is very firm and supportive overall, and this extends the whole way out to its edges. We felt very secure while sitting and lying down near the edges of this mattress. Partners should be able to utilize the full surface of this mattress with no issues.

EcoSleep Edge Support

Durability

The EcoSleep contains highly durable materials, including natural latex and steel coils. This should be a long-lasting mattress that won’t sag for years to come. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a long-term investment.

Off-Gassing

You shouldn’t notice any real off-gassing with the EcoSleep mattress.

Noise

At the time of our review, we didn’t observe any notable noise from the EcoSleep. That said, because it contains coils, it’s possible they could start to squeak a bit over time.

Sex

When people look for a mattress for sex, they’re usually concerned with being able to change positions easily. The EcoSleep should be a great match. It’s bouncy and highly responsive, so partners shouldn’t feel stuck in this bed.

Company Policies

If you choose to purchase the EcoSleep mattress, here’s a quick look at the company policies that you’ll encounter.

Warranty Info

Brooklyn Bedding’s EcoSleep mattress comes with a 10-year warranty.

Sleep Trial

The EcoSleep comes with a 120-night sleep trial.

Return Policy

The EcoSleep comes with free shipping and returns. If the EcoSleep isn’t working for you, Brooklyn Bedding might offer a mattress topper or exchange your mattress for another model. If none of this works, they will give you a full refund.

Common Brooklyn Bedding Complaints

It probably won’t come as a surprise that one of the biggest complaints about the EcoSleep is the fact that it’s not well-suited to side sleepers. Additionally, some customers have complained about being disturbed by their partner’s movements during the night.

How Does The EcoSleep Compare To Other Mattresses?

If you want to feel confident in whatever mattress you choose, then it’s a good idea to do some comparison shopping during your mattress search. To make things easier, we’ve pitted the EcoSleep against two other powerhouse latex mattresses. Let’s see how they compare!

To see how it compares to other brands, check out our Brooklyn Bedding mattress comparisons.

Brooklyn Bedding EcoSleep Vs Saatva Latex Hybrid

Brooklyn Bedding’s EcoSleep mattress and Saatva’s latex hybrid have fairly similar constructions. They’re both hybrid beds that layer latex over coils, and they’re made with eco-friendly materials.

Saatva Latex Hybrid - Construction

In spite of their similarities, these beds vary quite a bit when it comes to firmness. We ranked the EcoSleep around an 8/10. Meanwhile, we ranked the Saatva around 7/10—still firmer than average, but softer than the EcoSleep.

Excluding their differences in firmness, the EcoSleep and the Saatva Latex Hybrid are fairly similar in feel. The EcoSleep is highly bouncy, supportive, and responsive, while the Saatva is buoyant, supportive, responsive, and just a touch more pressure-relieving.

Finally, these beds vary pretty dramatically in price. A Queen-size EcoSleep starts at $1327.00 at full price, while the same size Saatva Latex Hybrid comes in at $2195.00 at full price.

Who Should Get The EcoSleep?

  • People who enjoy a very firm mattress

Brooklyn Bedding EcoSleep Vs Avocado

Both the EcoSleep and the Avocado mattresses are durable latex hybrid mattresses that layer responsive latex over supportive coils. The Avocado comes with an optional 2” pillow top, which changes its feel significantly. (More on that in a moment!)

Avocado Mattress - Construction

These beds differ dramatically when it comes to firmness. We ranked the EcoSleep around an 8/10, which is firmer than average. The Avocado is much softer than the EcoSleep at around 6.5/10, or right around average firmness.

When it comes to feel, the EcoSleep is highly supportive and responsive. The Avocado is also bouncy, but the pillow top creates a much plusher feel near the top of the bed.

These beds also differ when it comes to price. A Queen-size EcoSleep starts at $1327.00 (at full price), while the same size Avocado starts at $1999.00.

Who Should Get The EcoSleep?
