Helix Twilight Luxe Mattress Overview

Helix’s line of mattresses is great for shoppers who have no idea what they are looking for. The brand offers firm mattresses, soft mattresses and everything in between. The Helix site even features a sleep quiz to help you find the perfect mattress for your sleeping preferences.

If you like a mattress that is just a tad firmer than average, Helix will probably recommend the Helix Twilight Luxe. It is one of the brand’s firmest mattresses and is also part of the Helix Luxe line. The Luxe mattresses boast pillow tops, cooling features and luxurious materials. There’s a lot to love about the Helix Twilight Luxe, but it is going to work well for particular types of sleepers.

Pros of the Helix Twilight Luxe Mattress

  • It works well for stomach sleepers, because its firm feel helps promote the proper spinal alignment.
  • Back sleepers should also get the lumbar support they need on this mattress.
  • It’s a great cooling mattress, thanks to its breathable coils.
  • Fans of luxury mattresses will like the Helix Twilight Luxe mattress.

Cons of the Helix Twilight Luxe Mattress

  • Fans of soft mattresses won’t like the Helix Twilight Luxe. This mattress comes in at 7/10 on our firmness scale, which is a half point firmer than the industry standard.
  • Side sleepers will need more pressure relief and may prefer the Helix Sunset Luxe mattress.
  • Shoppers who want a cheap mattress should look elsewhere. Because this mattress contains high-quality materials, like zoned coils, it has a higher price point.

Helix Twilight Luxe Mattress Firmness and Feel

Firmness and feel should be top of mind when you’re deciding on a new mattress. This will let you know if a particular mattress is right for your sleeping positions and other preferences.

How Firm is the Helix Twilight Luxe?

On a firmness scale of 1-10, the Helix Twilight Luxe feels like a 7/10. For reference, 6.5/10 is the industry standard for medium-firm, so the Helix Twilight Luxe is just a bit firmer than average. The combination of supportive coils and high-density foam creates this firm feel.

Sleeping On The Helix Twilight Luxe

I thought the Helix Twilight Luxe was a good match while back sleeping. Lying on my back, my hips sank in the right amount, and I could feel the extra lower back support from the zoned coils. As I will discuss below, I weigh 270 lb—lightweight back sleepers might have a different experience on the Helix Twilight Luxe.

Side sleeping, the Helix Twilight Luxe felt too firm for me. Side sleepers usually fare better on softer mattresses that offer pressure relief for the shoulders and hips. If you are a side sleeper, consider the Helix Sunset Luxe and Helix Moonlight Luxe, Helix’s two softest models. These will provide better contouring and cushioning.

I felt great support when I slept on my stomach. Firm mattresses work well for stomach sleepers, and the Helix Twilight Luxe is no exception. I couldn’t feel my hips sinking forward into the mattress, and I also felt good support across my entire body. If you want even more support, the firmer Helix Dawn Luxe could be a good option.

What Does The Helix Twilight Luxe Feel Like?

The Helix Twilight Luxe is a hybrid mattress, and like most hybrid mattresses, it is very bouncy. The coils and foams are quite responsive and make it very easy to move around and change positions. You get a bit of a pillow top right on top, but it is not too plush. Overall, it felt like I slept “on top of” the mattress rather than “inside it.”

Is the Helix Twilight Luxe Mattress Good For Lightweight People (Under 130 lb)?

  • Lightweight back sleepers will likely find that this mattress feels too firm.
  • Side sleepers in this category will need more pressure relief and should consider getting one of the best mattresses for lightweight sleepers.
  • This mattress is supportive enough for lightweight stomach sleepers. People in this weight range won’t compress the top layer too much, so they should get the hip support they need in order to maintain the correct spinal alignment.

Is the Helix Twilight Luxe Mattress Good For Average Weight People (130 – 230 lb)?

  • Average weight back sleepers who weigh closer to 130 lb will probably find the Twilight Luxe to be too firm. However, the mattress could work for back sleepers who weigh closer to 230 lb; they will be heavy enough to compress the top layers.
  • Side sleepers probably won’t get enough pressure relief on this mattress. The Helix Sunset or Helix Midnight could be better options.
  • It’s a great match for average weight stomach sleepers. Its firm feel should help sleepers in this weight range maintain the proper spinal alignment.

Is the Helix Twilight Luxe Mattress Good For Heavyweight People (Over 230 lb)?

  • This mattress works well for back sleepers who weigh less than 275 lb, but heavier people may sink further into the top layer and develop lower back pain.
  • Heavyweight side sleepers will likely develop joint pain on this mattress. Take a look at our best mattresses for heavy people for some other options.
  • The Helix Twilight Luxe mattress works well for stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 and 275 lb, but heavier people may need more hip support.

Helix Twilight Luxe Mattress Construction

Now, let’s take a look at what’s inside the Helix Twilight Luxe. We’ll discuss each layer and what it is designed to do.

Cover

You can select one of two covers for the Helix Twilight Luxe. The standard cover is made from Tencel, an eco-friendly, rayon-based material. It is both breathable and slightly cooling as well.

For a few hundred dollars more, you can go with the GlacioTex™ cooling cover. This cover is cool to the touch and helps draw heat away from the body.

Comfort Layers

The Twilight Luxe’s main comfort layer is a slightly plush pillow top. It is tufted with a bit of foam and adds some soft comfort right on top of the mattress.

Below that, there is a layer of firm Helix Responsive Foam. This is a cooling foam that is both dense and supportive. It rests on a layer of Memory Plus Foam. This softens the top of the mattress and offers a bit of body contouring.

The final foam layer is made of Helix Responsive Foam. This acts as a transition layer and also helps to support the comfort layers above.

Support Layer

The Helix Twilight Luxe features pocketed coils that are supportive and bouncy. This layer is also zoned, meaning the center is firmer than areas toward the head and feet of the mattress. This offers additional lumbar support and helps keep the spine in a neutral alignment.

Finally, on the very bottom, there is a base layer made of DuraDense Foam. This supports all the layers above and also prevents the coils from poking down into the foundation or bed frame.

Mattress Height

The Helix Twilight Luxe is 13.5” tall.

Helix Twilight Luxe Mattress Performance

I ran a number of tests on the Helix Twilight Luxe to find out how cooling and durable it really was. Read on to see the results.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Like the other Helix Luxe mattresses, the Twilight Luxe is very cooling. I reviewed the mattress with the additional cooling pillow top, and it really lives up to its name. I could feel it drawing heat away from my body as I lay on the mattress. This should be a good mattress for hot sleepers.

Motion Transfer

If you sleep with a partner, there’s little worse than their movements waking you up at night. When this occurs, their motion transfers across the mattress and disturbs you on your side. Some mattresses cut down on motion transfer, and some don’t perform quite as well.

During my tests, the Helix Twilight Luxe isolated motion to each side of the mattress. I laid on one side of the mattress while my coworker rolled around on the other side and got in and out of bed. I did not feel this on my side of the mattress.

Edge Support

Edge support is also important for couples to think about. If your mattress has good edge support, it will allow you and your partner to sleep toward the edge and get the most space possible.

A man sits on the edge of the Helix Twilight Luxe

The Helix Twilight Luxe features excellent edge support and did not collapse too much when I sat near the edge.

Durability

The Helix Twilight Luxe contains some high-quality, durable materials such as high-density foams and pocketed coils. These materials add life to a mattress and prevent sagging over time. The Helix Twilight Luxe is a durable mattress and should last at least 10 years.

Off-gassing

If you’ve ever unboxed a new bed-in-a-box mattress, you might have noticed a slight chemical smell. This is called off-gassing, and it is a normal occurrence with new mattresses.

When I unboxed the Helix Twilight Luxe, it did give off a chemical smell, but it went away after 48 hours. If you purchase the Twilight Luxe, I recommend leaving it in a ventilated room and allowing it to fully off-gas and expand before using it.

Noise

The Helix Twilight Luxe did not make any noise when I rolled around and changed positions. However, it is a hybrid mattress, and those coils could squeak after you had the mattress for a number of years.

Sex

The best mattresses for sex are responsive and make it easy for partners to move around. The Helix Twilight Luxe is very responsive and should work well for sexual partners.

Company Policies

When you’re making a big mattress purchase, it’s always a good idea to check out the fine print.

Warranty Info

Helix Sleep offers a 15-year limited warranty on the Twilight Luxe mattress. It’s important to note that Helix will void your warranty if you take the cover off the mattress.

Sleep Trial

The Helix Twilight Luxe comes with a 100-night sleep trial period.

Return Policy

If you decide you don’t like the Helix Twilight Luxe mattress during the trial period, Helix will give you a full refund.

If you’re a stomach sleeper and prefer a firm mattress, Helix might recommend the Helix Twilight Standard or Helix Twilight Luxe. The Helix Twilight Standard features coils and three layers of foam. The Helix Twilight Luxe features these same materials plus a pillow top, zoned coils and optional cooling cover.

With these additional features, the Helix Twilight Luxe sleeps cooler than the Helix Twilight Standard. While the Luxe model costs more, it’s also a better investment.

Both the Helix Twilight Luxe and DreamCloud Premier mattresses are luxurious hybrid beds, but they aren’t identical. First of all, the DreamCloud Premier mattress is slightly softer than the Twilight Luxe, coming in at 6.5/10. The DreamCloud premier has more of an innerspring construction, so you’ll feel more of the coils than the comfort layers.

Both mattresses have good edge support and motion isolation, but the DreamCloud Premier has better company policies. If you purchase a DreamCloud mattress, you get a whopping 365-night sleep trial. The DreamCloud Premier also has a lower price point, so if you’re on a budget, it might be the better option.

The Takeaway

The Helix Twilight Luxe mattress is a great match for many back and stomach sleepers, but it doesn’t offer enough pressure relief for side sleepers. It isolates motion well and has great edge support, so it’s a good mattress for couples.
