Key Differences Between The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe And Brooklyn Spartan?

While these beds have a lot in common, at the end of the day they’re still very distinct mattresses. Here’s a look at some of their key differences.

  • The Spartan includes extra technology not featured in the Aurora Luxe. It has Far Infrared Technology in the cover, which could support muscle recovery.
  • The Medium model of the Spartan is softer than average, while the Medium version of the Aurora Luxe is firmer than average.
  • Thanks to its firmness, the Aurora Luxe mattress will be better for back and stomach sleepers, while the softer Spartan is better for side sleepers
  • The Aurora Luxe is more affordable than the Spartan.

Firmness And Feel Differences

Let’s get to know the Aurora Luxe and Spartan even better with a close look at what it feels like to sleep on each of these beds. We’ll detail our rankings for each bed’s firmness plus share how we felt while sleeping in every position on both the Aurora Luxe and Spartan!

How Firm Are The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe And Brooklyn Spartan Mattresses?

We ranked the Medium version of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe around 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the Medium version of the Aurora Luxe is medium-firm. Its softer comfort layers are balanced out by the supportive coils underneath. Note that the Soft and Firm versions of the Aurora Luxe will have a different firmness level.

We ranked the Medium version of the Brooklyn Bedding Spartan around 5.5/10, or softer than average. The comfort layers and individually wrapped coils offer some gentle body contouring. As with the Aurora Luxe, note that the Soft and Firm versions of the Spartan will have different firmnesses. Of course, firmness is always a bit subjective and you might rank these beds a bit differently based on your body weight and personal preferences.

Sleeping On The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe And Brooklyn Spartan Mattresses

We found the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe to be a good match for back sleeping. It has a supportive feel that kept our hips and spine aligned. While side sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe, we felt some notable pressure around our shoulders and hips. People who prefer this position will want to consider the Spartan or another mattress for side sleeping. We enjoyed good support while stomach sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe. Our hips stayed elevated and aligned with the spine.

In our experience, the Brooklyn Spartan proved too soft for back sleeping. Our hips bowed a bit too far into the mattress, which could cause lower back pain over time. The Brooklyn Spartan felt like a great match for side sleeping. We sank into the thick comfort layer and experienced virtually no pressure around the shoulder and hip. As with back sleeping, the Spartan felt too soft for stomach sleeping. Our hips bowed into the mattress and pulled the spine out of alignment.

What Do The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe And Brooklyn Spartan Feel Like?

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has a bouncy, responsive feel. Sleepers shouldn’t feel stuck in this mattress, and it should be easy to move around and change positions on this bed.

The Brooklyn Spartan has a balanced, responsive feel. The thick comfort layer lets sleepers sink into the bed, and the Spartan feels plusher than the Aurora Luxe, but the coils underneath still add some bounce. As with the Aurora Luxe, it’s easy to move around on the Spartan.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

The Medium version of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe should offer average-weight back sleepers a great balance of comfort and spinal support. Average-weight side sleepers will probably find this mattress generates too much pressure around the shoulder and hip. Average-weight stomach sleepers should get enough spinal support on this mattress.

The Soft and Medium versions of the Brooklyn Spartan will almost certainly be too soft for average-weight back and stomach sleepers, who will want to consider the Firm model. Average-weight side sleepers should find the Soft or Medium version of this mattress to be a great fit, as it will offer loads of pressure relief around the shoulder and hip.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh under 300 pounds should benefit from a balance of pressure relief and spinal support on the Medium model of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe. People who weigh more than 300 pounds will probably require a mattress made for heavy people, such as the Brooklyn Bedding Titan Luxe Hybrid or Titan Firm Hybrid. Heavyweight side sleepers will probably find that this mattress feels too firm around the shoulder and hip. Heavyweight stomach sleepers might not get enough support on this bed.

The Brooklyn Spartan’s Medium version won’t be supportive enough for heavyweight back or stomach sleepers. The Firm model might work, although folks who weigh more than 300 pounds will probably require a more supportive bed overall. Heavyweight side sleepers should enjoy plenty of pressure relief on the Spartan’s Medium model.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe’s Medium version could be a good match for lightweight back sleepers, who should benefit from spinal support as well as some pressure relief. Lightweight side sleepers will probably feel too much pressure around the shoulder and hip. Lightweight stomach sleepers should find that the Aurora Luxe keeps their spine aligned.

The Brooklyn Spartan’s Firm model should be a good match for lightweight back and stomach sleepers, but the Medium and Soft models won’t be supportive enough for these sleeping positions. Lightweight side sleepers should enjoy loads of pressure relief on the Soft or Medium version of this bed.

Mattress Construction Differences

Let’s dive deeper into the Aurora Luxe and Spartan mattresses (literally!) with a look at what’s inside each bed. We’ll detail each layer of these beds’ constructions and reveal how different materials influence feel, cooling, and more.

Cover

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe’s TitanCool cover is soft, breathable, and cool to the touch. It includes Phase Change Material, which draws heat away from the body to create a cooler sleeping surface.

The Brooklyn Spartan features a high-tech cover that utilizes Far Infrared Technology, which assists with muscle recovery by converting your body’s heat waves into energy and reflecting that energy back to your body. As with the Aurora Luxe, the Spartan also incorporates cooling Phase Change Material so the surface of the mattress stays cool to the touch.

Comfort Layers

The Aurora Luxe and Spartan actually feature the exact same construction in their comfort layers. The primary comfort layer consists of 1.5” of the brand’s patented CopperFlex Foam, which offers body contouring and pressure relief. It’s also infused with copper, which helps with cooling.

Beneath the CopperFlex Foam, there’s a 2” layer of hyper-elastic TitanFlex Foam. This material is bouncy, responsive, and infused with TitaniumGel for additional cooling.

Finally, there’s a 1” transition layer made from visco-elastic, gel swirl memory foam. This offers extra body contouring and creates a buffer between the comfort layers and the firmer coils underneath. Plus, the gel helps pull heat away from the body.

Support Layers

The Aurora Luxe’s support layer consists of 8” coils that are individually wrapped to minimize motion transfer. Underneath the coils, there’s a base layer of high-density foam that provides overall structure and support for the mattress.

The Spartan features an 8” base of approximately 1,000 individually wrapped Ascension X coils. As with the Aurora Luxe, the individually wrapped coil construction helps minimize motion transfer. Beneath the coils, there’s a 1” layer of the same high-density foam that’s on the bottom of the Aurora Luxe.

Mattress Height

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is 13” tall.

The Brooklyn Spartan is just a touch taller at 13.5”.

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe And Brooklyn Spartan Performance Differences

We pitted the Aurora Luxe and Spartan head-to-head in a range of tests to see how they compared in regards to temperature regulation, motion transfer, edge support, and more. Let’s see how they performed!

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

Both beds do a good job of sleeping cool, but the Aurora Luxe could win out. Each mattress boasts a cooling cover and infusions in the comfort layers that help dissipate heat. They also feature coils, which allow for air to circulate throughout the center of the mattress.

So what gives the Aurora Luxe an edge? Because sleepers sink a little less deeply into the Aurora Luxe, they may sleep even cooler on this bed since air can circulate more freely around their body.

Motion Transfer

The Spartan takes the win here. Because it’s softer, it does a better job of absorbing movement and minimizing motion transfer across the surface of the mattress. It doesn’t perform as well as, say, an all-foam mattress, but it does beat out the Aurora Luxe. Because the Aurora Luxe is firmer and a bit bouncier, it doesn’t do a great job of isolating motion. That said, the individually wrapped coils do absorb more movement than more conventional innerspring mattresses.

Edge Support

We called this one a tie. Both mattresses feature decent, but not fantastic, edge support.

We felt fairly secure while sitting and lying down near the edges of both beds. But if you lean over to tie your shoe while perched on the edge of the Aurora Luxe or Spartan, you might feel like you’re going to tumble off.

Brooklyn Bedding Spartan - Edge Support

Durability

Both the Aurora Luxe and Spartan are made with high-quality, long-lasting materials, including sturdy coils. Each of these beds should be a solid long-term investment. With proper care, expect them to last for at least 7 – 10 years.

Off-Gassing

We did notice a natural scent immediately after unboxing both the Aurora Luxe and the Spartan. This is common among bed-in-a-box mattresses. The foams in each of these beds are CertiPUR-US certified, which means they’re more eco-friendly and low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Any scent should dissipate within 48 hours.

Noise

We didn’t notice any real noise from the Aurora Luxe or the Spartan during our reviews. That said, both of these beds do use coils—which means they could start to squeak a bit over the long-term.

Sex

The Aurora Luxe ekes out a win here. Both of these beds are responsive, which means sexual partners shouldn’t feel stuck in either mattress. But because the Aurora Luxe is firmer than the Spartan, it will be slightly easier for sexual partners to maneuver on this mattress.

Company Policies

Before you purchase any mattress, it’s a good idea to read the fine print. Here’s an overview of Brooklyn Bedding’s policies.

Warranty Info

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe comes with a 10-year warranty, which includes coverage for comfort layer impressions and premature deterioration in the foam. Note that this warranty becomes void if you don’t use the proper foundation.

Perhaps not surprisingly (since they’re made by the same brand), the Spartan comes with essentially the same 10-year warranty as the Aurora Luxe.

Sleep Trial

All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses come with a 120-night sleep trial, and that includes the Aurora Luxe and Spartan. This gives you approximately four months to decide whether the mattress is right for you.

Return Policy

If you’re not satisfied with the Aurora Luxe or Spartan mattress, then Brooklyn Bedding will work with you to identify the best solution. They might help you adjust the bed’s firmness with a mattress topper or change the bed’s support system. If you’re still not feeling good, you can return the mattress for a full refund as long as you initiate the return during the 120-night sleep trial.
