TEMPUR-Pedic is known for their high-end line of memory foam mattresses. The company transformed the industry more than two decades ago when they took memory foam mattresses mainstream.  The foam used was originally developed for NASA as a material to cushion aircraft seats but was introduced to consumers through the TEMPUR-Pedic mattress brand in 1992.

The company went public in 2003 and then merged with Sealy Corporation in 2012.  Currently, they are manufacturing in their factories in Virginia, New Mexico, and El Salvador.

The brand is now synonymous with memory foam and it has continued to have major success. They currently offer five types of mattresses:

  • TEMPUR-Adapt
  • TEMPUR-ProAdapt Series
  • TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt Series
  • TEMPUR-PRObreeze Series
  • TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Series

This review will take a look at the collection of their mattresses as a whole. We’ll include who we think should consider a TEMPUR-Pedic bed and which series and model you might be interested in.

We also have detailed breakdowns for each series that you can check out once you have a good idea of which one might be right for you.

Who Should Be Interested In Tempur-Pedic Mattresses

Those Who Prefer The Contouring Feel of Memory Foam.

Memory foam beds are not for everybody but those who enjoy the feel of memory foam really tend to like it a lot. I would only look at TEMPUR-Pedic if you are specifically seeking out memory foam.  If you aren’t sure, try and test out a memory foam mattress that’s available to you and see if you enjoy the feel.  If you do, then any one of the TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses could be a great fit for you.

Someone Looking For Pain Reduction

The mattresses are great at providing pain relief and that’s a big reason people love TEMPUR-Pedic. The high-quality memory foam reduces the pressure points, allowing for a comfortable sleeping experience that doesn’t hurt the hips, shoulders, or neck.

At the same time, their collection of models, especially the higher density models, do a great job of conforming to the contours of a person’s body.  That promotes spinal alignment and ensures the back can be in its natural, healthy position throughout the night.  If you are looking for a mattress that can provide pain reduction, TEMPUR-Pedic might be a good place to look.

Someone Who Has Trouble Sleeping Smoothly Sleep Throughout The Night

TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses do an especially good job of relieving pressure points.  People tend to wake up in the middle of the night when there is too much pressure on either the hips, back, or shoulders.  People will wake up with soreness or the feeling of numbness because of that pressure. The brand does a great job of addressing this issue, and most people will sleep better throughout the night as a result.

TEMPUR-Pedic does an especially good with motion transfer (especially the higher density models).  So if you sleep with a partner and that person moves around in the bed, you likely will not be disturbed by that movement.  This can really improve the overall quality of sleep for both partners. TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses are frequently one of our top picks when it comes to great mattresses for couples.

Who Might Not Want To Get A Tempur-Pedic Mattress?

Those Who Are Used To The Traditional Innerspring Feel

Generally speaking, people tend to either love or hate the feeling of memory foam.  There are “memory foam people” and those who just don’t like the feeling.  The traditional innerspring (steel coil) feel is quite different from what you get from most TEMPUR-Pedic models  If you prefer a more traditional style mattress that includes an innerspring coil system, you can look at a TEMPUR-Pedic hybrid model but even that may have too much foam.

You Don’t Plan On Having The Mattress For A Long Time

TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses tend to be higher priced in comparison to some newer bed-in-a-box brands but they’re also more durable in comparison. Mattresses are a long term investment and the longer your mattresses stay in good shape and provides good support, the higher its value is.  If you don’t plan on keeping the mattress for more than a few years, perhaps you can get better value from other options.

Those Looking For A Bouncier, More Resilient Feel

There are many mattresses that provide a bouncier, springier feel to them.  Latex, for example, is well known for being “bouncy,” and supportive – a quality some people prefer over the slower, sinking feeling of memory foam. TEMPUR-Pedic is all about the slow response and pressure relief of memory foam.

Those With Budget Constraints

TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses come in a range of pricing but they’re not budget beds.  If you have limited funds, they might be out of your price range. The most affordable series is TEMPUR-Adapt, which starts at $2,199 for a Queen option.

Which TEMPUR-Pedic Model Should I Get?

This really comes down to your budget and your personal preferences. Here are a few things you should note about their line of mattresses.

  • The softer the model, the more expensive it is. If you want something that’s softer over firmer, you’ll need to expect to pay more for your TEMPUR-Pedic. If you want something firmer, then you are in luck because those models are generally less expensive.
  • Breeze models are effective but pricier. Breeze models do an effective job at keeping the mattress cool, but they are the most expensive line within the brand.  I would recommend doing this only if you are especially sensitive to sleeping hot.
  • Thicker models tend to be more expensive. As you would expect, thicker materials are going to be more expensive.  Some people, like heavier people, for example, should get a thicker mattress, but not everyone needs to do so.

Note About TEMPUR-Pedic Specifications

TEMPUR-Pedic does not lay out the specific layers and construction of their models online. We always do our best to give you as much insight into the construction as possible but you won’t be able to see it layer by layer online.

Does the TEMPUR-Pedic Mattress Sleep Hot?

There have been some complaints with some models that they can “sleep hot.”  If you are especially sensitive to this, they have come out with TEMPUR-breeze collection aims specifically to address this issue.  If you are looking for the best Tempur-Pedic model, the TEMPUR-breeze series might be up there for consideration but they are more expensive.

Final Word

TEMPUR-Pedic was the company that really made the memory foam mattress category happen.  They have a great collection of memory foam mattresses (and some hybrid options) that can be a great option for the right person.

The truth is that TEMPUR-Pedic beds aren’t for everyone, as some people will not like the memory foam feel. For others, they may be out of the budget. If you are considering a bed – they do provide an intriguing set of options for those who are looking for a great memory foam mattress.

  1. We have loved our Tempur-Pedic Cloud Luxe mattress for 5 years now. At $3,500 we felt that we were purchasing a premium product. However, over the last 2 months both of us have begun to experience hip pain and it has become severe. When we get up, the pain subsides within 20 minutes. When we sleep on another bed, we are pain free. This supposed premium product has turned out to be inferior. And of course, there are more exclusions to their warranty than there are threads in the mattress cover. I will NEVER purchase another Tempur-Pedic product ever again, and I will make sure as many people know about my dissatisfaction as possible. This is NOT a good company; it does not stand behind its (discovered inferior) products.

    • DO NOT BUY TEMPUR-PEDIC! I spent $5,700 on a Cloud Breeze Luxe mattress and box spring (which is now discontinued). It was firm for about a year, then I started having lower back pain. I’ve been going to a chiropracter ever since. I’ve never had back pain before I purchased this mattress.

I called Tempurpedic in May of 2019 to report the loss of firm support and back pain – and was advised to turn the mattress. I did so immediately and the bed felt much better and my back pain went away. However, this only lasted through mid-July 2019 and its been losing firmness ever since.

Now, my back pain is right back to where it was before. Just to make absolutely sure that the mattress was the cause of my back pain, I sold (2) expensive Stressless recliners and then, bought the best orthopedic shoes. I also bought an orthopedic harness for wearing during the day which has helped. However, every morning my lower back really hurts, and I can’t wait to put on the back harness (medical device).

I’ve eliminated all other possibilities for my back pain. Additionally, since the “turning” of the mattress had eliminiated my back pain for two and a half months, there can be no other cause for this problem. The memory foam is defective and is not supporting my back properly. The reason I bought the bed originally was for firm support.

      “The 10 year warranty” – a joke

After submitting the warranty claim form, spending (2) hours taking photos, and speaking on the phone with their representatives, I am thoroughly dissatisfied with the response I’ve received from Tempur-pedic.

In my conversations with customer service, they tried shifting the blame to the retailer, but this is poor strategy considering the fact that the mattress is defective.

I spoke to their Executive Director of customer service who was of no assistance whatsoever. I tried presenting every possible alternative to remedy this matter. However, she stated that the warranty does not cover defects regarding loss of support or deterioration of firmness within the mattress. She emphasized that Tempur-pedic bears no responsibility for such a defect.

Additionally, she would not offer any options to settle this matter amicably. I tried explaining that defective products are outside the bounds of a warranty, and if necessary, the Federal Trade Commission can order a national recall. With this particular mattress, I believe such an action is warranted.

If Tempur-pedic refuses to acknowledge the defective nature of this mattress, they leave me no choice but to file a legal action for: 1) consumer misrepresentation, 2) reimbursement of medical bills (over $5,000), 3) pain and suffering for a back-related injury, 4) loss of time from work, and 4) recoupment of legal fees.

Tempur-pedic should be ashamed of how it treats its customers. I’m going to contact other complainants (who have filed on the internet) regarding the defective nature of the Cloud Breeze Luxe mattress. Additionally, I am considering filing a class-action lawsuit to make others aware (as well as the FTC) of the defective/deceptive nature of this product.
