Firmness and Feel Differences

How do these two hybrid mattresses differ in terms of firmness level and feel? I ran several tests to find out!

How Firm Are The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid And DreamCloud Mattresses?

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid comes in three different firmness levels: Soft, Medium, and Firm. I specifically tested the medium model, and it has a 6.5/10 rating on our firmness scale. This is the industry standard, so it should have a nice medium-firm feel.

The DreamCloud mattress is much firmer than the soft and medium Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid models. It scored a 7.5/10 on our firmness scale, which makes it a better choice for stomach and back sleepers.

Sleeping On the Brooklyn Bedding And DreamCloud Mattresses

Most Back sleepers should feel comfortable and supported on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress. Those who weigh closer to 300 lb may need something more supportive.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature - Back Sleeping

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is also a good match for average weight side sleepers. Its soft comfort layer helps alleviate pain on pressure points while contouring the lower back.

For stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 lb, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is a great match. For other stomach sleepers, this mattress will feel too soft. People who prefer this sleeping position will feel more supported by the Firm model.

On the DreamCloud, back sleepers should feel a good balance of comfort and support. The pillow top cover allows hips to gently sink into the top of the mattress, and it offers great lumbar support.

The DreamCloud mattress isn’t a great fit for side sleepers. In this sleeping position, most people will feel some pressure on their hips and shoulders.

DreamCloud Mattress - Side Sleeping

The DreamCloud is firm enough to support most stomach sleepers. On this mattress, stomach sleepers should be able to keep their hips in the proper alignment and avoid developing lower back pain.

What Do The Brooklyn Bedding And DreamCloud Mattresses Feel Like?

Because Brooklyn Bedding and DreamCloud have coils in their support layers, they have a bouncy and responsive feel. However, DreamCloud’s memory foam gives it a bit of that slow-moving feel.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Average weight back sleepers should find the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is a great choice. Side sleepers who weigh between 130 lb and 200 lb should also feel pretty comfortable on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid. Those who weigh closer to 230 lb, however, may prefer the Soft model. Average weight stomach sleepers probably won’t get the necessary support on the Medium model. Instead, they may want to check out the Firm option.

Average weight back sleepers should feel comfortable on the DreamCloud. Side sleepers in this weight range will probably find this mattress to be too firm. Stomach sleepers may get the support they need, but those closer to 200 lb may feel their hips getting out alignment.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

On the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid, heavyweight back sleepers should feel quite comfortable. Those who weigh more than 300 lb, however, may find the bed isn’t supportive enough. Instead, they may want to take a look at some of the best mattresses for heavy people.

Heavier sleepers will have a similar experience on the DreamCloud mattress. While back sleeping, heavyweight people will feel plenty of comfort and support. It’s not a great match for heavier side and stomach sleepers, however. The comfort layers on top won’t offer enough pressure relief while side sleeping, and the mattress isn’t supportive enough to keep the body in alignment while stomach sleeping.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

Lightweight people should find the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is comfortable in all three sleeping positions. The bed offers plenty of comfort and support.

The DreamCloud might be a good fit for lightweight back sleepers who like firm mattresses. Lightweight side sleepers will likely feel too much pressure along their shoulders and hips, but the DreamCloud is a good match for lightweight stomach sleepers.

Mattress Construction Differences

Now, let’s take a look at what makes these two hybrid mattresses different. We’ll examine their soft covers, foam comfort layers, and coil systems.

Brooklyn Bedding and DreamCloud Performance Differences

We’ve learned about each mattress’s construction and feel. Now, let’s take a closer look at their performance features. I’ll investigate each bed’s motion transfer, edge support, durability, and more. To see how they compare to other brands, check out our Brooklyn Bedding mattress comparisons and DreamCloud mattress comparisons.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Both mattresses help sleepers stay cool at night, but the DreamCloud has a slight advantage. The DreamCloud mattress has a breathable cashmere-blend cover, some cooling gel-infused foam, and coils that promote airflow.

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress has a responsive foam layer that helps fight against heat retention, and it also has breathable support coils. However, if you’re a particularly hot sleeper, DreamCloud is the better choice.

Motion Transfer

Couples shopping for a new mattress may want to keep motion transfer in mind. If a bed doesn’t isolate motion well, it’s easier to wake up when a partner shifts sleeping positions.

Brooklyn Bedding’s bouncy coils do not absorb motion well. If motion isolation is a top priority, you may want to look elsewhere. DreamCloud’s motion transfer is slightly better than Brooklyn Bedding’s, but it’s still not excellent. While testing with a glass of water, I noticed a great deal of liquid moving.

For more options, take a look at our list of the best mattresses for couples.

Edge Support

In addition to motion transfer, couples may want to look closely at a mattress’s edge support. If a bed caves near the edge, it can push sleepers closer to the middle of the mattress.

Brooklyn Bedding has decent edge support, but I did feel it collapse a bit while lying near the edge.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature - Edge Support

DreamCloud has better edge support. The reinforced edges helped keep me secure and stable.

DreamCloud Mattress - Edge Support

Durability

In terms of durability, Brooklyn Bedding and DreamCloud are very similar. However, we expect the DreamCloud mattress to last a little bit longer because of its thick layers.

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress should last between seven and 10 years, while the DreamCloud should last at least a decade.

Off-Gassing

New mattresses often emit a slight chemical smell right out of the box. We call this “off-gassing,” and it was noticeable in both the Brooklyn Bedding and DreamCloud mattresses. After 48 hours, however, the smell completely faded away.

Noise

I didn’t notice any noise when testing the Brooklyn Bedding and DreamCloud mattresses. It’s possible the innerspring coils could create sound after years of use, but I do not anticipate this being a big issue.

Sex

Couples looking for a good mattress for sex will want something that’s easy to move around on. Both the Brooklyn Bedding and the DreamCloud have a bouncy coil system, so they should be good options for getting intimate.

Company Policies

Before buying a new mattress, it’s always a smart idea to read the fine print. Check out the policies for Brooklyn Bedding and DreamCloud below.

Warranty Info

Brooklyn Bedding has a 10-year warranty, which is pretty standard in the mattress industry.

DreamCloud is backed by a Lifetime warranty.

Sleep Trial

Brooklyn Bedding has a 120-night sleep trial period.

DreamCloud’s sleep trial period is 365 nights long.

Return Policy

If you aren’t satisfied with your Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress during the 120-night sleep trial, you can return it for a full refund. Brooklyn Bedding does require customers to try the mattress out for at least 30 days before making a final decision, however, because it can often take a few weeks to learn whether a new mattress is a good fit.

Similarly, DreamCloud requires its customers to keep their mattress for 30 days before returning it. If they still aren’t satisfied after that, customers can return it for a full refund — as long as it’s still during the 365-day sleep trial period.
