Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid Mattress Overview

Tempur-Pedic has been an extremely popular mattress brand since it launched in 1992. The company was one of the pioneers of the memory foam mattress, and its proprietary Tempur material is some of the highest-quality types of foam on the market. Tempur material is known for the way it contours and conforms to the shape of your body.

In the past, if you wanted a Tempur-Pedic mattress, you had to buy it in a store. Now, the brand has gotten into the bed-in-a-box game. It offers a few online models, and its Tempur-Cloud Medium mattress is one of the most affordable. It comes in an all-foam version and a hybrid version. We’ll be discussing the hybrid model in this review.

Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid Mattress Firmness and Feel

Let’s start off by looking at the firmness and feel of this mattress. That will give you a good initial idea of whether or not the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid is the right mattress for you.

How Firm Is The Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid?

On a firmness scale of 1-10, this Tempur-Pedic bed comes in at a 6.5/10. This is the industry standard for medium-firm. The top layers of Tempur material provide a good deal of comfort, but they are supportive as well. As I will discuss below, this is a very high-density type of foam, so it is soft, but still able to hold up the body.

It’s important to note that the Tempur-Cloud might have a firm feel at first. It may take some time to soften up and break in.

Sleeping on the Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid

I felt very comfortable back sleeping on the Tempur-Cloud mattress. The Tempur material offered some excellent contouring, and it hugged my body when I lay down. At the same time, I experienced the proper amount of support. Even though I weigh 270 lb, the Tempur material and coils were able to hold up my heavier weight.

A man sleeps on his back on the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid

When I was side sleeping, the mattress relieved almost all pressure on my shoulders and hips. The comfort layer is very thick on the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid and, while I did sink in a fair amount, I did not bottom out. I could also feel the high-density foam filling in my gaps, keeping me in good neutral alignment.

Stomach sleeping, the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid was not firm enough for me. Stomach sleepers require a more supportive mattress to ensure their hips remain elevated. I could feel my hips dipping down into the mattress, and there was some strain in my lower back. Stomach sleepers should consider one of our best firm mattresses.

What Does The Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Feel Like?

While the Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid features coils in its construction, overall it has more of that classic memory foam feel. When I laid down on the mattress, I slowly sank into the surface and felt the memory foam really envelop me.

Because of this, it wasn’t too easy to move around and change positions. The coils added a bit of bounce to the mattress, but I still felt stuck at times.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Average weight back sleepers should love the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid mattress. It features an excellent balance of comfort and support, which is exactly what back sleepers should be looking for. You should feel your hips sink in just the right amount while the rest of your body is supported.

Side sleepers in this weight range should also experience great pressure relief on the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid mattress. This bed boasts a thick comfort layer of Tempur foam that should cushion the shoulders and hips.

Stomach sleeping, people with this body type will probably want to find a firmer mattress overall. They should take a look at a firm mattress that will offer the proper amount of support for their hips. We would recommend something like the Plank by Brooklyn Bedding.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh less than 275 lb should enjoy sleeping on the Tempur-Cloud. However, folks heavier than 275 lb might not get enough support back sleeping. If this applies to you, take a look at our best mattresses for heavy people.

The Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid should provide excellent pressure relief for a good deal of heavyweight side sleepers. However, if you weigh more than 300 lb, the Tempur-Cloud might not be the best match. You could sink too far into the mattress and feel more pressure build-up around your shoulders and hips.

Stomach sleepers in this weight range are going to need a firmer mattress overall. The Tempur-Cloud won’t provide enough support to properly elevate your hips and center mass. This could cause serious back pain over time.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb

Lightweight back sleepers should get the right balance of comfort and support on the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid. However, if you are extremely light, the Tempur material might feel firmer to you. It is very high-density, and you might not be heavy enough to sink in and experience the soft comfort of the Tempur material.

Because of this, very light side sleepers might think the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid is too firm. They could feel some pressure on their shoulders and hips as they won’t compress the comfort layers enough. If you are a lightweight side sleeper, take a look at a softer mattress like the Helix Sunset Luxe.

Lightweight stomach sleepers, on the other hand, could think the Tempur-Cloud is a good fit. Being lighter, they could get the support of the Tempur material, without sinking too far into it to cause their hips to move out of alignment.

Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Construction

Now, let’s take a look at the construction of the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid. We’ll look at all the materials and discuss how they affect the performance of the mattress.

Cover

The Tempur-Cloud Hybrid features a 360 stretch cover that is soft and breathable. It is quite thin and doesn’t affect the overall feel of the mattress.

Comfort Layers

The highlight of this mattress is two layers of Tempur material right on top. The first layer is called Tempur-Comfort and is a new formulation of the popular material. It is very high-density and feels very soft when you apply enough pressure.

Below that, there is a layer of Tempur-Support foam. This is firmer than the layer above and helps support your body during the night. It also acts as a transition layer and works to prevent bottoming out.

Support Layer

As the name suggests, this is a hybrid mattress, so it features coils in its support layer. There are over 1,000 coils in the Tempur-Cloud and they provide excellent support and breathability.

All of these layers rest on a foam base layer. This layer keeps the coils from poking into your bed frame of foundation.

Mattress Height

The Tempur-Cloud Hybrid is 10” tall.

Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid Mattress Performance

I tested the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid to see how it performed with regard to cooling, motion transfer, and other criteria. Let’s see how it did..

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Overall, the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid does not sleep too cool. This is not too surprising given that the mattress features two thick layers of Tempur material. Memory foam like this is known for trapping heat, and I felt myself heat up on the Tempur-Cloud. The coils promote airflow through the bottom part of the mattress, but I really didn’t feel that when I was sleeping.

If you are a hot sleeper, make sure to check out our best cooling mattresses.

Motion Transfer

If you sleep with a partner, you’re going to want a mattress that cuts down on motion transfer. This will ensure you and your partner can move around on the mattress without disturbing one another.

Slow-moving memory foam mattresses usually handle motion transfer very well, and the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid is no exception. I saw great motion isolation on this mattress, so it should be a great mattress for couples.

Edge Support

Edge support is also important to think about if you sleep with a partner. A mattress with solid edge support will allow you and your partner to sleep toward the edge without falling off. This means you and your partner will get more room to stretch out.

The Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid features some very good edge support. I feel very secure sitting and lying down near the edge. I don’t feel like I will fall off or roll off.

Durability

The Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid features some very high-quality, high-density foams that should stand up to years of use. Tempur material is known for its longevity, so this mattress should last for at least 10 years.

Off-gassing

The Tempur-Cloud is an online mattress that is compressed and then shipped to your door. When you unpack most new mattresses, they are going to off-gas. This means they are letting out the gasses trapped during packing and shipment.

This mattress did give off a slight chemical smell when I unwrapped it and placed it on my bed. I gave it 48 hours to fully off-gas and expand. After this time, I did not smell any chemicals and was able to sleep on the mattress without disturbance.

Noise

The Tempur-Cloud mattress did not make any noise when I moved around or changed positions. The Tempur material absorbs almost all vibrations, so the mattress is very quiet. The coils might make some noise over time, but I did not experience that during my time with the mattress.

Sex

If you want a good mattress for sex, a bouncier mattress is usually the way to go. This will make it easy for you and your partner to move around.

The Tempur-Cloud is a slow-moving mattress, so it makes it difficult to change positions. This means it might not work well for sexual partners.

How Does The Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid Compare To Other Mattresses?

Ready to do some comparison shopping? Let’s see how the Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid stacks up against the competition.

Tempur-Cloud Medium Hybrid vs Tempur-Cloud Medium

When you decide to buy a Tempur-Cloud mattress, you can choose between the hybrid and the all-foam bed. They are nearly identical except for one feature – the hybrid features coils while the all-foam mattress features base foam.

With the addition of coils, the hybrid model should be more supportive and breathable. The coils allow for more airflow through the bottom section of the mattress, and they are also more supportive than standard base foam. Without the coils, the all-foam model has even more of that slow-moving memory foam feel

The mattresses are also the same price, so it might be difficult to choose between them. Here is a quick guide to who should get each model.
