When it comes to the overall softness of a set of sheets, thread count comes into play. A set of sheets with a high thread count is the Cloverlane Sateen sheet set, coming in at 600. This higher thread count makes an already soft set of sheets feel incredibly luxe and comfortable.
Cloverlane uses long-staple cotton, which means that the cotton fibers are made into long, thin strands that are very durable. And because they’re so thin, they can be woven into a higher thread count.
What Makes the Cloverlane Sateen Sheets Stand Out?
- These sheets have a higher thread count of 600, which makes them feel luxuriously soft.
- They are a hypoallergenic pick for those worried about their sheets trapping allergens or triggering allergies.
- You’ll have a full year to test these sheets out.

What is the Most Comfortable Thread Count for Sheets?
Believe it or not, thread count isn’t the biggest indicator of a high-quality set of sheets. Thread count impacts two main factors of a sheet’s performance: breathability and feel.
There’s no “one-size-fits all” type of answer to this, but below, I’ve added a brief breakdown of what thread count range you should look for based on the material of sheets you’re looking at.
- Cotton – 200-400
- Egyptian cotton – 400-700
- Cotton sateen – 400-600
- Cotton percale – 200-300
- Bamboo – 300-400
- Tencel lyocell/eucalyptus – 300
As you can see, cotton has a wide range of recommended thread counts, so it’s important to take into account what type of cotton sheets you’re purchasing.

How to Make Your Sheets More Comfortable
Some sheets right out of the packaging will feel crisp, stiff, and not very comfortable. And even quality sheets might feel that way. One quick way to make them feel instantly comfortable is to wash them before your first use.
There are brands that will pre-wash sheets before shipping, but many sheets aren’t as they move through the production process. Washing them is an easy way to remove that factory feel.
Some sheets are intended to be crisp, but will get softer the more you use and wash them. It’s more of a long game effort, but the longer you use sheets, the softer they’ll get. Many people also turn to fabric softener in the wash to help make sheets more comfortable as well.

Why Are Hotel Sheets So Comfortable?
There is something to be said about walking into a hotel room and seeing a pristine set of sheets on the bed. Hotels tend to use percale sheet sets due to their durability and general lightweight construction. Luxury hotels can invest in higher-quality materials, just like Egyptian cotton sheets for example, which is often praised for its soft feel.
Hotels might also invest in high thread counts sheets, which as mentioned, makes sheets feel much softer than those with lower thread counts.
FAQs
Are linen sheets comfortable?
Linen sheets might not be for everyone due to one thing: their texture. Yes it’s true, linens do have a slight coarse texture to them, but high-quality linens won’t feel uncomfortable.
In addition to the Avocado Organic Linens, some soft, comfortable options include the Saatva Linen sheets and the Brooklinen Linen Core sheet set.
For those who love soft linen sheets, you can even opt for the Brooklinen Hardcore Bundle which includes extra pillowcases and a duvet cover.
Are bamboo sheets comfortable?
Personally, bamboo–also called bamboo viscose, viscose, or rayon– sheets are my favorite type of sheets to use. They feel silky smooth, and keep me from overheating during the night. The set of bamboo sheets I use are the Puffy Bamboo sheets, but be sure to check out our list of the best bamboo sheets for more options.
Are microfiber sheets comfortable?
Microfiber, or polyester, sheets are the most accessible type of sheets on the market and are often the most affordable. And despite their synthetic nature, these are often very soft sheets.
These sheets are great for people who are looking for comfort while also on a budget, as you can find microfiber sheets at any major retailer.
