Nest Finch Mattress Review: General Overview
Nest Bedding sells a variety of mattresses, including the Sparrow memory foam hybrid and Owl latex hybrid. But if it’s a pure latex mattress you’re after, the Nest Finch fits the bill. Instead of innerspring support coils, this mattress contains a thick layer of supportive natural Talalay latex. This mattress is available in Medium and Firm, but I’ll focus on the Medium model for this review.
Pros of the Nest Finch Mattress
- Because it’s made with breathable latex, it helps people stay cool at night.
- The Talalay latex layers are particularly durable, so this mattress should last at least a decade.
- The Medium model offers ample lumbar support for back sleepers.
Cons of the Nest Finch Mattress
- Because Talalay latex feels firmer than memory foam, the Nest Finch doesn’t offer a lot of pressure relief for side sleepers.
- It lacks a slow-moving memory foam feel. If you want a mattress that contours your body, you may want to consider getting an all-foam bed like the Nectar instead.

How Firm is the Nest Finch Mattress
The Mattress Clarity firmness scale ranges from 1-10, with 6.5/10 representing the industry standard of medium-firm. In my experience, the Medium model of the Nest Finch mattress feels like a 7.5/10. This isn’t surprising, considering that latex offers more support than memory foam.
That said, firmness is highly subjective and can change depending on your body type and sleeping position. I’m 5’3,” so to get another perspective, I asked my coworker Marten to test the mattress. He’s 6’ 7” and much heavier than I am, but he agreed that the Nest Finch mattress feels like a 7.5/10 on the firmness scale.

Sleeping on the Nest Finch Mattress
Sleeping position also plays a big role in how a mattress feels. To fully understand who the Nest Finch will work for, I took a brief nap in different sleeping positions.
I felt great when I slept on my back. The thick base layer helped support my spine, and the cushioned cover offered a bit of pressure relief. But when I moved to my side, I felt some tension along my shoulder and hip. As a side sleeper, I would need a plush mattress topper in order to feel comfortable on the Nest Finch mattress.
The Nest Finch offered plenty of lumbar support when I rested on my stomach, though. I didn’t feel my hips sink into the top layer, so I was able to maintain the proper spinal alignment. Heavier people may compress the mattress more than I do, so they might prefer the Firm model.
What Does the Nest Finch Mattress Feel Like?
The Nest Finch has a responsive feel. It’s not as bouncy as many innerspring mattresses, but it’s easy to move around on. I felt like I was resting “on top of” the mattress rather than “inside it.”

Around the outside, you’ll find a stretch knit cover made with organic cotton and Joma wool. The cover is quilted with Eco-Flex foam, which offers some additional pressure relief.
Comfort Layer
The comfort layer contains 3” of natural Talalay latex foam. Depending on which model you order, the foam could feel more or less dense. If you order a king or California king mattress, you can customize the firmness level on each side of the mattress.
Support Layers
This is what makes this mattress stand out. Instead of coils or memory foam, the Nest Finch has a 6” layer of firm Talalay latex base foam. This material is more durable than memory foam, and it won’t squeak like innersprings often do.

Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Nest Finch mattress is a great cooling mattress. The latex foam layers feel responsive, so they don’t trap a lot of body heat. Plus, the Nest Finch has a breathable cotton cover that promotes airflow.
Motion Transfer
If you share a bed with a partner, you may want to find a mattress that isolates motion well. Otherwise, you might wake up when the person next to you shifts sleeping positions.
I was surprised at how well the Nest Finch mattress isolated motion. I asked my coworker Marten to roll around on the mattress next to me, and I didn’t feel many of his movements come over to my side of the bed.
Edge Support
The Nest Finch mattress also has nice edge support. When I sat and rested near the sides of the bed, I felt secure and stable. This is another asset for couples, because it means each person can spread out and use the full surface area of the mattress.
Durability
Latex is particularly durable, so I expect this mattress to last longer than others on the market. If taken care of, I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasted longer than 10 years.
Off-gassing
When you first open a bed-in-a-box mattress, it’s common to smell a faint chemical odor. In the mattress industry, we call this “off-gassing.”
Because the Nest Finch is made with natural materials, I didn’t notice the common chemical odor. I did smell a subtle earthy fragrance, but that faded away after 48 hours.
Important note: You’ll want to get a few people to help you unbox this mattress. The Nest Finch weighs well over 200 lb, and the latex foam is difficult to maneuver. It may take you a while to get the mattress out of the box and onto your bed frame.
Noise
When I tested this mattress, I didn’t hear it make any noise. Because the Nest Finch mattress doesn’t contain innersprings, I don’t expect it to squeak as time goes on.
Sex
Couples looking for one of the best mattresses for sex often want beds that are easy to move around on top of. Thanks to the Nest Finch’s bouncy and responsive feel, I say it could be a good option.

The Nest Finch mattress is backed by a lifetime warranty, which covers visible indentions greater than 1” deep, manufacturing flaws with the zipper, and torn covers. If your mattress is deemed defective, Nest will replace it for free.
Sleep Trial
If you purchase a Nest mattress, you will get a 365-night sleep trial period. This means that you have a whole year to decide whether you want to keep your mattress or return it.
Return Policy
Nest Bedding asks customers to try out their mattress for 30 days before issuing a return, because it often takes people a few weeks to get used to a new mattress. If you decide you want to return it, you can do so before the 365-night trial period ends.
After you submit your return, Nest will work with you to find a way to donate or dispose of your mattress. Then you will receive a full refund.
