Firmness And Feel Differences

Now, let’s take a look at how firm the Casper and Casper Wave Hybrid are and discuss just what they feel like.

How Firm Are The Casper And Casper Wave Hybrid Mattresses?

In our experience, the Casper Original mattress feels like a 7/10 and is just a bit firmer than average – the top polyfoam layer is quite soft, and then the layers get progressively firmer the deeper we go. The Casper Wave Hybrid feels like a 6.5/10, about medium in terms of firmness – the mattress feels a bit softer toward the top but, like the Casper, it gets firmer the further we push in.

Both the Casper and Casper Wave Hybrid feature Zoned Support in their design and, because of this, they will feel firmer or softer depending on one’s sleeping position. Both mattresses should feel firmer and more supportive when people are back sleeping and stomach sleeping and softer when they are side sleeping.

Sleeping On The Casper And Casper Wave Hybrid Mattresses

Back sleeping on the Casper Original mattress, we are experiencing a solid balance of comfort and support – our hips sink into the top layer of polyfoam, and the Zoned Support presses up into our lumbar area.

Side sleeping on the Casper Original mattress, we are feeling some okay pressure relief on our shoulders and hips. The mattress is actually softer under the shoulder area, so we are feeling little pressure in that specific area.

Casper Mattress - Side Sleeping

Stomach sleeping, the mattress is offering us a decent amount of support under our hips, but those who sleep primarily on their stomachs might still need a firmer, more supportive mattress.

Back sleeping on the Casper Wave Hybrid, we are also feeling a good balance of comfort and support. With its more advanced zoned construction, we are also feeling better lumbar support on the Wave Hybrid. Adding in the coils in the support layer, the Wave Hybrid also feels more supportive overall.

Casper Wave Hybrid - Back Sleeping

Side sleeping on the Casper Wave Hybrid, we are feeling better pressure relief than we felt on the Casper Original. The top of the mattress is plusher than the Casper Original, so it is offering better pressure relief on our shoulders and hips.

Stomach sleeping, the Casper Wave Hybrid is not quite supportive for us – we can feel our hips bowing into the top foam layers, and we do need more support there.

What Do The Casper And Casper Wave Hybrid Feel Like?

Both the Casper Original and Casper Wave Hybrid feature a balanced foam feel that is quite responsive. The Casper Wave Hybrid does have more bounce than the Casper Original, but it is not difficult to move around on either mattress.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Average weight back sleepers should feel comfortable and supported on both the Casper Original and Casper Wave Hybrid – both should be a good fit for them. Average weight side sleepers, especially those who are closer to 230 lbs, should feel better pressure relief on the softer Casper Wave Hybrid. Stomach sleeping, the majority of average weight people might feel better support on the Casper Original, as the top layers aren’t quite so soft.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

Back sleeping, heavyweight people should feel better support when they are on the Casper Wave Hybrid. The coils and more advanced Zoned Support should ensure that larger people get the comfort and support they need on the Casper Wave Hybrid.

Side sleeping, most heavyweight people should feel better pressure relief when they are on the Casper Wave Hybrid. The plusher top layers should let them sink in and the softer shoulder area should provide extra pressure relief in that area.

Heavier stomach sleepers might not get enough support on the Casper Original and Casper Wave Hybrid mattresses. They will most likely need a firmer mattress to give them the requisite amount of support under their hips.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

Lightweight sleepers should find the Casper Original to be a good match for all three positions. They should also feel good in all three positions when they are on the Casper Wave Hybrid, but some lighter stomach sleepers might think the Wave it just a bit too soft.

Mattress Construction Differences

Now, let’s look inside the Casper Original and Casper Wave Hybrid and see what makes up these mattresses!

Cover

The Casper and Casper Wave Hybrid both feature knit, breathable covers that don’t affect the feel of the mattresses in a significant way.

Comfort Layers

The top layer of the Casper Original mattress is soft responsive polyfoam that features AirScape technology – this is basically ventilation that keeps the foam breathing.

Below that, there is a layer of memory foam that features Zoned Support – the layer is basically firmer toward the center and softer toward the head and foot of the mattress.

Casper Mattress - Construction And Foam Layers

The top layer of the Casper Wave Hybrid is also softer polyfoam with some nice bounce. It also features AirScape technology and boasts a thin layer of gel on top that should help even more with cooling. Below this, there is a layer of all-natural latex foam that features a good amount of bounce; it also features AirScape technology.

The third layer is similar to the main Zoned Support in the Casper Original mattress – it is memory foam and is firmer toward the center. It also features AirScape technology to help with breathability and cooling.

Finally, there is a layer of polyfoam that is zoned and contains gel pods toward the center – this provides more nuanced support under the lumbar area.

Casper Vs Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Performance

We ran the Casper and Casper Wave Hybrid mattresses through a number of tests with regard to cooling, motion transfer, and edge support – let’s see how they scored!

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

In our experience, the Casper Wave Hybrid sleeps cooler than the Casper Original mattress. It features more layers with AirScape technology, a layer of gel on top, and coils that promote airflow through the mattress. It should trap less heat than the Casper Original mattress and should be better for hot sleepers.

Motion Transfer

Between the two mattresses, the Casper Original handles motion transfer better than the Casper Wave Hybrid. The Casper Wave Hybrid features latex in its second layer, which is not the best at absorbing movement. Sleeping partners should disturb each less when they move around on the Casper Original mattress.

Off-gassing

Both the Casper Original and Casper Wave Hybrid come shipped in cardboard boxes. After unpacking and unwrapping them, there is going to be some initial off-gassing, but this is to be expected. We left both mattresses in a ventilated room, and the chemical smell dissipated after 48 hours.

Noise

Moving around on both mattresses, we did not hear any significant noise. That being said, the Casper Wave Hybrid might squeak after many years of use as it contains coils.

Sex

When couples are looking for a good mattress for sex, they should be considering something bouncier and more responsive. Keeping this in mind, both the Casper Original and Casper Wave Hybrid should be a good match for sexual partners – it should be easy for them to move around on both mattresses.
