If you have ever been on vacation and found it difficult to pry yourself out of your luxurious hotel bed, then you are not alone. Whether you are at a Marriott, the Ritz-Carlton, or a Four Seasons, the mattresses found in hotels are designed to deliver exceptional comfort, robust support, and that elusive cloud-like feel that makes every guest feel pampered.
Naturally, plenty of shoppers start their mattress hunt with one goal in mind: finding a bed that feels just like the one they fell in love with on vacation. However, a steep price tag and buzzwords like “hotel-like luxury” don’t necessarily guarantee that you will get the same five-star experience in your own bedroom.
There is no shortage of luxury mattress brands that overpromise and underdeliver, missing the mark on durability, cooling, or the balanced support that truly defines a hotel-quality sleep surface.
For that reason, our in-house sleep experts have rigorously tested dozens of mattresses. We examined everything from pressure relief and motion isolation to edge support and temperature regulation to find the models that genuinely recreate that dreamy, hotel-bed sensation at home.
Read on to discover which models made it onto my list.
Clarity’s Clear Winner
My pick for best hotel mattress is the Helix Midnight Luxe. One of the most popular models from Helix, this bed offers plush comfort, reliable support, and effective temperature regulation. Our in-house sleep experts were impressed across the board, awarding it high marks for pressure relief , edge support , and cooling thanks to its hybrid innerspring construction. However, the Midnight Luxe may be too soft for sleepers over 230 pounds or those who prefer a firmer feel.
Deep pressure relief is a hallmark of luxury hotel mattresses. A mattress with solid pressure relief will relieve discomfort in sensitive areas (including the lower back, hips, and shoulders) to deliver that signature cloud-like sensation hotel guests rave about. Generally, models that earn a 4/5 or higher deliver that plush, cradling comfort associated with high-end hotel stays.
To evaluate pressure relief, we rely on feedback from testers with different body types, sleeping positions, and comfort preferences. Each tester lies on the mattress in multiple positions to assess how evenly it cushions the body and whether it delivers the balanced support that makes hotel mattresses so memorable.
On select models, we use pressure map testing to provide visual confirmation of pressure distribution across the body. The map records average PSI (pounds per square inch), highlighting high-pressure zones in red to help us identify mattresses that deliver the balanced, full-body contouring you’d expect from a luxury hotel bed. PSI readings below 15 for back sleeping and 12 for side sleeping typically indicate above-average pressure relief.
Our expert mattress testers found high-quality mattresses with robust edge support. Edge support is a good indicator of durability, which hotel mattresses are known for. It also prevents you from feeling like you are rolling off the bed, allowing you to use more of your mattress.
Our team assesses edge support by sitting and lying down at the perimeter of each mattress, and by placing weights right on its edges to measure how low it sinks. A score higher than 3.5/5 indicates outstanding edge support.
Because temperature is tied to comfort, we prioritized mattresses with temperature-regulating capabilities in their features and construction. Sleepers who run hot require ample airflow and heat dissipation for comfortable sleep, which is why many of the mattresses on this list are hybrid models with innerspring coils that facilitate airflow or memory foam mattresses with elevated cooling features, such as aerated foam comfort layers or gel-infused layers.
We test cooling by lying on it and measuring the temperature increase after about seven minutes. An increase of around 6 or 7 degrees is considered fairly good cooling and earns a 4/5 in our testing.
Our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches selected the best hotel beds by looking for top performers in the categories above: pressure relief, edge support, and cooling.
But our full process involves testing several aspects of a bed’s performance, including responsiveness, motion isolation, and more. We evaluate and score these factors using specialized technology as well as firsthand accounts of how a bed feels to testers with different body types.
Once we have all those scores, we calculate the bed’s overall score using a weighted formula. This overall score is a good indicator of a mattress’s general quality, and is always a number out of 5.
As we decide which mattresses to feature on any roundup, we only include beds with an overall score of 3.5 out of 5 or higher. Even if a mattress does certain things well, we won’t point you towards it if it falls below this baseline.
We rate each mattress on a scale from 1 to 5 to reflect its overall quality. This number is comprised of individual scores from hands-on testing of materials, firmness, pressure relief, motion transfer, cooling, responsiveness, and more.
The Helix Midnight Luxe is a hybrid mattress. This means it has both cushioning foam and supportive coil layers.
Firmness
On a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest, we rated this mattress 6.5/10. This is the industry standard for medium-firm.

Side Sleepers
Great pressure relief for side sleepers under 230 lbs.
Back Sleepers
Great support for back sleepers under 230 lbs.
Hot Sleepers
This bed’s cooling features can help keep you from overheating at night.
Pros
This bed has a hotel-like feel. The pillow top provides a plush comfort layer to sink into.
The Helix Midnight Luxe sleeps cool. Thanks to its cooling cover and copper-infused memory foam, even hot sleepers shouldn’t worry about overheating on this bed.
Even though it’s a hybrid mattress, this bed has great motion isolation. That means if you co-sleep, you’re less likely to feel your partner’s movements.
Cons
Stomach sleepers probably won’t find this bed supportive enough to keep their spine in proper alignment.
This is a luxury mattress model, so it wouldn’t be considered a budget-buy.

The Helix Midnight Luxe is a premium medium-firm mattress that offers a hotel-like feel for a relatively affordable price. Its zoned support and supportive coil layers make it a great option for back sleepers. It likely isn’t firm enough for most stomach sleepers, though. If you’re looking for a more supportive bed, check out the Titan Plus. Learn more in our video review.
The Helix Midnight Luxe has all the makings of a five-star hotel mattress: it’s plush, supportive, and helps keep you cool so you wake up feeling rejuvenated. Our in-house sleep experts praised the Midnight Luxe’s performance across every category, including pressure relief, edge support, and cooling, where it scored higher than 4/5 in each.
When lying on the Helix Midnight Luxe, you’re immediately greeted by its plush, slow-sinking plush top layer. During testing, our team was impressed by how effectively this cloud-like layer relieved pressure in high-tension areas, including their hips, shoulders, and lower backs. Mattress tester Livvi DiCicco awarded the Midnight Luxe a strong 4.2/5 for overall pressure relief.
“The pillow top is definitely providing a bulk of the cushion here, but I feel like I’m still getting support from the springs below,” Livvi said. “This mattress is a match made in heaven for side sleepers. I really enjoyed resting on my side on this bed. Nothing felt out of alignment.”
The supportive springs in the Helix Midnight Luxe also contribute to some excellent edge support, which Livvi awarded a near-perfect 4.8/5. While lying and sitting along the perimeter of the mattress, Livvi noted that there was no sagging.
“I felt secure while lying along the sides of the mattress,” Livvi said. “Getting in and out was also easy. I didn’t feel like I was going to slide off at any point.”
The innerspring coils in the Midnight Luxe’s hybrid construction also helped keep the mattress ventilated and cool to lie on. Livvi used a thermal gun to measure the increase in its surface temperature after lying on it for seven minutes and found a minor 4.4-degree increase. She gave it a 4.5/5 cooling score.
While the Helix Midnight Luxe performed well across every testing category, it may not be the best fit for sleepers over 230 pounds or those who prefer a firmer mattress. We gave the Midnight Luxe a 6/10 on our firmness scale, which places it just below the industry standard of medium-firm. Sleepers with larger bodies and those who stomach sleep may find that they sink too deeply into the mattress layers, making it difficult to stay comfortable and aligned.
For more information about this model and testing notes from our chief medical product tester, Dr. Hannah Habeeb, head over to our full Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review. If you are interested in the Helix Midnight Luxe but would prefer something firmer, consider trying the Helix Dawn Luxe instead.

The Nectar Premier mattress is a luxurious bed that offers lots of pressure relief. It’s softer than average, which makes it a nice option for many side sleepers. This mattress has cooling gel foam and a cover made with Phase Change Material, so it works well for hot sleepers. However, it may not be supportive enough for many back and stomach sleepers. And because it’s a high-end model, it could be out of some people’s budgets. To learn more, watch our video review.
The Nectar Premier is the perfect mattress for memory foam lovers who love its slow-sinking, pillowy feel. Our in-house mattress experts were impressed with its ability to cushion and cradle high-pressure areas while regulating temperature to keep you cool and comfy. During testing, the Premier scored above a 4.5/5 in the pressure relief and cooling categories.
Mattress expert Melanie Kassel was pleased with the Nectar Premier’s performance in both back and side-sleeping positions, awarding it a 4.6/5 for overall pressure relief. However, she found it to be ideal for side-sleeping, rating that specific position a perfect 5/5 for comfort.
“My hips and shoulders feel aligned and cradled at the same time while on my side,” Melanie said. “I feel loads of pressure relief. This bed was made for side sleeping.”
Our chief medical product tester, Dr. Hannah Habeeb, also agreed with Melanie’s assessment after trying the Nectar Premier on her side and back.
“I instantly felt more comfortable on my side on this mattress,” Dr. Habeeb said. “It’s soft, supportive, and there is no pressure buildup in this position. If anything, there’s pressure relief on my shoulder. I’m getting good contouring that follows the natural spinal curve.”
Temperature regulation is another category in which Nectar mattresses typically perform well, thanks to their cooling-fiber-infused cover layers. The Premier continues to help them maintain their reputation in this category. During testing, our in-house experts gave it a 4.5/5, thanks to its impressive performance in our thermal gun test.
Using a thermal gun to measure the Nectar’s surface temperature before and after lying on it for seven minutes, Melanie found that it only increased by 4.4 degrees, placing it among some of our best cooling options.
“The bed felt cool the whole time I was lying on it,” Melanie said. “I detected no noticeable change in temperature and almost fell totally asleep.”
That said, the Nectar Premier is not the best option for combination sleepers who require a responsive surface to move around and change positions on. Sleepers in this category may find that they sink too far into the mattress and feel stuck in its layers.
Additionally, this mattress is too soft for stomach sleepers, who need a firmer surface to keep their hips elevated and aligned with the rest of their bodies.

The WinkBed is a versatile mattress that provides zoned support and cooling comfort for a fair price. This bed’s excellent responsiveness makes it a good fit for combination sleeper that want a bed that’s easy to move around on. For couples looking for motion isolation, though, this probably isn’t the best choice. Instead, check out the Nectar Premier Copper. Learn more in our video review.
A quality hybrid mattress offers you the best of both worlds. With a hybrid model, you get the responsive support of a traditional innerspring mattress along with the gentle contouring of soft memory foam. Of these mattresses, the original WinkBed is one of our favorites. During testing, we rated this bed 4/5 or higher in edge support and cooling.
Hybrid mattresses are often praised for their excellent support, thanks to the innerspring coils in their construction, and the WinkBed is no different. Mattress tester Melanie Kassel praised its consistent support, noting that she could lie along the perimeter of the bed without feeling unsteady at any moment. Melanie gave the WinkBed an impressive 4.4/5 in our edge support category.
“It had really stellar edge support in all three sleeping positions,” Melanie said. “If my eyes had been closed, I would not have been able to tell you I was near the edge. In every position, I felt fully elevated. It felt like lying on any other part of the bed.”
The WinkBed’s consistent support is also a big plus for back-sleeping, according to our chief medical product tester, Dr. Hannah Habeeb.
“The WinkBed should feel comfortable to most back sleepers, thanks to its supportive design,” said Dr. Habeeb. “I don’t feel any pressure in my hips or shoulders, and my back feels really well supported. I think this is a great match for back sleepers who prefer a firmer surface.”
Another benefit to having innerspring coils in your bed’s construction is temperature regulation. Innerspring coils facilitate airflow and help prevent things from getting too stuffy. During our thermal gun test, Melanie found that the WinkBed does an impressive job at keeping things cool and awarded it a 4/5 in this category.
“There was a 6.7-degree increase after lying on it for 7 minutes,” Melanie said. “However, I could see the thermal imaging gun keep decreasing as we aimed it at the bed during the second reading. The WinkBed seems to be great at cooling! It continued to feel nice and cool during my testing, which impressed me because the base feels so dense and solid under the nice plush pillow top.”
The only areas where Melanie was more critical of the WinkBed were in motion isolation and responsiveness, which scored a 3.7 and 3, respectively. These are not terrible scores, but the WinkBed is likely not the best fit for sleepers with restless partners who are easily disturbed by every movement, or combination sleepers who need a bouncier surface to change sleeping positions.
Head over to our full WinkBed mattress review to learn more. For a hybrid model with better responsiveness and motion isolation, consider checking out the Silk & Snow Hybrid instead.

The Bear Elite Hybrid is Bear’s most high-end mattress. It offers luxury features, like zoned support and extra height, while still offering the temperature regulation Bear mattresses are known for. Based on our testing results, we’d recommend this mattress to average-weight side and back sleepers, as well as hot sleepers. If you’re looking for a cheaper option, check out the Bear Star Hybrid. Learn more in our video review.
The ideal mattress for side sleepers is sufficiently supportive to keep their spines aligned and soft enough to cushion pressure-prone areas, such as the hips and shoulders. The Bear Elite Hybrid strikes a near-perfect balance between the two, earning a 4/5 or higher in our edge support and pressure relief categories.
Mattress expert Cait Giddings was impressed by the Bear Elite Hybrid’s consistent edge-to-edge support during testing. She found that she could lie along the far reaches of the mattress without noticing any sagging or throwing her spine out of alignment, particularly when lying on her side. Cait awarded the Bear Elite Hybrid an impressive 4.6/5 in our overall edge support category.
“I felt like I could lie on the absolute farthest reaches of the bed without sliding or rolling off,” Cait said. “I felt super secure when switching from my back onto my side and vice versa.”
However, pressure relief is equally essential for side sleepers because their elbows and hips are prone to tension buildup while lying in this position. Fortunately, the Bear Elite Hybrid is soft enough to cradle these areas on most sleepers’ bodies. Cait gave it a solid 4/5 for overall pressure relief during testing.
“The mattress has a soft pillow top, so even though it feels pretty firm, there’s plenty of cushioning for side sleeping,” Cait said.
Cait was also sure to invite our chief medical product tester and licensed physical therapist, Dr. Hannah Habeeb, to get her opinion on the Bear Elite Hybrid and determine whether this bed would be a good fit for side sleepers. As a side sleeper herself, Dr. Habeeb enjoyed testing the Bear Elite Hybrid.
“This is really comfortable on my side,” said Dr. Habeeb. “Nothing is hurting, and there’s no pressure. My hips and shoulders are sinking in nicely. It conforms to your body. My spine feels neutral and comfortable.”
Cooling was the only category where the Bear Elite Hybrid didn’t score a 4/5 or higher. Cait found that its soft cover layer absorbed more heat than she would have liked. That said, you can order an optional Celliant-infused cover to help regulate temperature.

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe offers a responsive surface great for combination sleepers. It’s also a good choice for hot sleepers looking for a bed that can keep them cool but that’s available in a wide array of sizes. Learn more in our video review.
A hotel room is one of the few places you can touch the thermostat without panicking over an inflated electricity bill. Luckily, you can recreate that vacation-level chill at home with cooling mattresses built to keep things perfectly crisp. The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Cooling stands out among those mattresses as one of the most luxurious, hotel-like models. During testing, our in-house experts awarded the Aurora Luxe a rating of 4/5 or higher in cooling, edge support, and pressure relief.
As its name suggests, cooling is one of the primary draws of this mattress. The Aurora Luxe Cooling features copper and cooling gel-infused memory foams alongside phase change material in the cover to actively pull heat away from the body. This bed provides a plush, cushiony sleeping experience without making you feel hot and stuffy. In-house tester Cait Giddings awarded the Aurora Luxe a 4.5/5 in the cooling category.
“After measuring its surface temperature with a thermal gun before and after lying on it for seven minutes, it warmed up by less than six degrees,” Cait said. “While I was lying on it, it didn’t feel like it was heating up. The cover of the mattress felt crisp, and I didn’t notice any change in it.”
The Aurora Luxe also had exceptional edge support during our tests, earning a 4.4/5 in this category. The durable innerspring coils ensure that you receive adequate support along the mattress perimeter, so you can lie along the edge of the bed without feeling unsteady or falling off.
“I was surprised by how solid and structured the edge of this bed felt. I didn’t feel like I was sliding off at all when lying along its sides—and I felt like I was barely making a dent when I sat only on the sides,” Cait said.
The Aurora Luxe Cooling’s robust zoned support system also contributes to its excellent performance in the pressure relief category–another category it earned a 4/5. We invited our chief medical product tester, Dr. Hannah Habeeb, to offer her thoughts on the Aurora Luxe. She praised it for being soft enough to relieve pressure along her hips and shoulders, while still being supportive enough to maintain neutral spinal alignment.
“I feel like it does allow you to sink in enough, and my shoulder isn’t uncomfortable on my side on this mattress,” said Dr. Habeeb. “It also feels good and firm enough for back sleeping. However, it still provides great contouring thanks to its memory foam layers.”
The only potential downside of the Aurora Luxe Cooling is that its firmer-than-average construction is likely too rigid for sleepers under 130 pounds and strict side sleepers. Even with the memory foam layers, these sleepers may still require more sinkage around their high-pressure areas. It is also on the pricier side, as it is one of Brooklyn Bedding’s more premium offerings.

Shoppers looking for a long-lasting mattress will love the Saatva. It feature high-density foam and durable coils that should ensure it lasts for over 10 years.

The Saatva is a luxurious hybrid innerspring mattress that should be a great long-term investment. It is available in multiple firmness options, so it should work for the majority of sleeping positions, and its Luxury Firm model is one of the best mattresses for back sleepers. However, lightweight side sleepers and fans of memory foam should look elsewhere. Learn more in our video review.
Pillow-top mattresses are top candidates for sleepers wanting to transform their bedrooms into high-end suites. The Saatva Classic is among the best in this category, thanks to its plush Euro top and dual coil support system. While testing this model, Livvi DiCicco and I gave it a 4.5/5 or higher in edge support and pressure relief.
Edge support, which Livvi and I awarded a perfect 5/5 during testing, is one of the Saatva’s strongest features. Hotel chain mattresses are luxurious and durable in equal measure, and that is precisely what you get with the dual coil support system in the Saatva Classic. Livvi and I took turns lying and sitting along the corners and sides of the Saatva and did not notice any sagging or sinking in the slightest.
“The Saatva is hands-down one of the best mattresses for edge support,” said Livvi. “We recorded just 3 inches of sinkage when measuring it with a tape measure.”
We were also impressed with the pressure relief of the Saatva Classic. During testing, we invited a handful of our colleagues to lie on the Saatva on their backs and sides and provide feedback, and the majority of them praised its performance for back sleeping. We awarded the Saatva a 4.5/5 in this category.
“I really love this mattress,” said one of our in-house testers. “I currently have the plush one at home. The luxury firm is a little firmer than mine, but it still has great pressure relief for my back. It contours my body nicely and keeps my spine aligned.”
Our chief medical product tester and licensed physical therapist, Dr. Hannah Habeeb, also joined us to offer her thoughts on the Saatva Classic. She agreed that it was a solid choice for back sleepers.
“It’s providing really great contouring at my hips and lower back while also providing a great level of support,” said Dr. Habeeb. “The pillow-top is soft, but not too soft. My lumbar region is supported. My upper back also feels really cushioned, and I’m not feeling any pain anywhere.”
The only area where the Saatva Classic showed a less-than-stellar performance was in the motion isolation category, earning a 2.7/5. Due to its dual coil support system, it is a bouncy and responsive mattress. In other words, if your partner is highly sensitive to movement, they will likely be disturbed by any adjustments you make in the middle of the night.
Additionally, the luxury firm version of the Saatva Classic might be too firm for strict side sleepers and for those weighing less than 130 pounds. We would recommend the plush version of the mattress for these sleepers.
Head over to our full Saatva Classic mattress review to learn more about its features. For a similar mattress with stronger motion isolation, consider the WinkBed Plus instead.

The Nolah Evolution Hybrid mattress is available in three firmness levels. The Luxury Firm model works well for many back and side sleepers. This mattress has many cooling features, and it isolates motion well. It’s not a great option for most people who weigh over 300 lb, though. If you fall in this category, you may need more lumbar support. Watch our Nolah Evolution mattress review video to learn more.
If you and your significant other find that the best sleep you get as a couple is on vacation, it might be time to swap your old mattress for the Nolah Evolution. The Nolah Evolution is our favorite hotel-like mattress for couples because it earned a 4/5 or higher in cooling and motion isolation–two essential categories for those sharing a bed with a partner.
Two bodies generate more heat than one, and if you or your partner is a particularly hot sleeper, that fact can cause friction when it comes time to get some rest. Fortunately, the Nolah Evolution is highly effective at regulating temperature, thanks to its breathable innerspring coils. Mattress tester Cait Giddings gave it a 4/5 in this category after lying on it for several minutes.
“I didn’t feel the mattress getting warmer beneath me—it stayed at an even-feeling temperature,” Cait said.
Another deal-breaker for many couples is motion transfer. If one partner is a restless sleeper, then you need a mattress that can effectively isolate their movements to their half of the bed. Out of all our testing categories, the Nolah Evolution performed best here, scoring a perfect 5/5.
“While testing the motion isolation on this mattress, I had another mattress tester lie on the opposite side and toss and turn,” Cait said. “During this test, I could barely feel them get on the mattress and move around. My side of the mattress remained static, regardless of what was happening on the other side.”
Apart from being an above-average option for couples, the Nolah Evolution also has much to offer in terms of individual comfort. During testing, we invited our chief medical product tester, Dr. Hannah Habeeb, to weigh in on the Nolah Evolution. She was a big fan of this mattress, particularly for back sleepers.
“I like this mattress for back sleepers,” said Dr. Habeeb. “I’m finding some nice sinkage and great support at my lumbar region. My hips aren’t tilting uncomfortably, and the space at my lower back is being filled in.”
The area where Nolah falters has nothing to do with the mattress itself but rather the company’s policies. Because the brand offers a limited 120-night sleep trial, we gave it a 3.9/5 in our customer experience category. While 120 nights is not the worst trial period we have seen, we expected a more generous period for a mattress of this caliber.
We rate each mattress on a scale from 1 to 5 to reflect its overall quality. This number is comprised of individual scores from hands-on testing of materials, firmness, pressure relief, motion transfer, cooling, responsiveness, and more.
The Titan Plus is a hybrid mattress. This means it has coils at the bottom and foam on top.

The Titan Plus mattress is very firm. On a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest, we rated it a 9/10.

This mattress has great edge support.
The Titan Plus mattress is breathable and cool, so it works well for hot sleepers.

The Titan Plus mattress works well for many heavyweight back and stomach sleepers. It’s quite firm, coming in at 9/10 on our firmness scale. This means that many side sleepers won’t get the pressure relief they need along their shoulders and hips. Watch our Titan Plus mattress review video to learn more.
Sleepers looking to replace their sagging mattress with durable support and high-end comfort should consider the Titan Plus Core mattress by Brooklyn Bedding. The newest iteration of the Titan Plus Core features eight inches of individually encased innerspring coils beneath three inches of plush foam layers to provide pressure relief while ensuring spinal alignment. During testing, it earned a 4/5 or higher in edge support and cooling.
The Titan line is known for its firm, yet durable support, and the affordable Core model is no exception. Our in-house mattress testers were impressed with its corner-to-corner support, awarding it a 4.2/5 in the edge support category.
“When I sit along the perimeter of the mattress, it gives slightly—maybe an inch or two—but still feels supportive,” one of our experts said. “I don’t get that sensation of sliding off the edge, and the coils underneath do a solid job of keeping me propped up instead of sinking too far in.”
The Core’s edge support is also a good indicator of durability, as Dr. Dasgupta explains, “Durable mattresses typically always have a strong support core and edge support. These are mattresses that withstand wear and maintain their structural integrity over time.”
The Titan Plus Core’s dense innerspring coils do more than provide support; they also help keep the mattress well-ventilated and improve temperature regulation. Our testers appreciated the optional GlacioTex cooling cover layer after lugging the mattress around our Charlotte, NC, studio, and awarded it a 4/5 for cooling.
“After hauling and setting up this heavy mattress, it was such a relief to lie down and feel it instantly draw away the heat,” said one of our testers. “The surface did warm up ever so slightly over time, but never to the point of feeling hot. I think sleepers who run warm will really appreciate how quickly the GlacioTex fabric delivers that refreshing, cool-to-the-touch feel.”
The Titan Plus Core scored well across the board, but that doesn’t mean this mattress is for everyone. While it is highly supportive, it is also on the firmer side of our scale (7.5 out of 10). Side sleepers with sensitive joints and those weighing less than 130 pounds may find that this mattress does not provide cushioning around potential pressure points (like their hips, shoulders, and lower backs).

Stomach Sleepers

Heavyweight Sleepers
This mattress has a thick comfort layer and sturdy coils that can handle heavier weights.
Pros of the Plank Firm
It has a flippable design, so you can easily change its firmness level by turning the mattress over.
It’s the firmest mattress we have tested, so if you need a lot of spinal support, this is a good option.
It works well for stomach sleepers because it helps keep hips elevated and in the correct alignment.
Cons of the Plank Firm
This mattress is too firm for most side sleepers.
Because it’s made entirely out of foam, it tends to trap body heat.

The Plank Firm mattress is one of the most supportive mattresses on the market. It has a flippable design, with two firmness levels in one. On our firmness scale, the the softer side feels like a 8/10 and the firmer side feels like a 9/10. Both sides tend to work well for stomach sleepers, but most side sleepers won’t get enough pressure relief on this bed. Watch our video review to learn more.
The Plank Firm mattress delivers the classic, ultra-sturdy feel you would expect from a high-end hotel bed in an extra-firm model. The Plank is flippable and offers two distinct firmness levels: firm and extra-firm. Our in-house testers found the extra-firm side especially impressive, noting its dependable lumbar support and exceptional stability. We gave this mattress a 4 out of 5 or higher in both edge support and cooling.
Upscale hotel mattresses can resist wear and tear, and the Plank Firm embodies this durability. Mattress tester Cait Giddings awarded the extra-firm side a near-perfect 4.8/5 for edge support, praising its sturdiness even right along the perimeter.
“When I lay on the edge of the bed in all three positions, it felt as firm as it did when I was in the center of it,” Cait said. “I didn’t feel any sagging or sliding—the entire bed felt like lying on a uniform slab with defined edges.”
The Plank Firm performed well in our motion isolation tests, adding to its hotel-like appeal for couples. When testing this bed with one of her fellow mattress testers, Cait noted that she could barely feel any movements ripple from the other side of the bed. She gave it a 4.3/5 in this category.
“I could feel a few of my partner’s movements, but it was only when a part of her body hit the bed with an especially bouncy impact,” Cait said. “The general motion was stifled, and I couldn’t tell when she got out of bed at all.”
As with many ultra-firm mattresses, the Plank Firm’s unyielding support comes with limited contouring. When testing the Plank Firm, our chief medical product tester, Dr. Hannah Habeeb, noted that side sleepers or those with joint pain may find it too rigid.
“While I’m feeling a lot of support on this mattress, there’s not a ton of cushioning,” Dr. Habeeb said. “There’s not enough body contouring to relieve joint pain in this position.”
Motion isolation is another area where it doesn’t match up with a luxurious hotel bed. On the firm side, the Plank earned a 3.3/5, meaning light sleepers may notice some movement from a partner or pet.

Mattress Clarity Test Results: Plank Firm (Extra Firm Side)
The following mattresses are honorable mentions that narrowly missed the final list. Each one brings unique strengths to the table that might align with your particular sleep style or budget.
Saatva Rx – The Saatva Rx is a high-end mattress featuring zoned coils and premium materials. It is particularly beneficial for stomach sleepers and those who suffer from back pain. That said, a queen-sized mattress costs over $3,000, making it a tough buy for most budgets.
Nectar Classic – The Nectar Classic is a favorite among the Mattress Clarity team, and for good reason: it’s an affordable mattress that excelled in our cooling and motion isolation tests. However, we chose the Nectar Premier for this list because its superior pressure relief better captures that plush, cradling sensation you experience in luxury hotel beds.
How We Tested the Best Hotel Mattresses
We put each model through a series of hands-on tests designed to measure comfort, support, temperature regulation, and durability to help you find the right mattress for your sleep setup. Learn more about how we conducted these tests below.
Pressure Relief
A luxurious mattress should evenly distribute weight and cushion the body’s most sensitive areas (shoulders, hips, and lower back) without letting them sink too deeply. Excessive sinkage in these areas can lead to additional strain.
Our testing team, composed of individuals with various body types and preferred sleep positions, lies on each mattress to assess how well it conforms to the body. During this test, we pay close attention to whether the mattress creates or alleviates tension in pressure-prone areas. We also note whether we feel like we are sleeping “on top of” or “in” the mattress, which helps us measure its contouring.
When testing select models, we also leverage a pressure-mapping system to create an image of how well each mattress relieves stress across the body. This tool captures real-time heat maps that identify where pressure builds up on the body.
Edge Support
Hotel mattresses are durable and can maintain their shape for many years. Edge support is a good indicator of durability because it helps us determine how resistant a bed is to sagging. A stable mattress perimeter also makes it easier to get in and out of bed and can reduce strain on sensitive joints.
To assess edge support, our team sits, lies, and shifts positions along the border of each mattress to gauge stability during movement. We also place stacked weights (100, 145, and 200 pounds) near the edge to simulate compression for different body types. Using a tape measure, we record the amount of sinkage under each load.
Cooling
Research shows that a cool sleeping environment helps people fall asleep faster and improves sleep quality. To assess cooling, our testers feel the surface of a mattress to see if it has a cool-to-the-touch cover. Next, we use a thermal gun to take the initial surface temperature of the mattress. Finally, we lie on the mattress for seven minutes, noting if we feel the bed heating up beneath us. After seven minutes of uninterrupted rest, we take the surface temperature again.
Average cooling is about a 6-7-degree increase, while exceptional cooling is below 5 degrees. If the number is any higher than the average range, the bed might not be the best match for hot sleepers.
What Else Is Important When Buying a Hotel Mattress?
Beyond brand reputation and mattress construction, several other factors can impact your hotel-quality sleep experience at home. When mattress shopping, consider the following factors to help you choose a new mattress that levels up the luxury while meeting your specific needs.
Body Weight and Preferred Sleeping Position
If you spend any time researching mattresses, you notice that firmness is consistently mentioned as one of the most critical factors in choosing a mattress. That said, your ideal firmness level depends heavily on your sleep style.
“When your mattress doesn’t match your sleep style, you’re setting yourself up for problems,” notes Dr. Dasgupta. “A bed that’s excessively firm or overly soft for the way you sleep creates pressure points that can develop into chronic discomfort. Without proper alignment, your spine suffers. Areas like your hips, shoulders, and lower back either sink in too far or don’t get adequate support. That’s how acute pain becomes a nightly occurrence.”
While everyone has different preferences, medium-firm mattresses typically serve as an excellent starting point since they accommodate a wide range of sleep positions.
Using our firmness scale of 1 to 10 (where 1 equals ultra-soft and 10 represents extra-firm), we’ve found that 6.5 hits the sweet spot. This firmness typically delivers a balance of support to maintain spinal alignment while providing sufficient cushioning for pressure relief that most sleepers appreciate.
Sleep Trial and Warranty
No matter how premium a hotel-like mattress appears on paper, there’s no guarantee it’ll be your perfect mattress match. When spending money on a high-end mattress, a generous sleep trial becomes invaluable protection for your purchase (especially through an online retailer).
Most trustworthy mattress companies provide risk-free trial periods ranging from 90 to 365 nights, allowing you plenty of time to truly test whether the bed complements your body and sleep habits.
Equally important is a robust warranty, typically lasting 10 years or more. An exhaustive warranty protects your investment by covering structural defects such as significant sagging, impression formation, or damaged coils.
However, you should always read the warranty details thoroughly before you buy. Understanding exactly what’s covered (and what’s not) and which actions might void your warranty will help you avoid surprises.
Best Hotel Mattress FAQs
How much does a hotel mattress cost?
If you’re buying a mattress directly through the hotel’s online shop, you’re likely going to spend upwards of $2,000. But if you shop through a mattress review site such as ours, you can usually get a quality hotel mattress for less. To give you some perspective, the mattresses on this range from $1,249 to $2,399 for a Queen-size before discounts.
What mattress type is most common in hotels?
While high-end hotels may use all-foam mattresses or traditional innersprings, the most common mattress type is a hybrid.
How do you make your mattress feel like a hotel mattress?
Purchasing one of the mattresses on this list is a great place to start. But if that’s outside of your budget, you can always outfit your bed with a mattress topper, which can add more firmness, softness, and support to your bed, depending on what you need. You can also invest in some higher-end bedding, such as the best cooling sheets or best memory foam pillow.
What are popular hotel mattress brands?
Some popular brands that make hotel-like mattresses include Saatva, Nectar, Serta, Stearns & Foster, and Westin.
