Written by Kenny Timper, Certified Sleep Science Coach
Kenny is a certified sleep science coach and staff writer at Mattress Clarity, where he reviews mattresses, bedding, and sleep accessories to help you skip the guesswork and enjoy a restful nightโs sleep. Heโs been featured as a sleep expert in publications such as Livingetc and U.S. News & World Report. As a natural tinkerer, he enjoys getting hands-on with each product to determine if it truly makes a difference in sleep quality. When heโs not testing out mattresses and other sleep products, you can find him hiking, biking, or trying out new local eats.
Itโs hard enough to find the best mattress for yourself. Itโs even more difficult to find the best mattress for couples. Each partner might have a different body type, preferred sleeping position, and favorite firmness level. Or maybe one of you is a light sleeper in search of good motion isolation, and the other, a hot sleeper who wants cooling features to help regulate temperature at night.
With so many variables to consider, shopping for a new mattress for two people can seem like an uphill climb. Thatโs why when putting together our roundup of the best mattresses for couples, we made sure to prioritize the features that matter most when sharing a bed: cooling ability, motion isolation, and responsiveness.
We test mattresses in person to see just how well they perform in these areas. In the past seven years, weโve tested more than 500 beds and helped more than 35,000 readers find their next mattress (and hopefully, peaceful sleep next to their significant others). With our hands-on experience, we can also tell you how it feels when two peopleโnot just oneโare trying to rest or adjust on a given bed.
Clarityโs Clear Winner
Our expert reviewers chose the Nectar Luxe as the best mattress for couples. During testing, we found that its lofty foam layers isolate motion extremely well.
Two bodies heat up faster than one, so finding a mattress that helps both partners stay comfortable throughout the night without overheating is crucial. If you tend to sleep hot or share the bed with someone who runs warmer, a mattress with good airflow and cooling technology will help regulate temperature and ensure a more restful, sweat-free sleep.
We grade cooling on a scale of 1 to 5, and mattresses that perform well on our surface-temperature tests get a 3.5 out of 5 or above. Every mattress on this list earned at least that score, with the majority scoring above 4.
If you find yourself disturbed by your partnerโs tossing and turning at night (or if you are the wiggler in question), then you need to find a mattress with good motion isolation. These mattresses minimize motion transfer to ensure that one partnerโs movements wonโt disturb the other. We grade this category on a scale of 1 to 5, and only included beds on this list if they earned at least a 4 in motion transfer or in responsiveness, which is also important to couples but is often considered motion transferโs opposite.
Responsive mattresses quickly adjust to your bodyโs movements, making them ideal for couples who enjoy a little more bounce in their bed. This responsiveness is great for combination sleepers because it makes it easier for them to switch between different sleeping positions. Plus, a responsive mattress is great for sex.
The ideal mattress for couples should help you and your other half stay cool, comfortable, and undisturbed by each otherโs movements. Many couples also prefer more responsive mattresses, as the additional bounce helps with more ahem physical activities.
For that reason, I prioritized models with superior cooling, motion isolation, and responsiveness while making this list.
That said, my fellow mattress testers and I also look at several other aspects of a bedโs performance, including durability, edge support, and more. We evaluate and score these factors using specialized technology as well as firsthand accounts of how a bed feels to testers with different body types.
Once we have all those scores, we calculate the bedโs overall score using a weighted formula. This overall score is a good indicator of a mattressโs general quality, and is always a number out of 5.
As we decide which mattresses to feature on any roundup, we only include beds with an overall score of 3.5 out of 5 or higher. Even if a mattress does certain things well, we wonโt point you towards it if it falls below this baseline.
I also want to acknowledge that your choice of mattress is only one part of an optimal shared sleep routine. According to Dr. Shelby Harris, a clinical psychologist who specializes in sleep medicine, regularly losing sleep when sharing a bed as a couple can be a health concern as well as a difficult emotional ordeal. The right mattress can certainly help, but having ongoing conversationsโwithout playing the blame gameโis also key.
We rate each mattress on a scale from 1 to 5 to reflect its overall quality. This number is comprised of individual scores from hands-on testing of materials, firmness, pressure relief, motion transfer, cooling, responsiveness, and more.

The Nectar Luxe is the brandโs most luxurious mattress. This bed has many cooling features that help dissipate body heat. Thanks to its soft feel, this mattress works well for many side sleepers. That said, this mattress isnโt supportive enough for many heavyweight people and stomach sleepers.
Testing Highlights
Cooling. This mattress is cool-to-the-touch when you first lay down, and it stays surprisingly cool despite its memory foam layers.
Pressure Relief. Youโll sink into the foam layers of the Nectar Luxe, which can allow for contouring around the hips and shoulders for great pressure relief in the side position.
Response. This mattress has a true memory foam feel, so it isnโt very responsive. This can make it somewhat difficult to change sleep positions efficiently.
Why the Nectar Luxe is Best for Motion Isolation
If youโre easily disturbed by your partnerโs movements at night, the Nectar Luxe might be the key to avoiding couples therapy. We tested this mattressโs motion isolation by placing a glass of water on the bed and seeing if it would spill over after rolling around while next to it. The glass remained nearly still while moving around on the bed. During our partner test, we did notice some motion transfer, but our testers said they didnโt think it would be enough to disturb their sleep entirely.
While the Nectar Luxeโs memory foam layers can make it difficult to change sleep positions efficiently, our chief medical product tester, Dr. Hannah Habeeb, DPT, says she recommends this bed for folks with hip and shoulder pain because the foam contours around key areas to better relieve pressure.
The Nectar Luxe also shines in cooling earning a 4.5/5 from our testers. After five minutes of resting on the mattress, its temperature rose by just over 6 degrees according to the thermal gun test. This result helped confirm that the Nectar Luxe effectively keeps body heat at bay, even when two partners share the bedspace.
All of the Nectar foam mattresses feature some sort of cooling prowess, but the Nectar Luxe is the most advanced foam option. Its topper contains more cooling fibers than the Nectar Classic and Nectar Premier. In my experience, the top of this mattress is truly cool-to-the-touch.

If you like the sound of the Helix Dusk, but want a more luxurious version, the Helix Dusk Luxe is the perfect upgrade. Why the Helix Dusk Luxe is a Good Hybrid Mattress for Couples
Couples in the market for a hybrid mattress should find what theyโre looking for in the Helix Dusk Luxe. This mattress performed very well across most of our essential categories for couples. Our testers gave the Dusk Luxe a perfect 5/5 for both cooling and responsiveness, along with at least a 4/5 in every other tested category. This mattress is the luxury upgrade of the standard Helix Dusk model and features enhanced lumbar support, a cooling cover, and premium pillow topper.
Hybrid mattresses typically struggle to contain movement to one side of the bed, but the Helix Dusk Luxe is the exception to that rule. Our testers said they could feel some motion transfer during the partners test, but they were surprised with how much motion the bed absorbed given its firmness. Another expert tester complimented the Dusk Luxeโs overall feel (rating the firmness at 8/10), as well as its edge support (which we rated at 4.6/5). She recommended it for older adults or people with mobility issues who might need some extra structure and springiness from the mattress when getting in and out of bed.
I felt really good on the edge of this mattress. I could lay almost halfway off with zero issues, and when my coworker moved around on the other side of the mattress, I did not feel his movements on my side of the bed.

Testing Highlights
Edge Support. Whether you tend to lay or sit on the edge of the bed, this mattress offers above-average support all the way around its perimeter.
Motion Isolation. The thick pillow top on the WinkBed absorbs some movement from the other side of the bed, but especially restless sleepers may still disturb their partners.

Why the WinkBed is the Best Innerspring Mattress for Couples
Thanks to its standout features that improve comfort and support, the WinkBed earned our title of best innerspring mattress for couples. This mattress has a zoned support system and medium-firm feel, meaning the mattress is firmer in the center and softer near the head and feet for a more ergonomic experience. Despite a thick pillow topper, back sleepers should feel strong enough support to relieve lumbar pressure.
Edge support is another strong point for the WinkBed, and it earns a 4.4/5 in that category. This advanced edge support is especially beneficial for couples, as you shouldnโt feel like youโre going to roll off the edge, thus allowing you and your partner to spread out and fully enjoy the mattressโs surface area. The WinkBed earned a solid 4/5 for cooling features, as well, and we could see reasonable drops in the surface temperature, even after lying on the mattress for seven minutes.
I felt the bouncy, responsive innerspring feel of the WinkBed thanks to its coils, and there was also a plush feel thanks to the pillow top. The zoning in this mattress made for great lumbar support when I slept on it, as well.

Testing Highlights
Cooling. One of our testers uses this bed at home, and says it is the first mattress that her partner has slept on without complaining about overheating.

Pressure Relief. This mattress delivers top-of-the-line contouring and support for sleepers who need pressure relief in the hips, shoulders, or lower back.
Why the Nolah Evolution is Good for Cooling
If keeping cool at night is priority number one for you and your partner, the Nolah Evolution is a mattress worth considering. With its advanced cooling cover and airflow-promoting coil system, the Nolah Evolution works hard to keep heat at bay. During testing, we measured the mattressโs temperature before lying down, and it started at a cool 73ยฐ F. After resting on it for five minutes, the temperature increased to 78.5ยฐ Fโjust over a 5-degree change. These results are super impressive and earn the bed a cooling rating of 4/5.
The Nolah Evolution also performs well in motion transfer, earning a perfect 5/5 during our trials. The soft foam layer on top absorbed the motion well, meaning our testers could feel slight shifts but werenโt disturbed by the movement. Despite the plush Euro top, the Nolah Evolutionโs bouncy coils create a balanced hybrid feel, too, that responds quickly to position changes.

Those who need pressure relief. The plush pillow top on this bed contours around your body to relieve pressure in key areas.
Who Might Not Like the Nolah Evolution
Budget shoppers. This mattress is a great value and made with high-quality materials, but the price tag reflects the performance, so itโs not for shoppers on a particularly tight budget.
Combination sleepers. The Nolah Evolution has a very plush pillow top, and combination sleepers may find it difficult to efficiently change positions.
Adjustable base users. This mattress is tall, and the construction doesnโt typically work well with an adjustable base.
Doctorโs Note
โI like this mattress for back sleepers. Iโm finding some nice sinkage and great support at my lumbar region. My hips arenโt tilting uncomfortably, and the space at my lower back is being completely filled in.โ โ Dr. Hannah Habeeb, DPT, Chief Medical Product Tester

The Saatva is a luxurious hybrid innerspring mattress that should be a great long-term investment. It is available in multiple firmness options, so it should work for the majority of sleeping positions, and its Luxury Firm model is one of the best mattresses for back sleepers. However, lightweight side sleepers and fans of memory foam should look elsewhere. Learn more in our video review.
Testing Highlights
Pressure Relief. The Saatva Classic promotes spinal alignment, and the zoned construction provides excellent support for the lower back.
Edge Support. Whether youโre lying down or sitting on the perimeter of the bed, this mattress has exceptional edge support with minimal compression.
Motion Isolation. The Saatva Classic scored poorly in motion isolation, but one of our testers, who sleeps on it at home, says she and her partner donโt disturb one another despite going to bed at vastly different times.
Why the Saatva Classic is the Best Luxury Mattress for Couples
The best luxury mattress doesnโt necessarily mean the most expensive option on the market. The Saatva Classic is pricier than some, but it offers great value at its price point. Thanks to its dual layers of pocketed coils, the Saatva offers excellent support with minimal sinkage, earning a 4.5/5 for pressure relief. Those innerspring coils also helped the Saatva Classic earn a 5/5 for response and bounciness. If you or your partner is a combination sleeper who frequently changes positions at night, the Saatva makes it easy to do so without feeling โstuckโ in the mattress. It also makes the Saatva a great mattress for sex.
A luxury mattress should also keep you cool and comfortable at night. The Saatva Classic does a good job of balancing both. Its plush, pressure-relieving 3-inch Euro pillow top has a breathable cover made of organic cotton to help regulate temperature. The innerspring coils should also help with airflow, further promoting a cooler sleep environment.
When back-sleeping on the Saatva mattress, I experienced an excellent balance of comfort and support. I could feel the sturdy coils providing solid support for my back and stomach, keeping my hips from sinking too deeply into the layers, which could lead to discomfort.

Testing Highlights
Response. The Bear Star Hybrid is very bouncy, allowing combination sleepers to switch positions without difficulty.
Edge Support. While the corners of this mattress did sink in a bit, the edges felt sturdy enough, overall, for everyday use.
Motion Isolation. The responsive feel of this mattress can be great for combination sleepers, but it comes at the cost of motion isolation. Our testers could feel each other moving around on their side of the mattress during our partner test, especially when they shifted positions.
Editorโs note: the Bear Star Hybrid has been recently discontinued. For a comparable alternative, we recommend the Bear Elite Hybrid.
Why the Bear Star Hybrid is Good for Combination Sleeping Couples
Couples who change sleep positions throughout the night need a mattress with a balanced feel and impressive support system, but most of all, it needs to be bouncy. The Bear Star Hybrid fits the bill here, scoring a perfect 5/5 for response while also featuring a layer of individually wrapped coils beneath foam that offers fantastic support and breathability.
Edge support is another strong point of this mattress, earning an impressive 4.5/5 rating. Our testers were impressed by how secure the edges of this mattress were, whether sitting or lying along the perimeter. Additionally, the Bear Star Hybrid earned a 4/5 for cooling thanks to the copper infusion in the top layer, and the Celliant technology in the coverโboth, of which, can help to regulate body temperature and improve circulation.
The Bear Star Hybrid offers a well-balanced foam feel, particularly for a mattress with memory foam. The copper-infused memory foam contours to the body gently, while the edge coil system adds a slight bounce to the overall feel.

Sleepers who overheat. Hot sleepers shouldnโt feel any excess heat building up while sleeping on this mattressโeven after a long period of timeโthanks to the advanced cooling features.
Combination sleepers. This bed is comfortable without sacrificing any of the bounce that makes it a good option for changing positions.
People with back pain. The lumbar support on this mattress is excellent, keeping the spine in neutral alignment and alleviating pressure.
Who Might Not Like the Bear Star Hybrid
Stomach sleepers. This bed is very firm, but there is a little too much sinkage for stomach sleepers to get the support they need around the pelvis.
People who want to sink. This mattress has a plush top, but it doesnโt cradle the body like traditional memory foam.
Some side sleepers. Strict side sleepers (particularly, those who weigh 130 lbs. or less) may find this mattress too firm, leading to excessive pressure at the hips and shoulders.
Doctorโs Note
โItโs very comfortable on my back and keeps my spine neutrally aligned. Iโm getting a lot of contouring at my lower back while also feeling supported. Itโs not too soft or too firmโitโs just right.โ โ Dr. Hannah Habeeb, DPT, Chief Medical Product Tester

Pressure Relief. The zoned support of this mattress can create a stronger sense of support along the center and lower back, which can help relieve pressure for side and back sleepers.
Cooling. Our testers raved about the Leesa Sapiraโs cool-to-the-touch feeling right away. The hybrid construction with its breathable coils also promotes airflow, which helps the bed maintain a comfortable temperature while sleeping.

The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is built with individually wrapped coils that provide responsive, zoned support. During testing, our testers said that they felt well-supported no matter how long they spent lying on their backs, and their spines remained in a healthy alignment, which is key for preventing back pain and joint issues.

What Our Tester Says
I loved this mattress on my back! It filled in the gap under my lumbar spine, but GENTLY, so it felt like a cloud had just snuck under my midsection. I felt so pleasantly and evenly lifted. Who Might Like the Leesa Sapira Chill
Couples with back pain. The zoned support in this mattress is firmer at the center and lower back, offering additional support to keep the spine in neutral alignment and relieve pressure.
Strict side sleepers. The pillow top on this mattress sinks just enough to cradle the shoulders and hips, resulting in pressure relief for those who prefer to sleep on their side.
People who wake up sweating. The Leesa Sapira Chill lives up to its name in the cooling category with great airflow and a cool-to-the-touch feel.
Who Might Not Like the Leesa Sapira Chill
Heavyweight sleepers. People 230 lbs. or more may feel themselves sinking a little too far in this bed and falling out of neutral alignment.
Those looking for a true medium-firm feel. This mattress is technically medium-firm, but our testers say it skews on the softer side in comparison to other hybrids.
Combination sleepers. Some of our testers had trouble changing positions, saying they sank too far into the pillow top.
Doctorโs Note
โThis mattress is a bit softer, so you do sink in a little. However, I donโt feel like Iโm bottoming out. For heavier sleepers, it may not keep you in a very neutral position, but for the general population, it should be really comfortable.โ โ Dr. Hannah Habeeb, DPT, Chief Medical Product Tester

The Titan Plus Core mattress works well for many heavyweight back and stomach sleepers. Itโs quite firm, coming in at 9/10 on our firmness scale. This means that many side sleepers wonโt get the pressure relief they need along their shoulders and hips.
Testing Highlights
Firmness. The Titan Plus Core scored a 7.5/10 on our firmness scale, which is plenty firm and should support heavier couples.
Motion Isolation. Despite a very bouncy surface and a firm feel, this mattress absorbed most of the exhibited movement during our partner test.
Cooling. The Titan Plus Coreโs cooling gel-infused cover helps with temperature regulation, and the coils provide ample airflow. That said, extra-hot sleepers may want to opt for the optional cooling cover.
Why the Titan Plus Core is Good for Heavy Couples
Different body types have different needs when it comes to finding the right mattress. Heavier folks (over 230 pounds) need a mattress that offers extra support and durability without compromising comfort. Of all the mattresses weโve tested, the Titan Plus Core is the best bed for heavy people.
Pressure relief is where the Titan Plus Core shines, earning a 4.3/5. The mattress features an impressive 8-inch layer of TitanCore coils, which are industrial-grade and provide excellent support (even for heavier individuals). These coils are designed to resist sagging over time, ensuring long-lasting durability. Beneath the coils, a 0.25-inch layer of high-density foam adds structure and further support. Our testers found that the Titan Plus Core supported them with ease and offered excellent spinal alignment, no matter the sleeping position. As such, we found this bed to be a great choice for couples who need extra firmness and reinforcement.
The Titan Plus Core felt very supportive whenever I rested on my back. In fact, some sleepers might find that this mattress feels too supportive in this position. Because itโs very firm, my hips didnโt sink in much at all. That said, I did experience plenty of spinal support.

The Birch Luxe Natural Mattress is a new mattress designed with luxury in mind. This is a luxury hybrid mattress perfect for fans of eco-friendly made mattresses.
Testing Highlights
Pressure Relief. The Birch Luxe offers strong support without much sinkage, but our heavyweight and average-weight testers said they felt great pressure relief in the back and side positions.
Firmness. This mattress is a medium-firm mattress that skews slightly firmer than the average, and our testers felt well-rounded support in all three sleep positions.
Cooling. The Birch Luxe didnโt heat up excessively for our testers, but it did trap more heat than expected given how latex is usually a more breathable material.
Why the Birch Luxe Natural is a Good Organic Mattress
The Birch Luxe is made entirely of organic and hypoallergenic materials that donโt contain harmful chemicals or volatile organic compounds. The Luxe is made from high-quality, organic materials that have a GREENGUARD Gold certification, meaning they meet strict standards for low emissions. The Birch Luxe scored a 7/10 on our firmness scale, which is slightly firmer than the average medium mattress we test.
Our testers said they felt accommodating support from the Birch Luxe, awarding a 4.3/5 for pressure relief. Our heavyweight tester reported the greatest sense of comfort while sleeping on his back. This mattress also earned a perfect 5/5 for responsiveness, with one tester saying it felt like she was lying on top of the mattress rather than sinking into it.

Stomach sleepers. This bed doesnโt sink much, which can provide good hip support for stomach sleepers.
Who Might Not Like the Birch Luxe Natural
Side sleepers. The lack of sinkage on this bed means thereโs no contouring around the hips and shoulders, which could create some unwanted pressure for side sleepers.
Budget shoppers. The Birch Luxe Natural is a premium upgrade from the brandโs base model and the price tag reflects the organic, eco-friendly materials used in construction.
Lovers of memory foam. This mattress is bouncy and responsive, but there is little to no cradling from the comfort layers. People who are used to memory foam may not feel comfortable enough with the Birch Luxe Natural.
Doctorโs Note
โI like this position. My spine feels aligned neutrally. Itโs not letting me sink in too much, but Iโm still getting good contouring at my hips and lower back. The Birch Luxe Natural has a 4.2/5-star rating with almost 900 reviews online. Most of the customers mention the eco-friendly materials as the primary reason they bought this mattress, but also praise the firm feel and strong support. Some negative reviewers mention sagging over time and question the long-term durability of the latex material.
While the mattresses listed above are my top picks for couples based on specific needs, there are other great options worth considering. These alternate mattresses offer unique benefits that may appeal to different personal preferences or budgets, but after thorough testing, I found the selections on this list to be the most well-rounded. However, if youโre curious about some other solid choices, here are a few worth mentioning.
Saatva Rx โ The Saatva Rx is a great bed for couples looking for a luxury mattress that works well for back pain, but it comes with a hefty price tag (over $3,000 for a queen-size mattress). I chose its less-expensive-but-still-luxurious counterpart, the Saatva Classic, because I wanted to give couples the best value for their money. However, if the Saatva Rx is well within your budget, I think you will be thoroughly impressed with it.
Nectar Classic โ The Nectar Classic is the brandโs flagship mattress and a popular all-foam bed. Given its price and performance, itโs easy to see why. The Nectar Classic scored high in motion transfer and durability; however, I didnโt include it on my list because of its average performance in the cooling and response categories. The Nectar Luxe does it all and frequently goes on sale for a reasonable price, which is why I chose it over the classic model for this list.
How We Tested the Best Mattresses for Couples
A mattress that balances you and your partnerโs needs can improve your sleep quality and overall health. A 2020 study showed that sleeping next to a partner correlates with getting more REM sleep (and less fragmented REM sleep, too!). However, it also showed that sharing a bed resulted in more โlimb movementโโso youโll want the right bed for the job, whether it has great motion isolation or the right amount of responsiveness for shifting around.
We carefully test and review every mattress we get on our hands to help couples find the right balance of cooling, response, and motion transfer. Learn more about what my fellow mattress testers and I looked for when coming up with this list of best mattresses for couples below.
Research tells us that falling asleep is associated with a marked dip in body temperature, so cooling is a top priority for couples and hot sleepers alike. You and your partner will want a mattress that disperses body heat and promotes airflow. My colleagues and I examine a mattressโs materials to look for breathable covers, innerspring coils, and cooling gels. We also use a temperature gun to measure how much the mattress temperature increases after weโve lain on it for 7 minutes. This helps us determine how well the mattress regulates heat and keeps sleepers comfortable throughout the night.
Response
We measure response to determine how quickly a mattress adjusts to changes in sleeping position. A responsive mattress will allow you and your partner to move around freely and easily, while preventing you from feeling โstuck.โ Responsiveness is particularly important for combination sleepers (those who change positions frequently during the night). We test how well the mattress bounces back after pressure is applied, ensuring you can move freely without feeling trapped.
Motion Transfer
We test for motion transfer to determine how well the mattress absorbs movement and prevents it from moving across the bed. This is especially important for couples or light sleepers. One way we test this is by placing a glass of water on one side of the bed while the tester rolls and shifts positions on the opposite side. We observe whether the water spills or stays still, helping us gauge how well the mattress limits disturbances from movement. A mattress with good motion isolation will help both sleepers rest undisturbed, even if one person moves around or gets in and out of bed.
When we asked Dr. Raj Dasgupta why motion isolation matters for couples, he explained, โMotion isolation is key for couples because it reduces the disturbances caused by one partnerโs movements, helping the other sleep more soundly. This is particularly helpful for light sleepers, people who move around a lot during the night, and those who share their bed with kids or pets. A mattress with good motion isolation contributes to better overall sleep quality.โ
What Else Is Important When Buying a Mattress for Couples?
When mattress shopping for two, there are several factors beyond just comfort that can make or break your sleep experience. Itโs important to consider both individual and shared preferences to ensure both of you are happy with the final choice. Here are some key factors that should be on your radar when shopping for a mattress to share with a partner.
Price is often the first thing that comes to mind when shopping for a mattress, and for good reasonโit can have a huge impact on your options. Mattresses can range in price from a few hundred to several thousand dollars, and itโs easy to get lost in the variety.
When choosing a mattress for you and your partner, consider your budget and what youโre willing to spend for a high-quality sleep experience. If youโre on a limited budget, there are still excellent mattresses that can deliver comfort, support, and durability without spending too much. Always check for sales or discounts; many mattress companies offer seasonal promotions that could save you a significant amount of money.
Mattress Size
Mattress size is one of the most important factors when choosing a mattress for couples. While a queen-size mattress is typically the most common choice for couples, itโs crucial to assess how much space you both need to sleep comfortably. If both partners have different sleeping preferences, such as one being a restless sleeper and the other preferring to stay still, you may need a larger bed. A king-size mattress gives you more room to spread out, especially if you and your partner have different sleeping positions or body sizes.
Sleep Trial and Warranty
Sleep trials and warranties offer peace of mind when purchasing a mattress, especially for couples who may not be able to test the bed together before buying. A generous trial period allows you to test the mattress in your home, usually for anywhere from 90 days to a full year. This is helpful when shopping online, as it gives you and your partner the time to adjust to the mattress and see if it truly works for both of you.
Be sure to check the brandโs return policy as some brands may charge a fee for returns or have specific conditions like needing to sleep on the mattress for a minimum period before making a return.
Similarly, a warranty ensures that youโre covered if something goes wrong with the mattressโwhether itโs an issue with defects in materials or poor craftsmanship. Typically, youโll find a 10-year warranty, but pay attention to any exclusions or limitations on whatโs covered.
Best Mattress for Couples FAQs
What type of mattress is best for couples?
Every couple is going to have different needs. For example, if you and your partner tend to sleep hot, look for a hybrid mattress with pocketed coils to promote better airflow. Meanwhile, if you or your partner tends to be easily disturbed, then an all-foam mattress with excellent motion isolation is probably your best bet. If youโre looking for a good mattress for sex, then youโll want a mattress that is highly responsive, like a bouncy latex hybrid.
What is the best mattress for joint and back pain?
The WinkBed mattress is an excellent fit for sleepers who experience joint and back pain. It has zoned support, so it feels firmer in some places and softer in others. The result is a mattress that creates a great balance of comfort and support โ just what you need if you deal with pain.
Are foam mattresses good for couples?
High-density memory foam mattresses are particularly good at reducing motion transfer, so the higher the density of the foam, the better the mattress will be for this. Memory foam mattresses wouldnโt be our top pick in terms of cooling. Latex, hybrid, and innerspring mattresses work best for this. However, a lot of memory foam beds these days include open-celled foam or other ventilating properties. In terms of durability, there are plenty of memory foam mattresses on the market that prevent sagging. Foam mattresses have a bad reputation for durability, but by reading our reviews and selecting a mattress that includes high-density foundation foam, you should find a bed lasting at least seven years.
How often should a couple get a new mattress?
While thereโs no one-size-fits-all answer, a good rule of thumb is that couples should replace their mattress every six to eight years.
