Nectarโs flagship memory foam mattress is a fan favorite of ours at Mattress Clarity, offering the best of quality and comfort at an affordable price. The Nectar Classic Hybrid builds upon the memory foamโs sturdy blueprint with a supportive innerspring unit beneath the comfort layers. The result? A bed that combines this slow-moving, contouring feel that has you sinking deep into the surface of your mattress with the springy support of coils.
Weโve tested and reviewed over 500 mattresses during our seven years in operation. Mattress reviews like this one have helped more than 35,000 shoppers find their new favorite mattress. To review and rate this mattress, we relied upon our hands-on testing experience, as well as input from our expert sources: Dr. Hannah Habeeb (DPT), who also tested this mattress for orthopedic concerns, and Dr. Raj Dasgupta (MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM), our chief medical advisor.
Hereโs what we found out: If youโre a back sleeper, hot sleeper, or just hunting for a good deal, youโll love this plush-but-supportive hybrid.
The Nectar Classic Hybrid is an affordable hybird mattress that offers lots of pressure relief and supportive contouring. It works well for most side and back sleepers, because it helps cushion shoulders and hips. However, the Nectar mattress isnโt supportive enough for most stomach sleepers. Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress Performance: My Overall Rating
A great deal goes into our hands-on testing at Mattress Clarity. We evaluate everything about a bed, from whatโs inside it to the policies that come with it. Mattress performance depends on more than just comfort and support; we look at areas like cooling, bounce, and even favorability for couples.
The Nectar Classic Hybrid earned a number of impressive ratings, leading to its final overall score of 4.3 out of 5. I found the performance highlights for this mattress were in cooling (scoring 4.5/5), as well as pressure relief, motion isolation, and response, with the hybrid earning 4/5 ratings in each of these categories. The bed earned its lowest score in edge support at 3.8/5. Still, this well-rounded mattress should appeal to a range of sleepers, which weโll dive deeper into below.

I Recommend The Nectar Classic Hybrid Forโฆ
- Back sleepers โ I found that, despite its softer feel, the balance of support underneath makes this mattress best suited for this sleeper type.
- Hot sleepers โ The cooling cover on the Nectar Classic Hybrid gives it an edge for temperature regulation, which should keep folks from overheating.
- Memory foam fans โ Despite containing coils, this bed has a slow-moving, doughy feel thatโs reminiscent of traditional memory foam beds.

I Donโt Recommend The Nectar Classic Hybrid Forโฆ
- Stomach sleepers โ The Nectar Classic Hybrid is likely too soft for most stomach sleepers, especially those of a higher weight.
- Folks who like a lifted feel โ This bedโs slow-moving, swaddling feel wonโt work if you like to feel โon topโ of your mattress rather than sinking into it.

How Firm is the Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress?

At Mattress Clarity, we rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. Most mattresses fall around the industry standard medium-firm, which is about 6.5/10 on our scale. This is because medium-firm beds strike a balance between support and pressure relief, offering comfort and alignment in equal measure. The Nectar Classic Hybrid, however, came in at a point lower on our firmness scale, 5.5/10. This means it should have a softer feel, in between soft and medium, in my opinion.
The cushioning memory foam on top will have you sinking deep into this bed, while the coils below provide some support. Physical therapist Dr. Hannah Habeeb also tried out this mattress and thought its firmness was well-balanced. โYou donโt sink too far into it and feel relatively weightless,โ she said. โItโs just so cushiony, which feels great.โ

How Does the Nectar Classic Hybrid Feel for Different Body Types and Sleeping Positions?
The Nectar Classic has a softer feel thatโs best suited to sleepers who need sinkage and pressure relief. Therefore, the bed performed better for side and back sleepers, with the latter finding more comfort for all weight categories. I really enjoyed how the soft foams contoured to my lumbar area, filling in the gap there as I rested on my back.
Dr. Habeeb agreed, but also noted that this seemed like an outlier. โTypically, you want a firm mattress to properly support the spine, but this mattress offers a bit of softness that I really enjoy, while still offering enough support for my spine,โ she said. As an average-weight sleeper, I found the mattress just alright on my side, but I prefer a firmer bed.
I think most heavyweight sleepers will find this mattress too soft for their personal preference. However, our tester for this category only offered minor complaints, which weโll discuss further in our pressure relief results.
| Sleeper Weight | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
| Light (under 130 lbs) | Good | Excellent | Good |
| Average (130-230 lbs) | Excellent | Excellent | Unpleasant |
| Heavy (over 230 lbs) | Good | Good | Unpleasant |
Average-weight Tester โ 5โ5โ, 170 lbs
โSleeping on my back is actually really comfortable, which Iโm surprised about after thinking it was a bit too soft on my side. The foams on top really conform to my body, filling in the gap near my lower back, and relieving pressure where my shoulders and lower half really start to sink into the bed.โ โ Livvi DiCicco, Certified Sleep Science Coach
Lightweight Tester โ 5โ2โ, 122 lbs
โIโm still not sinking enough into the mattress, but sleeping on my back feels better than my side. My lower back and bottom feel supported.โ โ In-House Tester
Heavyweight Tester โ 6โ3โ, 235 lbs
โIt has a memory foam feel for a hybrid, but itโs a bit more supportive than that, which is important for heavy sleepers. For the most part, my hips are aligned, maybe slightly out of alignment, but not enough to affect the overall rating.โ โ Matt Schickling, Tester

Pressure Relief
Pressure relief is a common performance metric that gets thrown around a lot in the mattress industry, but what does it actually mean for you as a sleeper? โA pressure-relieving mattress will take strain off common pressure points, like the shoulders, hips, lower back, and joints,โ says our chief medical advisor, Dr. Raj Dasgupta. โTo achieve this, beds will feature contouring materials, like layers of memory foam, to cushion and cradle these areas.โ
To test pressure relief, testers representing each weight category lie on their back and side on the mattress. We also use a specialized mat on the surface of the bed, which records where pressure builds up along the testerโs body.

The mat produces pressure maps, color-coded outlines where green and blue represent low pressure, while yellow and red represent high pressure. We want to see more of the former, which means your body isnโt digging uncomfortably into the bedโs surface. The mat also records an overall pressure reading, which shows the average pressure relief distributed across the body, another metric to determine overall comfort. The average pressure reading for side sleepers was 14.94 psi (pounds per square inch), and the average for back sleeping was 12.4 psi, but this also will change depending on the sleeperโs body type.
We also factor our testersโ experiences into the final rating, noting their account of how comfortable they feel in each position. All of this yields the final pressure relief score out of 5. The Nectar Classic Hybrid earned a respectable 4/5 overall pressure relief rating. Letโs take a closer look at how it earned that score.
First, our lightweight tester rested on her side. She immediately noted that the bed felt a little too firm for her liking. โItโs not really contouring to my side,โ she said. โIโm feeling pressure in my hip and shoulder area.โ The pressure map recorded an average pressure of 13.16 psi, which is indeed high for her body type. She ultimately rated side-sleeping pressure relief at a 3/5.
On her back, she still found the bed too firm, but noted it was better than her side. โIโm still not sinking enough into this mattress, but my lower back and bottom feel supported,โ she said. Her average pressure was lower at 11.23 psi. Despite some minor issues, our in-house tester was still a fan of this mattress for lightweight back sleepers, giving it 5/5 for pressure relief when she was on her back.
Our average-weight tester was up next. She noticed the firmer support from the coils below as she lay on her side. โI typically donโt love sleeping on my side, but this feels pretty good,โ she said. โI donโt feel a lot of pressure with this mattress.โ Her PSI came in at 12.39, which is typical for her body type. Her pressure map results were mostly blue, save for a spot of orange on her calf. She rated side sleeping for average-weight sleepers at 4/5.
Switching to back sleeping, our average-weight tester noted that she felt โa little pressure on her lower back.โ Despite this, her pressure map results were some of the most impressive Iโve seen. The map was almost entirely blue, and her overall pressure came in at an extremely low 9.92. โOverall, my body feels aligned, and I would recommend this for a back sleeper,โ she added, giving pressure relief in this position a 4/5 score.
Finally, our heavyweight tester Matt Schickling stepped up to bat, first trying out the bed on his side. He immediately noted the bedโs memory foam feel, followed by an observation about how supportive the coils seemed. โIt feels well-aligning and supportive,โ he said. โFor the most part, my hips are aligned, maybe slightly out of alignment, but not enough to affect the overall rating.โ His map only showed yellow at his shoulder, which he noted felt a bit โbunchy.โ His average pressure came in at 16.18, which seems a bit high, but itโs closer to typical for most sleepers over 230 pounds.
โItโs about the same amount of support between side and back sleeping,โ Matt said as he switched over to his back. โIt has that nice memory foam feel on the top layers, but the coils make it more supportive.โ His average pressure came in quite low at 14.01, and his pressure map was mostly blue and green. There was some yellow around his head, but Matt did try this bed without a pillow, which should fix the pressure buildup here. He gave another 4/5 score for back-sleeping pressure relief, and recommended the bed for back sleepers of a similar body weight.
As a bonus, Dr. Habeeb corroborated our testerโs results and praised the bedโs balanced profile, which could offer benefits for pain relief. โFor those with back pain, I think the support and pressure-relieving aspect will be a great match,โ she said. If you like a softer bed, this could be one of the best mattresses for your back pain.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well a bed holds up when bearing weight. This can be useful for folks who sit on a bed to tie their shoes or do other mundane tasks. Itโs also a marker of durability, as the less sagging we find on the edges, the less likely the mattress is to sag overall with repeated use.

To test edge support, we place weight plates right along the side of the bed and measure how much the edge sinks. The Nectar Classic Hybrid performed pretty well during this test, dipping hardly at all even when multiple plates were stacked.
We also sit and lie down at the perimeter of the bed, gauging how secure and supported we feel in each position. Most hybrids tend to perform well in this category because of their coils. However, the Nectar Classic Hybridโs softer foam layers were more prone to sagging, which offset the support provided by the springs.

When I sat on the edge of the bed, I felt it dip significantly beneath my weight. I wouldnโt call it abysmal, but the closer I scooted toward the edge, the more it felt like I could slip. This may spell trouble for older adults or folks with mobility concerns who need a sturdy perimeter to get in and out of bed.
Lying down was a similar story. I noticed that the distension on my side and stomach was more noticeable where my elbows or hips dug into the bed. Back sleeping wasnโt horrible, but with these results, I wouldnโt recommend this bed to folks who like to sleep on the edge. I rated edge support at 3.8/5 overall.
Cooling
If youโre a hot sleeper like me, the last thing you want is a bed that traps heat. Memory foam is often notorious for this pitfall, but the Nectar Classic Hybrid features both coils and a cooling cover to combat this. The coils allow air to flow freely throughout the mattress, while the cooling cover regulates temperature at the surface.
To test cooling, we measure the surface temperature of the mattress using a thermal gun. We record the temperature in two instances: first, before anyone has gotten on the bed, and second, after a tester has napped on it for about 7 minutes. This allows us to get a feel for how much heat the bed holds onto, and ultimately informs our final score.

For the Nectar Classic Hybrid, I recorded an initial temperature of 66 degrees, which increased to 71.1 degrees after my lie-down. This 5.7-degree increase is significantly lower than our recorded average of 7.1 degrees and is ultimately a sign of quite good cooling.
I think the cover has a slightly cool-to-the-touch feel when you run your hand over it. Lying down in the bed, I never felt like I was overheating, even as I sank in. When I got up, the space where my body had been didnโt feel as warm as other beds Iโve tried. Based on this, I rated cooling for the Nectar Classic Hybrid at 4.5/5. I feel comfortable recommending this bed to hot sleepers who donโt want to give up the swaddling comfort of memory foam.
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation is what keeps you from feeling your partnerโs movements from the other side of the bed. A bed with cushy foam layers like the Nectar Classic Hybrid can absorb motion before it travels across the surface, which can disturb light sleepers trying to rest. To judge a bedโs ability to isolate motion, we implement two tests.
The first is the water glass test. We place a glass of water on one side of the bed while moving around on the other. We get in and out, roll around, and switch positions to mimic typical tossing and turning. The behavior of the water in the glass gives us a good idea of how much movement is felt on the other side of the mattress.

For the Nectar Classic Hybrid, I didnโt notice the water or glass moving very much when I got in and out of bed. The water only gently rippled. When I switched positions and rolled around, the disturbance was even less. I even got pretty aggressive, as if I were trying to knock the glass over, but to no avail.
In our second test, I had fellow tester Kenny Timper join me on the other side of the mattress. On my side, I lay completely still with a blindfold on, playing the sleeping partner. He performed the same song and dance, moving around as a restless co-sleeper would. I could feel his movements, but they werenโt enough to actually jostle me, which is my typical nightly experience when sharing my bed. I did notice him getting in and out of bed, but small movements like shifting or changing positions were mostly stifled.

With all this in mind, I rated motion isolation at 4/5. I think most couples should be satisfied with this level of motion absorption.
Response
Responsiveness in a mattress makes it easier to move around on the surface. Itโs a close cousin to bounce, but many responsive mattresses donโt necessarily have bounce. This is the case for the Nectar Classic Hybrid.

Although this hybrid features coils, the thick, cushy foams on top are thick enough to counteract them. When I switched positions on the surface of the bed, I could feel a bit of pushback from this doughy surface. It was most difficult to switch from my side to my back or stomach, when my elbows sort of โcaughtโ on the mattress, sinking in when I rolled over. Itโs still more responsive than an all-foam mattress, so I rated response at 4/5.
Most combination sleepers should be pleased with the ease of movement you can achieve on the Nectar Classic Hybrid. Just donโt expect to be launched across your mattress like youโre a part of the moon landing.
Sinkage: Moderate
Sinkage may sound like a negative aspect of a mattress, but depending on your preferences, it can be a positive. If you like to sink deeply into your mattress and feel hugged by its cushioning layers, you might prefer a bed with more sinkage. If youโre like me and canโt stand the feeling, you might like a mattress with less sinkage that leaves you feeling more aloft on the bedโs surface.

We record a bedโs sinkage by placing a weight on the surface and measuring how much the bed dips beneath it. For the Nectar Classic, we recorded a sinkage depth of 3.25โ, which weโd call moderate sinkage. This makes sense in light of the bedโs balanced hybrid feel, with the slow-moving foams on top and the coils below.
Bounce: Moderate
Combination sleepers and sexually active folks will be interested to know how bouncy a mattress is, as it makes repositioning for both activities easier and more seamless. Although I found the Nectar Classic Hybrid somewhat responsive, the primary feeling was still that of slow-moving foam. Therefore, I was curious to see how much bounce it offered.

To test this, we drop a medicine ball from six feet above the mattress and record how high the ball reaches off the bed. For this bed, the ball bounced 15โ off the bed. This is a little lower than our average bounce height of 17.89 inches. It still offers a modicum of responsiveness, but this isnโt the bounciest hybrid out there, thanks to its doughy foam feel at the surface.
Noise
Some beds with coils creak and squeak when you move around on them, which can be a pain for light sleepers. However, throughout testing the Nectar Classic Hybrid, the bed didnโt make a peep. The foams on top didnโt even release air. We think this mattress will remain silent for years to come, so our team gave it a 5/5 rating in this category.
Sex
A good mattress for sex will excel in three categories. First, itโll have a responsive surface that makes moving around on top easy during the main event. Second, it should have good edge support so you can make full use of the available surface area. And third, it should be relatively quiet, not to distract from the matter at hand.
The Nectar Classic Hybrid performed adequately in our response test, though I wouldnโt call it a bouncy bed. You should still be able to switch positions without too much effort. The edges of this mattress arenโt the best, though, so I wouldnโt rely on them while doing the deed. Thankfully, this bed is completely silent, so there will be no qualms there.
Averaging the ratings for each of these categories, this mattress earned an overall sex score of 4.3/5. I think it should get the job done just fine, but I wouldnโt call it one of the very best mattresses for sex.
Adjustable Base Compatibility
The Nectar Classic Hybrid is advertised as adjustable-base compatible, but to put that to the test, we had to give it a whirl on one in our studio. My colleague Sosha Lewis was responsible for determining how well this bed worked with a base. โIt conforms well,โ she said. โItโs one of my favorite beds on adjustable bases.โ
She did note that in TV mode (where you elevate the head so youโre basically seated upright in bed), the bed felt a bit too scrunched for her liking. In other configurations, there wasnโt as much scrunching to deter her. The results were better with two people in the bed, so we always recommend waiting to adjust until everyone is snuggled up and ready for bed.
Two-Hour Nap Test
Expert tester Marten Carlson had a lie-down on this mattress for about two hours to get a feel for how it would be to sleep long-term on it. Hereโs what he had to say:
โDuring one of my favorite tests, the two-hour nap, I felt good sleeping on my back. I also noticed mild pressure relief when I rolled to my side, without any uncomfortable bunching around my shoulders and hips. I didnโt overheat, nor did I wake up feeling too warm.โ
Nectar Classic Hybrid Customer Experience Scores
When buying a mattress online, your experience matters more since you canโt see the bed in-store. Letโs go over some freebies that come along with your purchase, as well as the unboxing experience, so you can get the most out of your shopping experience.
Trial Period
Nectar has one of the best sleep trial periods in the online mattress industry. Customers receive a full 365 nights, starting on the day of delivery, to test the Classic Hybrid and decide whether it truly is the bed of their dreams. This is the longest trial weโve seen, so we rated it at 5/5.
Nectar asks that you sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights before initiating a return, which can be done by emailing a customer service representative. There is no fee to return the mattress, which will be donated locally.
Warranty
Just like its trial period, Nectarโs warranty is generous. The brand stands behind its mattresses with a โForever Warranty,โ a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing or workmanship the entire time you own the mattress. This also earned another 5/5 score for warranty.
It canโt be transferred, and itโs specific about whatโs covered: visible indentations over 1.5โ, physical flaws that cause the foam to degrade, split, or crack, and defects in the cover. Nectar notes that using an insufficient foundation or base will void the warranty.
Nectar Classic Hybrid Construction
Now that weโve gone over how the bed will perform, letโs go over whatโs inside it.
Mattress Height & Weight
Like the original Nectar, the Classic Hybrid is 12โ tall. Thatโs pretty standard for mattresses these days, and you wonโt need deep-pocket sheets. The mattress can weigh anywhere from 62 pounds to 132 pounds, depending on size. A queen-size Nectar Classic Hybrid will weigh about 101 pounds.
Materials
As a hybrid, this mattress contains both foam layers and pocketed coils in its construction. The comfort layers on top are made of foam, while the supportive layer underneath is composed of springs.
Layers

The mattress has a soft, breathable cover woven with cooling fibers that are designed to wick away body heat and moisture. As you move up the Nectar lineup with the Nectar Premier or Nectar Luxe, more of these fibers are woven into the covers. In the Classic Hybrid, the cover is also finished with an antimicrobial coating.
Right under the cover is a layer made of memory foam that gives the mattress its pressure-relieving benefits and contouring feel. Then thereโs a 3โ support layer that serves as a transition to the coils below and helps sleepers maintain the proper spinal alignment.
The bulk of the support in the Classic Hybrid comes from the coil layer, which is made up of 8โ coils that are individually wrapped in fabric pockets to move independently. Around the perimeter, two rows of coils are thicker to beef up edge support. The coil layer promotes airflow and helps reduce motion transfer.
At the base of the mattress is a thin layer of support foam that further isolates motion and stabilizes the layers above. A lower cover keeps all of the layers in place.
How To Try and Buy The Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress
You can try the Nectar Hybrid mattress in some brick-and-mortar stores around the countryโjust use the siteโs store locator to find a local location near you. But if you donโt feel like dealing with pushy salespeople, you can also order the mattress online. The bed will arrive at your door compressed in a box for easy setup. After a few hours of deflating, your bed will be ready for use.
All Nectar mattresses come with a 365-night trial, which gives you a full year to decide whether or not this mattress is for you. If at any point you decide the bed isnโt working, you can initiate a return for a full refundโso long as youโve tried the mattress out for 30 days and the year-long period hasnโt expired.

Nectar Classic Hybrid vs Nectar Classic Memory Foam
The Nectar Classic is an all-foam version of the Classic Hybrid. Instead of a coil layer, you get 8โ of base foam, but it has a firmer overall feel that makes it better suited to stomach sleepers and back sleepers. You just donโt sink in quite as much as you do on the Classic Hybrid.
On the other hand, the Classic Hybridโs coil layer boosts its response. If you want a somewhat bouncier mattress, the Classic Hybrid is the better choice. But the hybrid model costs a smidge more than its all-foam counterpart.

Nectar Classic Hybrid vs DreamCloud Mattress
If youโre looking outside the brand, the DreamCloud is a comparable hybrid to the Nectar Classic Hybrid. Both have coils, but Nectarโs model has more of a memory foam feel, while the DreamCloud has a sturdier pillow top. The DreamCloud is also the firmer pick, so it works well for stomach sleepers. The Nectar Classic Hybrid is the better choice for back sleepers.
With discounts, the DreamCloud costs less than the Classic Hybrid. But both of these beds are on the affordable side, and Iโd call them both great bangs for your buck.

Nectar Classic Hybrid vs Saatva Classic
If youโre not balling on a budget, you might want to upgrade to a luxury option like the Saatva Classic. This bed is a classic innerspring-style mattress with two coil layers and a plush pillow top. It comes in multiple firmness options, but the mid-range Luxury Firm should still be firmer than the Nectar Classic Hybrid. The Saatva has plenty of bounce for combination sleepers, while the Nectar will do better for couples wanting motion absorption.
As a higher-end option, the Saatva Classic costs quite a bit more than the Nectar Classic Hybrid. However, the Saatva Classic also comes with free white glove delivery, which can eliminate some of the hassle with bed-in-a-box mattresses.

Nectar Classic Hybrid Mattress FAQs
Is the Nectar Classic Hybrid a good mattress?
The Nectar Classic Hybrid is a good mattress, but whether or not itโs right for you depends on your needs. Itโs a great option for hot sleepers and back sleepers. But stomach sleepers, fans of firm mattresses, and those who like a super-bouncy feel should look elsewhere.
What are the downsides of a Nectar mattress?
The Nectar Classic Hybrid has a softer, doughier feel that may not work for all sleeper types. If you want a more typical hybrid feel with lift and bounce, itโs not for you. The edge support is also lacking on this mattress because of this softer feel, which means it may be difficult to sit or lie down on the edge without major sinkage.
How long will the Nectar Classic Hybrid last?
Most mattresses will last between five to ten years, but the Nectar Classic Hybrid is backed by a lifetime warranty. Testing out the mattress myself, I think the bed could last well beyond the typical 10-year lifespan. The only area that might be of concern is the memory foam on top, which could be prone to lasting indentation or premature sagging. Just be sure to rotate your mattress often to avoid this.
