Firmness and Feel Differences

Here at Mattress Clarity, we use a firmness scale that ranges from 1-10, with 6.5/10 representing medium-firm. The GhostBed mattress feels significantly firmer than the industry standard, coming in at 8/10. This makes the bed well-suited for most back and stomach sleepers.

The WinkBed mattress is available in many firmness options: Softer, Luxury Firm, Firmer, and Plus (which is designed for heavier folks). In this comparison, we’ll focus specifically on the Luxury Firm model. This option feels like a 7/10 on our firmness scale, so it offers a bit more pressure relief than the GhostBed.

Sleeping On the GhostBed and WinkBed Mattresses

Generally speaking, the GhostBed mattress works well for back and stomach sleepers. Because it’s a bit firmer than other mattresses on the market, it helps support the hips in these sleeping positions.

A man lies on his side.

On the WinkBed, most sleepers will feel comfortable in all three sleeping positions. However, this can differ depending on your body type. For example, heavier side sleepers might need more pressure relief and could benefit from the Softer model.

What Do The GhostBed And WinkBed Mattresses Feel Like?

The GhostBed mattress contains both latex foam and gel memory foam, which gives the bed a balanced feel. You’ll feel a touch of body contouring around your shoulders and hips, but the latex foam will prevent you from sinking too far into the mattress.

The WinkBed contains coils and foam, which gives it a more responsive feel. The plush pillow top cushions joints, while the innersprings make it easy for folks to move around on top of the bed.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Average weight back sleepers who weigh closer to 130 lb may find the GhostBed feels a little too firm. Back sleepers who weigh closer to 200 lb, however, should feel a good balance of comfort and support. Side sleepers in this weight category will most likely feel a bit of pain along pressure points and should consider getting a softer mattress.

The GhostBed really shines for average weight stomach sleepers, though. In this sleeping position, folks should maintain the correct spinal alignment and avoid developing lower back pain.

The WinkBed Luxury Firm mattress works well for most average weight back sleepers. If you’re an average weight side sleeper who prefers firmer beds, the Luxury Firm model could also be a good choice. Stomach sleepers who weigh closer to 130 lb will feel supported on the Luxury Firm model, but if you’re heavier than that, you may want to opt for the Firmer model.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

The GhostBed mattress works exceptionally well for back and stomach sleepers who weigh between 230 and 300 lb. It’s not a great choice for heavyweight side sleepers, though. If you weigh more than 300 lb, we recommend getting one of the best mattresses for heavy people.

The WinkBed Luxury Firm model works well for side sleepers who weigh between 230 and 300 lb. Back and stomach sleepers who weigh less than 300 lb will likely find the Firmer model to be a better choice, and those who weigh more than 300 lb should opt for the WinkBed Plus.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb

Most lightweight sleepers will find the GhostBed to be too firm, though it’s possible that some stomach sleepers in this category will get the amount of support they need.

The WinkBed Luxury Firm model works well for most lightweight people – no matter the sleeping position.

GhostBed

Layer Description
Cover The GhostBed mattress has a soft and silky cover that allows plenty of room for airflow.
Comfort Layer #1 The first comfort layer consists of 1.5” of aerated latex foam. This material feels naturally breathable and responsive.
Comfort Layer # 2 Next, you’ll find a 2” layer of gel memory foam. This material has a slow-moving feel, and the gel infusion helps pull heat away from the body.

WinkBed

Layer Description
Cover The WinkBed’s cover is made out of Tencel fabric, which feels soft and cool.

GhostBed And WinkBed Performance Differences

We won’t stop there! Take a look at each mattress’s performance features to determine which one is best for your specific needs.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Both mattresses have impressive cooling features and should work well for hot sleepers. However, the WinkBed has a slight advantage over the GhostBed because the coil system promotes airflow and breathability.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is an important element to consider if you share a bed with a partner. If your mattress doesn’t isolate motion well, you could wake up when your partner shifts sleeping positions during the night.

When it comes to a mattress for motion isolation, the win goes to GhostBed. Because it’s an all-foam bed, this mattress absorbs movements better than the WinkBed’s springy support layer.

Edge Support

You’ll also want to consider edge support if you share a bed with a loved one. Beds with poor edge support can cause couples to sleep closer to the center of the mattress.

A man sits on the edge of a mattress

Although both mattresses have great edge support, the WinkBed has a slight advantage. The Extra-Edge Support System makes the sides of the bed feel particularly stable and secure.

WinkBed - Edge Support

Durability

Both mattresses contain high-quality materials that should last for several years, but we expect the WinkBed to have a slightly longer lifespan. The Ghostbed will likely last about 7-9 years, while the WinkBed should last at least a decade.

It’s important to note, however, that these two beds should still last longer than the average bed. Most mattresses last about 5-7 years, so no matter which one you pick, you’ll have made a good investment.

Off-Gassing

When you unbox an online mattress, it’s common to smell a faint chemical odor. In the mattress industry, we call this “off-gassing,” and it occurred with both the GhostBed and the WinkBed. However, after 48 hours, both mattresses were free of any odor.

Noise

Neither mattress made noise when we tested them, though it’s possible the WinkBed’s coils could start to squeak as time goes on.

Sex

Couples looking for one of the best mattresses for sex typically want beds that feel bouncy and responsive. If this is a top priority for you, opt for the WinkBed. Its responsive coil system makes it easy for couples to move around and switch positions.

Company Policies

You can’t forget to read the fine print! Take a look at the company policies before pulling out your wallet.

Warranty Info

The GhostBed mattress is backed by a 20-year warranty.

The WinkBed mattress has an impressive lifetime warranty.

Sleep Trial

GhostBed offers a 101-night sleep trial period, while WinkBeds has a 120-night risk-free trial.

Return Policy

If you’re not a fan of either mattress you can return it and receive a full refund – just make sure to issue your return within the sleep trial period!
