Serta iComfort Hybrid 2019 Collection – What Buyers Need Know

We receive free products to review and participate in affiliate programs. See our disclosure page for more information.

Popular mattress company Serta recently re-designed their iComfort collection of beds. In addition to a whole new look, the mattresses feature new advanced cooling technology and come in both memory foam and hybrid versions.

Every iComfort Hybrid mattress features a combination of foams, including an exclusive gel memory foam and an innerspring support system with individually wrapped coils for maximum comfort.

One quick thing we do want to note is that the model names, pricing, and availability may vary depending on which authorized Serta retailer one is shopping at.

Here is everything potential buyers need to know about each of the new models in the Serta iComfort Hybrid 2018 Collection.

Who Makes Serta iComfort Mattresses?

Serta iComfort mattresses are made by Serta, a company that is currently one of the top mattress manufacturers in the United States. Serta debuted the Perfect Sleeper® mattress in 1931, then introduced the Serta® brand name two years later.

Serta is based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

What Types Of Beds/Frames Do They Work With?

A buyer’s bed frame choice may be influenced by the Serta warranty conditions.

According to the Serta website, when using Queen and King-size mattresses, owners must use a bed frame “with a center support that extends to the floor in order to not void the warranty.” Furthermore, “You may use a solid bed platform, however, it must have a center support that extends to the floor in order to not void the warranty.”

If customers purchase and use a Serta adjustable frame they need to ensure that they are using a mattress that was specifically designed to be used with an adjustable base.

Generally speaking, memory foam mattresses work best with a very solid foundation, like a box spring or solid bed frame.

If one has a bed frame with slats, make sure these slats are very close together. If the slats are too far apart from one another, the memory foam mattress may “sag” through these slats.

What Materials And Components Are Standard In The Hybrid Models?

Each mattress in the hybrid collection contains FireBlocker® Fiber, which the Serta website describes as “a proprietary blend of natural and synthetic fibers that help isolate the impact of a fire and limit its spread.”

Every model also contains TempActiv™ Gel Memory Foam, which is a temperature-regulating memory foam. They also feature a support layer of Serta® Hybrid Coil Support System Firm with Best Edge® Foam Encasement.

What Is TempActiv™ Gel Memory Foam?

Here is how Serta describes their temperature-regulating foam:

This gel memory foam is infused with millions of TempActivtemperature-regulating gel beads and additional gel for body support. This helps the mattress capture, store and ultimately dissipate heat away from the sleep surface while also helping to properly support every curve of your body.

Do They Come With A Box Spring Included?

This depends on where customers purchase their mattress. On the Serta website, customers can buy the mattresses alone, or they can also purchase a 9” standard foundation or a low profile 6” standard foundation. Foundation prices vary depending on the size of the mattress, and whether one wants a split foundation or not.

Who Might Want A Serta iComfort Hybrid Bed?

  • People interested in a hybrid mattress. Hybrid mattresses contain innerspring coils and memory foam, giving sleepers “the best of both worlds.”
  • People who sleep with a partner. There are several models which makes it easier to find the right comfort level for two people. In addition, the mix of memory foam and a coil system will help distribute weight and will most likely provide good motion isolation.
  • People who want temperature regulating technology. Every mattress contains TempActiv™ Gel Memory Foam, which consists of temperature-regulating gel beads and additional gel for body support. The coil system will also promote airflow within the mattress.

Who might not want a Serta iComfort Hybrid bed?

  • People on a budget. Mattresses start at $1,099 for a Queen. With so many mattresses, including hybrid mattresses, on the market today there is really something for everyone’s budget, including people who are looking for a bed under $1,000.
  • People who want a pure memory foam mattress/pure innerspring mattress. The hybrid model may not be ideal for people who want a mattress made entirely of memory foam or completely innerspring. While these models will differ in their layers, they will all highlight the features of both foam and innerspring mattresses.

Common Praise & Complaints

At the time this overview was published, the iComfort Hybrid line was very new. There are no reviews yet available on their website or elsewhere online, making it hard to know what people are saying about the beds quite yet.

Once we are able to learn more about how people like the mattress, we’ll put the top comments on here for what people like and didn’t like about the hybrid line.

Warranty Details

Each Serta mattress comes with a “law tag” listing a warranty code.

There are also requirements regarding bedframes.

On Queen and King-size mattresses, owners need a bed frame with a center support that extends to the floor in order to not void the warranty.

Owners may use a solid bed platform, however, it must have a center support that extends to the floor in order to not void the warranty. Those who have a Serta adjustable frame should make sure the mattress they put on it was designed to be used with an adjustable base.

Other things to note:

According to the website, “Stains, soiling, fluid penetration or other signs of abuse may invalidate the warranty.”
Never take the law tag off the mattress, as that may void the warranty also.
