GhostBed Natural Mattress Firmness and Feel

Here at Mattress Clarity, we spend a great deal of time examining each bed’s firmness level and feel. That way, we can help each person find the right bed for them! Read on to see whether the Ghostbed Natural will provide the right level of comfort and support for you.

How Firm is the GhostBed Natural?

On our firmness scale, the GhostBed Natural feels like a 6.5/10. This also happens to be the industry standard, or medium firm.
With its strong coils and responsive latex foam, the GhostBed Natural has a balanced feel that works for many different types of sleepers.

Sleeping On The GhostBed Natural

In general, the GhostBed Natural works best for back and side sleepers. However, some heavier people may sink through the comfort layers and develop pain along pressure points.

GhostBed Natural Side Sleeping

Most stomach sleepers will think the GhostBed Natural feels too soft. In this sleeping position, you’ll need a bed that feels especially firm and supportive. Otherwise, your hips could sink out of alignment and you could develop back pain.

What Does the GhostBed Natural Feel Like?

The GhostBed Natural has a classic innerspring feel. When you rest your head at the top of the mattress, you’ll feel its bouncy coils underneath you. Because of this, it’s super easy to move around on top of it.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

If you’re a back sleeper who weighs between 130 and 230lbs, the Ghostbed Natural should work well for you. This bed has a thick layer of wool at the top, which creates plenty of comfort in this sleeping position. The springy coils create ample support.

Average-weight side sleepers should also feel supported on this mattress. It’s important to note, though, that people who weigh closer to 230lbs may sink deeper into the top comfort layers. Because of this, they may develop slight shoulder and hip pain as time goes on.

Most stomach sleepers in this category will not get the proper support on the GhostBed Natural. Instead, they should look for one of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

Back sleepers who weigh over 230lbs should feel supported and comfy on the GhostBed Natural. The innersprings at the bottom should provide plenty of support for people with this body type.

Side sleepers in this category might sink deeper into the comfort layers, so it’s possible they could develop pain along pressure points.

Larger stomach sleepers will find this mattress feels too soft. People in this category will have better luck with one of the best mattresses for heavy people.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

Lightweight sleepers should feel comfortable while back and stomach sleeping. Some especially lightweight side sleepers, however, may need a mattress that provides more pressure relief. Because small people won’t compress the comfort layers very much, they could feel additional pain along shoulders and hips.

GhostBed Natural Mattress Construction

This organic mattress has many impressive features. To fully understand them, we’ll need to look closely at its construction.

The GhostBed Natural has a cover made out of organic cotton. In addition to feeling soft and luxurious, the cover is free of harmful chemicals and toxins.

Comfort Layers

In the top layer, you’ll find natural wool. This high-quality material helps disperse heat, and it acts as a natural fire barrier.

GhostBed Natural construction

Beneath this sits a 2” layer of natural Talalay latex foam. This naturally responsive material gently contours the body and provides nice pressure relief.

Support Layer

The Ghostbed Natural has a support layer made out of individually-wrapped and reinforced coils. Standing at 8” tall, these springy coils help give sleepers a weightless feeling.

Around the sides, GhostBed added their Spirited Edge™ support system. This makes the bed feel especially stable.

Finally, you’ll reach the Dunlop latex base layer. This material creates even more support and durability.

Mattress Height

The GhostBed Natural is 12” tall.

GhostBed Natural Mattress Performance

Now that we have the basic information out of the way, let’s take a moment to examine the GhostBed Natural’s performance features. Keep reading to learn more about its motion isolation, edge support, durability, off-gassing, and more.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Memory foam mattresses tend to trap heat, but latex foam feels naturally breathable. But that isn’t the only cooling feature you’ll find in the GhostBed Natural. This mattress also has a layer of wool, which helps disperse body heat. Plus, the coils at the bottom promote airflow. Overall, this mattress will work exceptionally well for hot sleepers.

Motion Transfer

If you share a bed with a partner, you’ll want to consider a bed’s motion transfer. If you’re resting on one side of the bed and your partner shifts sleeping positions during the night, will you feel them from your side of the bed?

Because of its springs, the GhostBed Natural doesn’t isolate motion very well. You’re likely to feel your partner’s movements if they toss and turn in the night.

However, one easy way to remedy this is to purchase the split king mattress with the adjustable base. This way, you can rest on your own mattress and find the best adjustable bed positions for you.

Edge Support

The GhostBed Natural has an impressive support coil system, so you should feel quite secure when sitting or resting near the edge of the bed.

GhostBed Natural edge support

Because it’s made with high-quality Talalay latex and individually-wrapped coils, the GhostBed Natural should have a long lifespan. It’s backed by a 25-year warranty, so it should last for many years to come.

When you open a bed-in-a-box mattress, it’s common to notice a slight chemical smell. In the mattress industry, we call this off-gassing. It’s completely normal, and it typically fades within 24-48 hours.

The GhostBed Natural, thankfully, doesn’t emit any chemical odors. That’s because it’s made entirely of eco-friendly materials! Plus, this bed expands quickly. You can rest on this innerspring mattress right away.

We didn’t notice any noise when testing the GhostBed Natural. It’s possible the coils could squeak over time, we we don’t anticipate this turning into a major issue.

Couples searching for the best mattress for sex typically want a bed that’s bouncy and easy to move around on, and that’s exactly what you’ll find in the GhostBed Natural. This bed has springy coils at the bottom, so you won’t feel “stuck” inside it when you switch positions.

Common GhostBed Natural Mattress Complaints

Most people love their GhostBed Natural mattress, but we occasionally find some negative feedback. Some sleepers didn’t like the mattress’ bouncy feel. Unlike the GhostBed Luxe, this mattress has strong coils at the bottom. This, paired with the responsive latex foam, creates a springy feel.

Many stomach sleepers also complained about the GhostBed Natural’s support. This mattress feels medium firm, so it won’t work well for most stomach sleepers. If this is your preferred sleeping position, take a look at our list of the best firm mattresses.

How Does The GhostBed Natural Compare To Other Mattresses?

When shopping for a new mattress, it’s always smart to weigh your options. Let’s see how the GhostBed Natural compares to other popular online mattresses.

If you need more information, check out our GhostBed mattress comparisons page.

GhostBed Natural Vs. GhostBed Flex

While both beds have coils and foam, they have many differences. Most notably, the GhostBed Natural contains organic and eco-friendly materials. Instead of a latex layer, the GhostBed Flex has contouring memory foam. It has a plush quilted cover and cooling technology.

GhostBed Flex

Both beds have advanced edge support systems, so they work well for couples. However, the GhostBed Flex has better motion isolation. Because of this, we named it one of the best mattresses for couples.

These two mattresses have similar price points, and they both have a medium firmness level. Ultimately, the choice boils down to what kind of mattress you prefer. If you value organic materials, order the GhostBed Natural. If you prefer a plush memory foam feel, opt for the GhostBed Flex.

GhostBed Natural Vs. Avocado

If you’re looking for an eco-friendly bed, chances are you’ll research the GhostBed Natural and Avocado Green mattress. These popular models have several similarities, but they aren’t exactly the same.

The side of the Avocado mattress.

These two mattresses have similar layouts. They both have organic cotton covers, natural wool layers, and latex foam. They both have a classic medium firm feel, but the Avocado gives customers the option to add a pillow top. With the additional plushness on top, sleepers will get more pressure relief along joints. Avocado also has a unique zoned support system, which helps people maintain the proper spinal alignment in many different sleeping positions.

These two mattresses differ slightly when it comes to feel. The Avocado has a bit more responsiveness to it, while the GhostBed feels bouncier. Also, the Avocado costs a little bit more than the GhostBed Natural.

Who Should Get The GhostBed Natural

  • Lightweight sleepers
  • Those who want to save some money
