There are lots of high-tech mattresses out there, but sometimes you can’t beat tradition. The WinkBed mattress has a classic construction with coils and a tufted pillow top. It’s the same kind of mattress you may find at a luxury hotel, and because it’s available in three firmness levels, it works for a variety of people.
I personally tested the Luxury Fim model of the WinkBed mattress and put it through several tests to assess its support, responsiveness, cooling, motion transfer, and more. Keep reading my unbiased WinkBed mattress review to learn whether it will meet all of your sleep needs.

I recommend the WinkBed for…
- Fans of a traditional, bouncy feel. The WinkBed scored high in my responsiveness test, which means it’s very easy to move around on top of the mattress. You shouldn’t feel “stuck inside” the layers.
- People with back pain. The WinkBed mattress has zoned support, which means it feels firmer toward the center of the mattress and softer near the head and foot. This design is meant to help people maintain the correct spine alignment throughout the night, which can help alleviate back pain. Due to the support of the Winkbed Mattress, this is a good candidate for one of the best mattresses for back pain.
- Hot sleepers. In fact, this is one of the best cooling mattresses on the market. After resting on it for five minutes, the mattress only increased in temperature by about six degrees F, which is better than most mattresses I’ve tested.
I don’t recommend the WinkBed for…
- People who prefer a slow-moving memory foam feel. Even though the pillow top is tufted with gel foam, you won’t feel a lot of body contouring on the WinkBed. Check out my list of the best memory foam mattresses if you’re looking for something that creates that “hug” sensation.
- Could be out of some people’s budgets. Because this is a luxurious and long-lasting mattress, it’s sold at a higher price. However, if you use my Mattress Clarity coupon, you can save $300.
- Couples concerned about motion transfer. The WinkBed is quite bouncy, and it doesn’t isolate motion very well. This means that couples may feel their partner moving around during the night.
WinkBed Mattress Test Performance: My Overall Thoughts
I mentioned the mattress tests earlier — now let’s examine the data. The WinkBed mattress earned an average performance rating of 4.5/5, with particularly high scores in edge support and durability.
Scroll over the circles below to learn more about each category, and keep reading to see how I performed each test.
WinkBed Mattress Performance
Support: 5/5
I rarely give out perfect scores, but for the WinkBed’s support rating, it was absolutely warranted. I’m a bigger guy (6’7” tall and 270 lbs), and when I rested on my back, I felt my spine relax into a neutral alignment. This is unusual for me — oftentimes, my back cranes out of alignment and causes joint pain.
Plus, the WinkBed has zoned support. This means it’s firmer toward the center and softer near the head and foot. Many beds have zoned support, but it’s rare that I can actually feel the different firmness levels in the mattress like I did on the WinkBed.
Edge Support: 5/5
Perhaps not surprisingly, the WinkBed also has excellent edge support. When I sat along the side of the bed, the edge only sagged 3”. For reference, many mattresses sink 4” – 5” when I sit along the sides.
If you share a bed with a partner, this advanced edge support could be beneficial. Because you won’t feel like you’ll roll off the side of the mattress, you and your partner can spread out and really enjoy the full surface area of the mattress.
Cooling: 4/5
You might wonder how I test cooling. Well, I have a handy heat gun that helps me out.
First, I get the room temperature of the mattress. Then, I rest on top of the bed for about five minutes. After my brief snooze, I measure the temperature again.
The WinkBed went from 71.6 F to 78 F, for a temperature increase of 6.4 F. Many mattresses increase in temperature by as much as 10 degrees F, but I’ve also tested mattresses that only have a temperature increase of 3 degrees F. Because of this, I couldn’t give the WinkBed a perfect score, but it still earned a high ranking of 4/5. While the WinkBed is a great cooling mattress, other factors might not work for your needs. If you’re considering other options check out our best mattress for hot sleepers to find the coolest nights sleep.
Motion Transfer: 3.5/5
The WinkBed didn’t perform well in my motion transfer tests, which may not be surprising considering its bouncy and responsive feel. If you share a bed with a partner or a pet, you may feel some movement come over to your side of the bed.
To assess the WinkBed’s motion isolation, I placed a glass of water on top of the mattress. Then, I pressed into the pillow top around it and examined the movement of the water in the glass. I saw quite a bit of ripples in the water, which told me it doesn’t isolate motion well.
But I didn’t stop there. I also asked my coworker to test it out with me. I rested on one side of the mattress, while they moved around next to me. When they switched sleeping positions and got in and out of bed, I could feel a good deal of movement on my side of the bed.
That said, it still wasn’t the worst motion transfer I’ve ever experienced. The pillow top did a decent job at absorbing some motion. If you’re a light sleeper, you may want to consider checking out my list of the best mattresses for couples, though.
Response 4.5/5
Responsiveness refers to how bouncy a mattress feels. Mattresses with high responsiveness scores are easy to move around on and could be good options for people with limited mobility.
To test the WinkBed’s responsiveness, I pressed my hand into the pillow top and watched how quickly it snapped back into place. The coils helped the mattress come back into place quickly, but the gel foam in the pillow top created a little bit of that slow-moving feel. For this reason, I gave it a near-perfect score of 4.5/5.
Durability 4.5/5
I haven’t tested the WinkBed mattress for years, but based on its construction, I would wager it will last at least a decade. The WinkBed mattress has thick, strong coils in its core, so it shouldn’t sag as time goes on. Plus, it’s backed by a lifetime warranty, which tells me the company is confident the bed will last a long time.
WinkBed Mattress Company Policy Scores
Trial Period 5/5
The WinkBed mattress comes with a 120-night sleep trial period, which is longer than the industry standard of 100 nights. This gives you about four months to figure out whether this mattress is right for you.
It’s important to note that the company requests customers try out the mattress for at least 30 days before issuing a return, because it often takes a few weeks to get used to a new bed. If you still want to return the mattress after the first month, you can contact the WinkBeds customer service team and they will issue a full refund — as long as it’s still within the 120-night trial period.
Warranty 5/5
The WinkBed comes with a lifetime warranty. This means if your mattress is defective or starts to deteriorate, the company will repair or replace it for free. Some restrictions apply,
WinkBeds also has the “Any Reason” 50% off lifetime replacement option. This means that, even after your trial period ends, you can buy a new WinkBed mattress for half of its retail price. This is great for people who realize they want a firmer or softer mattress after the first four months.
WinkBed Mattress – Other Factors to Consider
I won’t stop there! Here are a few other things to think about when shopping for a new mattress.
Two-Hour Nap
Ah, my favorite part. For my nap test, I started out on my back. In this position, I felt really comfortable and supported. The bed’s zoned support makes the mattress feel firmer toward the center, and that helped keep my spine in a neutral alignment.
Then, I rolled over to my side. I felt okay at first, but after about 20 minutes I felt my shoulder sink into the pillow top. This put some pressure on my joints, and I could tell it would cause pain if I slept like this all night.
On my stomach, I didn’t feel comfortable at all. I’m a bigger dude who is 6’7” tall and 270 lbs, so it’s no surprise that my hips sank into the mattress’s comfort layer. This put quite a bit of pressure on my lower back, which could cause pain in the long run.
I will say, however, that I was really pleased with the mattress’s cooling capabilities. After my two-hour nap, I didn’t feel hot or sweaty.
Off-gassing
It’s common for bed-in-a-box mattresses to emit a chemical smell after you open them. We call this off-gassing, and it was definitely evident when I unboxed the WinkBed. The smell dissipated after 48 hours, though. If you want to speed up the process, I recommend placing the bed in a well-ventilated room and placing a few fans near it.
Noise
I didn’t hear any annoying creaks or squeaks when I tested this mattress, but because it has coils, it could start to make noise as time goes on.
Sex
When I assess how good a mattress is for sex, I look back at its responsiveness score. If a bed is bouncy and easy to move around on, chances are, it’ll be good for sexual partners.
The WinkBed mattress nearly earned a perfect score for responsiveness, so this tells me it could be a great mattress for sexual partners.
Mattress Height
The WinkBed mattress is 14” tall, which is typical for an innerspring mattress.
Sleeping Position and Weight
Your sleeping position and weight plays a large role in whether a mattress will feel comfortable or not.
Overall, the WinkBed is great for average-weight sleepers (those who weigh between 130 and 230 lbs). This bed offers ample support for average-weight back sleepers, and the pillow top is plush enough to cushion average-weight side sleepers’ joints. It’s not quite supportive enough for average-weight stomach sleepers, though.
If you’re like me and you weigh more than 270 lbs, you may only feel comfortable while back sleeping on this mattress. When I slept on my side, I felt some significant pressure on my shoulders and hips. And the bed wasn’t firm enough to support my hips when I slept on my stomach.
Lightweight back sleepers should feel a nice balance of comfort and support on the WinkBed. It’s also a nice match for lightweight stomach sleepers. People who weigh less than 130 lbs won’t compress the top layer very much, so they should still get the hip support they need while stomach sleeping. That said, lightweight folks may feel some pressure when they rest on their sides. The WinkBed mattress isn’t quite plush enough to offer the body contouring many lightweight side sleepers need.

WinkBed Mattress Construction
Now, let’s take a closer look at the construction elements that make this mattress perform so well. Here’s what you’ll find in each layer.
Cover
The WinkBed has a Tencel cover that is very breathable and helps keep the surface of the mattress cool. The cover also helps wick away moisture and keep the bed dry.
Comfort Layer
The primary comfort layer consists of a Euro-style pillow top made with multiple layers of foam. There’s some gel infused into the foam, which helps with cooling.
Support Layer
The WinkBed’s main support layer is made with individually-wrapped coils. The coils are zoned to offer additional support in the center of the mattress.
How to Try and Buy the WinkBed Mattress
There are a few WinkBed showrooms across the country, but they’re not in every state. Fortunately, you can easily order a WinkBed mattress online and enjoy a 120-night sleep trial period.

How the WinkBed Compares
To assist your shopping, I’ve pitted the WinkBed against three of its biggest competitors: the Saatva Classic, DreamCloud, and Nolah Evolution. Here’s a look at how these beds compare in terms of construction, firmness, feel and price.
- Saatva Mattress – Great cooling features
- DreamCloud Original Mattress – Better for heavier bodies

WinkBed vs Saatva
Both the WinkBed and the Saatva mattresses are innerspring beds that feature plush layers on top and come in multiple firmness options. Given that these beds have similar constructions, it’s probably not surprising that they’re also similar in terms of firmness. I ranked both of the Luxury Firm mattresses around 7/10, or a touch firmer-than-average.
The WinkBed and Saatva are also similar when it comes to feel. These are both bouncy and responsive mattresses with a softer pillow top.
The Saatva mattress is never compressed into a box, and it comes with free white glove delivery. That means that you don’t have to wait for it to off-gas and expand. A delivery person will place it onto your bedframe and you can take a nap on it immediately.
Check out my Saatva mattress review for more information.
WinkBed vs DreamCloud
Like the WinkBed, the DreamCloud has coils in its support layer and a tufted pillow top in its comfort layer. The DreamCloud is a touch firmer than the WinkBed, however, so it could work better for many stomach sleepers.
As a heavier person, I felt more supported on the DreamCloud than I did on the WinkBed. Lighter people may prefer the WinkBed, though.
The WinkBed also performed better in terms of edge support and motion isolation, so it may be a better option for couples.
Take a look at my DreamCloud mattress review to learn more.
WinkBed vs Nolah Evolution
The Nolah Evolution is the brand’s most luxurious mattress. It has coils in its construction, like the WinkBed, but its comfort layers are thicker. In fact, the Nolah Evolution is 1” thicker than the WinkBed, so it may have a slightly longer lifespan.
Like the WinkBed, the Nolah Evolution has zoned support. It’s slightly softer than the WinkBed, though, coming in at 6.5/10. This could make it a better option for lightweight side sleepers. The Nolah Evolution is a bit pricier than the WinkBed, though.
