DLX Premier Hybrid Mattress Review (2025)

It can be hard to find a mattress that’s specifically suited to your needs and preferences. The wildly versatile DLX Premier Hybrid mattress solves this problem with a level of customization that makes it well-suited to a wide range of sleepers. Not only is it sold in three firmness options and two different heights, it’s available in split firmness, meaning each side is a different firmness level. Couples with differing opinions or single sleepers whose preferences shift nightly can have the best of both worlds with this bed.

Our team put this bed’s customizability to the test to ensure it lived up to the hype, drawing on input from our chief medical advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, as well as our own experience. In our testing we found that folks looking for customization, like couples or combination sleepers, as well as those who like the balanced hybrid feel, should be most interested in the DLX Premier Hybrid.

Over the seven years we’ve been in operation, we’ve tested more than 500 mattresses and sleep accessories, so we have a pretty good sense of who a mattress works best for. From our reviewing efforts, more than 35,000 shoppers have found a new mattress, with 5,919 of those in 2024 alone. If you’re ready to join these ranks, read on to see if the DLX Premier Hybrid is for you.

The DLX Premier Hybrid mattress offers multiple firmness options, including the ability to split it down the middle for couples with different preferences. We tested out the Medium model with its removable foam insert, and found its balanced feel worked great for back and side sleepers. Stomach sleepers and some folks over 230 pounds may want to stick to the firmer options offered by the brand.

DLX Premier Hybrid Mattress Performance: My Overall Rating

Our methodology includes a series of tests that help us evaluate a bed’s performance, construction, and overall compatibility with different types of sleepers. For each testing category, we note our experience with the mattress and score it out of five, and then take the average of all categories to assign a final score. When we tested the DLX Premier Hybrid, it earned at least a 4 in every category, leading to its final overall score of 4.6 out of 5.

The bed earned its highest score in response, a perfect 5/5, closely followed by customer experience, pressure relief, and cooling. As a whole, it’s a well-rounded mattress that stunned across the board. It should appeal most to back sleepers, combination sleepers, and couples.

I Recommend the DLX Premier Hybrid For…

  • Back sleepers – The DLX Premier Hybrid’s balanced, medium-firm feel works amazingly for back sleepers who need softness and support.
  • Couples – This bed scored high in motion isolation, cooling, and edge support, all of which should appeal to sleepers who share the bed.
  • Combination sleepers – The DLX Premier Hybrid has plenty of bounce, making it easy for combination sleepers to switch positions throughout the night.

I Don’t Recommend the DLX Premier Hybrid For…

  • Some heavy sleepers – Some sleepers over 230 pounds might sink too far into this medium-firm mattress to feel comfortably supported.
  • Some stomach sleepers – Some stomach sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds may find the DLX Premier Hybrid just a touch too soft to keep their hips elevated in this position.
  • Memory foam fans – You won’t sink into this bed like traditional all-foam beds, so look elsewhere if you want that “hugging” feel.

How Firm Is the DLX Premier Hybrid Mattress?

6.5/10 mattress firmness on a scale

The DLX Premier Hybrid mattress actually comes in multiple firmness levels (Soft, Medium, and Firm). You can even have two of these firmnesses in one mattress, split down the middle, if you share the bed with your partner. It’s a level of customization that’s almost unheard of, and it should be great for folks who are struggling to compromise.

We tested out the Medium mattress, which also came with a removable foam insert for further adjustability. We put the foam insert in the mattress before testing, and it made the bed just a tiny bit softer. Our testers rated it at a 6.5/10 on our firmness scale, which is right at medium-firm. For reference, 1 is the softest, and 10 is the firmest. A medium-firm mattress falls in the middle as one of the most versatile types, providing a balanced feel that can work for a variety of sleepers in terms of preferred position and body type.

How Well Did the DLX Premier Hybrid Perform?

The DLX Premier Hybrid breezed through our tests without much incident. If you’re curious as to how it stacks up against the competition, here’s how it compared to the average of all the mattresses we’ve tested:

How Does the DLX Premier Hybrid Feel for Different Body Types and Sleeping Positions?

Our Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta touts medium-firm mattresses as “the best option to achieve optimal support and pressure relief.” We definitely saw these results on the Medium model of the DLX Premier Hybrid, as it worked quite well for our testers. Generally, back sleepers saw the most comfort, followed by side sleepers, which should be true regardless of your body type. The bed should keep you aligned while still allowing the right parts to sink in and take the pressure off.

The sleepers who should have the most trouble on this mattress are stomach sleepers. Our lightweight tester loved it on her stomach, while our average-weight tester sensed she might experience hip pain if she used this mattress nightly, since she saw a bit of sinkage there. Stomach sleepers over 230 pounds are likely to find the mattress too soft, and may want to go with the Firm model of the DLX Premier Hybrid.

“My hips only sank marginally and while I could feel some spinal misalignment, it wasn’t what I would deem uncomfortable. No issues with this bed for a weekend in a guest room, but I wouldn’t want it full time if I were a stomach sleeper.” – Sosha Lewis, Certified Sleep Science Coach

Lightweight Tester – 5’5”, 125 lbs

“I feel like this is perfect for back sleeping. There is a lot of support that is lifting my hips in alignment with my shoulders, and I am not sinking in too far.” — Riley Otis, Certified Sleep Science Coach

DLX Premier Hybrid In-Depth Test Results

Pressure Relief

Overall Pressure Relief Score – 4.5

After a long day of work or play, you probably flop into bed wanting to take the pressure off—mentally and literally. A bed’s ability to relieve pressure directly correlates to your overall comfort. As your pressure points (like the hips, lower back, and shoulders) sink into the mattress when you lie down, you’ll want them to feel comfortably cradled without dipping in too far and meeting resistance. If your bed lacks pressure relief, it can lead to discomfort or pain in these sensitive areas.

We test pressure relief using a specialized mat, which we lay out on the surface of the bed before a tester hops into it. Using thermal imaging technology, the mat records how much pressure builds up on the sleeper’s body and creates a color-coded display. Green and blue are signs of low pressure, which we want to see, while red and yellow means higher pressure.

Riley Otis was our pressure relief tester for the DLX Hybrid mattress. She tried out the bed on both her side and back, and her results led to the bed’s overall pressure relief score of 4.5/5.

Riley really liked the mattress on her side, calling her spinal alignment “fantastic” overall. “There is no area that is sinking in too far, and my spine feels straight,” she said. She thought the quilted cover provided some cushioning and kept her from sinking too far. She gave it a 4.5/5 for pressure relief on her side, recommending it for light sleepers who prefer a firmer feel when side sleeping.

Sosha Lewis, our average-weight tester, also liked this mattress on her side. “The soft foam insert gave some excellent cushioning, and the springs and overall firmness provided excellent spinal alignment,” she explained. Side sleepers over 230 pounds should also benefit from this balanced feel, and the medium-firm feel might even feel softer as they sink deeper into the mattress and reap more of its pressure-relieving benefits.

In the back-sleeping position, Riley enjoyed this mattress just as much, if not more. Again, her hips felt in line with her shoulders. “I’m getting lumbar support and good cushioning in my lower back,” she noted. She called it “cozy,” and liked the feel of the mattress more the longer that she lay there. Her pressure results corroborated her opinion, only showing some green on her lower back. She did note that she was lying more on top of the mattress rather than sinking into it, but still gave the pressure relief in this position a perfect 5/5 score.

Sosha agreed with Riley’s assessment, calling it “great for back sleeping” overall. “The springs provided enough firmness to balance the soft foam,” she said. Most heavyweight back sleepers should also be able to find comfort in this position, though they may experience more sinkage than Sosha or Riley.

Edge Support

Overall Edge Support Score – 4

Edge support in a mattress refers to how well the sides of the bed bear weight when you sit or lie on them. It’s an important metric for folks who rely on the perimeter for getting in and out of bed, like older adults and those with mobility concerns. It can also be a good way to see how likely a mattress is to hold up over time, as if the edges sag easily, there’s a chance that the bed will sag faster in general.

A person sits on the edge of the DLX Premier Hybrid

Luckily, this shouldn’t be an issue on the DLX Premier Hybrid. Sosha found that the long edges of the mattress were very secure. As she got in and out of bed, she didn’t notice any resistance. “I felt like the bed gave me a nice place to land when I sat down but immediately ‘caught me,’” she explained. Laying down in each position didn’t feel precarious either, so you should be able to sleep at the edge of this bed without incident.

However, when Sosha tested out the foot of the bed, it was like night and day. There was a lot more sinkage when she sat down. “I didn’t worry about falling out, but I didn’t want to hang out there and put my shoes on or solve all the world’s problems,” she said.

a person measures the sinkage on the DLX Premier Hybrid with 4 weights
We also test edge support by measuring how much the edge sags when weights are placed near the side of the mattress.

It’s likely that this mattress is only reinforced along the lengthwise edges, something to keep in mind if you’re looking for a solid perimeter. Based on these results, Sosha knocked a point off and gave the bed an edge support score of 4/5.

Cooling

Overall Cooling Score – 4.5

The last thing you want is to wake up overheated and sweaty, so we also test a mattress’s cooling capability in the studio. We get technical with it, using a thermal gun to record the surface temperature of the bed; first before anyone’s touched it, then again after a tester rests on it for about seven minutes. How much the surface increases is a measure of how well the bed regulates temperature. Generally, we consider an increase of around 6 or 7 degrees to be a sign of good cooling.

For the DLX Premier Hybrid, Sosha recorded an initial temperature of 69.1 degrees, and then  74.5 degrees after her seven-minute catnap. This 5.4-degree increase is indicative of pretty great cooling, which is surprising when you consider that this bed doesn’t have any dedicated cooling technology.

Sosha didn’t feel like the mattress heated up as she lay there, but neither was the cover cool-to-the-touch. It created a neutral environment that wasn’t too hot or too cold. “I didn’t worry that I would overheat,” she said. The bed’s cooling score came out to a final score of 4.5/5, so it should be a great pick for hot sleepers

Motion Isolation

Overall Motion Isolation Score – 4.3

Motion isolation is something you might want to keep in mind if you share the bed with a restless partner. This metric refers to how much movement travels across the surface of a mattress, potentially disturbing whoever is resting on the other side. If you’re a light sleeper like me, someone breathing too deeply can be enough to disrupt your rest on a bed with poor motion isolation.

That’s why we test this category in two ways. First, we place a glass of water on one side of the mattress and have a tester move around on the other side. How the water and the glass behave tells us how much of our movements are being felt on the other side. Of course, this isn’t always foolproof, as Sosha found out.

The water glass tipped over in both these tests, but Sosha pushed back against these results. “I think it’s more because the top is fluffy and the glass wasn’t secure,” she said. “I also bumped the adjustable base that the mattress was on and it scooted.” The glass tipping over would be an automatic 1/5 score, but Sosha had better results in the partner test that influenced her final score.

For the second test, she had her fellow tester join her in the bed. While she lay on one side blindfolded, her testing partner moved around, mimicking typical movements of a sleeping partner (switching positions, getting in and out of bed, etc). In this test, Sosha noted that she “couldn’t feel anything,” contrary to the water glass results. “I am a very light sleeper and motion isolation is extremely important to me and I’d get this bed in a heartbeat for that feature,” she said, giving the bed an ultimate motion isolation score of 4.3/5.

Response

Overall Response Score – 5

If you’ve climbed around on a super dense memory foam mattress, you might’ve felt “stuck” as you tried to move. This is a result of a bed with low response. Responsiveness is important for ease of movement, which is key for combination sleepers who switch positions, sexually active folks, and people who just toss and turn a lot.

A person lays on their side on the DLX Premier Hybrid

Hybrid beds tend to perform better than foam beds in this category because of their coil unit. Sosha was concerned that the foam insert near the surface of the mattress would impede the bounciness of the springs below. However, when she moved around on the surface, she was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to do so. “I was able to turn from back to side to stomach and then from back to stomach and stomach to back with no problems at all,” she said. Sosha ultimately gave the bed a perfect 5/5 score in this category.

Sinkage: Moderate

Sinkage in a mattress can be appealing or a dealbreaker, depending on what type of sleeper you are. If you love a traditional memory foam feel, you might want a bed with super-deep sinkage. But if you hate feeling swaddled by your mattress, you might look for a bed with little-to-no sinkage for an “on-top” feel.

a person measures sinkage of the DLX Premier Hybrid with a kettlebell and rulers

We record sinkage by placing a 45-pound weight on top of the mattress and measuring the depth of sinkage with a ruler. For the DLX Premier Hybrid, we noted 3 inches of sinkage—a smidge below the average we’ve seen across all the beds we’ve tested (3.12 inches).

With fairly average sinkage, you should get a good cradle from your bed without a quicksand feel. Our testers noted that more often than not, they felt like they were resting on top of the bed, rather than in it.

Bounce: High

Bounce goes hand in hand with response, as it’s a great way to measure how easy it should be to move around and get in and out of bed. If you have kids (or you’re a child at heart), you might be curious to know how bouncy your bed is for playtime purposes. A bouncy bed is also great for combination sleepers and sexually active couples who need a springy surface.

We test bounce by dropping a medicine ball 6 feet above the bed and measuring how high it bounces off the surface with a yardstick. The DLX Premier Hybrid’s recorded bounce height was 29.5 inches, way more than the 18.5-inch average from all our mattress data and a sign of an exceptionally bouncy mattress.

Noise

Overall Noise Score – 5

No one wants a creaky bed waking them up as they move around. When we tested the DLX Premier Hybrid, we made sure to listen for any telltale squeaks or groans from the foam and coil layers. Sosha didn’t hear anything, and called it “really silent, like a thief in the night.” She noted that as a light sleeper, she wouldn’t be concerned about waking up from noise, and gave the bed another perfect score for noise.

Sex

Overall Sex Score – 4.8

When judging whether or not a mattress is great for sex, we take a look at how we scored the mattress in the response, edge support, and noise categories. Response is important for ease of movement, edge support so you can make full use of the bed’s surface, and noise so that nothing distracts from the matter at hand.

The DLX Premier Hybrid scored high in all of these categories. It has plenty of bounce, strong edges, and doesn’t make a peep. Averaging how it performed in these areas, the sex score came out to 4.8/5, meaning it should be one of the best mattresses for sex

Adjustable Base Compatibility

When a mattress is advertised as adjustable-base compatible, we put the claim to the test in our studio. When we tested the DLX Premier Hybrid on an adjustable base, we had only minor aesthetic concerns. There wasn’t too much gapping between the center of the bed and the base, but when Sosha moved the head of the mattress into the upright position, the foot of the bed hung over the edge of the base. All of this is fairly normal in our experience and should be lessened with more weight on the bed—so always wait to adjust the position of your base until after you and your partner are in bed.

DLX Premier Hybrid Customer Experience Scores

When you purchase a mattress online, you should get more than just the bed. The top brands offer sleep trials, warranties, delivery perks, etc. to sweeten the deal. Here’s what you can expect when you order a DLX Premier Hybrid.

Trial Period

Overall Trial Period Score – 4.5

This mattress comes with a 120-night sleep trial. Since trials can be anywhere from one month to one year, we thought this was a fairly solid timeframe for you to get used to your mattress and commit to a final purchase. So, we gave the trial period a 4.5/5 score.

Just note that you’ll have to donate the opened mattress to a local charity to receive a refund, rather than the brand picking up the bed and handling it on their end. Provide proof of doing so when submitting your refund request to DLX.

Warranty

Overall Warranty Score – 5

The DLX Premier Hybrid is backed by the brand’s generous lifetime warranty. This warranty fully covers replacement and repair for the first 10 years of your bed’s use. After that, it’ll be at a prorated rate. Since this is as good as it gets, we rated the brand’s warranty at a 5/5. The warranty should long outlast the typical 10- to 15-year lifespan of a typical mattress.

Unboxing

This mattress will arrive compressed in a box, just as it did to our studio. Our testers Sosha and Riley took care of the unboxing process. They found it very easy to get the bed out of the box and unwrapped, with one person able to do it without issue.

The mattress started to inflate as soon as the wrap around it was cut. Our testers commented that it seemed ready to sleep on within a few minutes (though we always recommend letting your mattress rest and expand for a bit before taking it for a spin). When it came to inserting the added foam layer, they didn’t encounter any problems, either. They simply unzipped the cover and inserted it into its proper place within the bed.

Off-gassing

When beds are shipped straight from the factory, there’s a chance you might encounter something called off-gassing. Off-gassing refers to the chemical scent that comes along with a vacuum-sealed product. It can be a pain for folks with sensitive noses looking to dive straight into their new bed.

Thankfully, the DLX Hybrid wasn’t too bad in this regard. Our tester Riley noticed there was a “new car smell” to the mattress, but it was only discernible if you shoved your face into the surface. This should dissipate after a few hours and shouldn’t be noticeable with sheets.

DLX Premier Hybrid Construction

Now that we’ve gone over how the bed feels and performs, we’ll go over what’s inside it.

Mattress Height

This mattress is available in 12-inch and 14-inch options.

Materials

As a hybrid, this mattress features a mix of both foam and coils. It’s also made entirely in the USA in the brand’s New York factory.

Layers

A person shows the layers of the DLX Premier Hybrid

The DLX Premier Hybrid has a total of eight different layers, including its cover. The thickness of each layer changes depending on which firmness level you choose, including the split-firmness option.

The cover is made up of a soft, flexible fabric that should provide a comfortable sleep surface. The pillow top is filled with viscose fiber for added softness.

DLX Premier Hybrid top layer before zipping
The blue foam layer shown here is removable for a flexible feel.

The first comfort layer is a dense, body-contouring foam that should provide tons of pressure relief. Next up is a layer of removable performance foam, which can be softer or firmer depending on which model you choose and contributes most to the bed’s overall cushioning or lifted feel. The final comfort layer is a layer of transitional foam, which eases into the coils below.

The main support layer is the innerspring system, a layer of fabric-pocketed coils that move individually for pinpoint support and less motion transfer. Underneath, another layer of dense, firm foam acts as a supportive base. Finally, another fabric-covered fiber layer at the bottom of the mattress rounds out the bed’s construction.

How to Try and Buy The DLX Premier Hybrid Mattress

The DLX Premier Hybrid is available for purchase online on DLX’s site. The brand’s mattresses aren’t available in any brick-and-mortar stores, but you can take full advantage of the 120-night trial to get a feel for the mattress before committing to it.

DLX offers free shipping through FedEx in the contiguous United States, with fees for Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada. The mattress will ship within 7 to 14 days of purchase, and the company will contact you if there are any delays.

DLX Premier Hybrid vs. Saatva Classic

The Saatva Classic is one of our favorite options to recommend. Like the DLX Premier Hybrid, it’s made with a mix of foam and coils, but it has a more traditional innerspring feel to it. Both of these beds are great options for bounce, and they each come in multiple firmness options and heights.

A woman resting on her stomach on the Saatva Classic
Livvi on the Saatva Classic

Neither of these beds will have you sinking in like a memory foam mattress, but the Saatva should provide even more supportive lift, making it the better option for folks over 230 pounds and those who sleep on their stomach. The DLX Premier is a touch softer, so it may be better suited to side sleepers. Both beds should work great for back sleepers seeking comfortable support.

Where the DLX has the edge over the Saatva is in motion isolation. Saatva’s two coil layers cause mega-bounce, but also mega motion transfer. This means the DLX should be the better option for couples. If you’re looking for rock-solid edges though, Saatva has some of the best I’ve ever encountered on a mattress.

All that said, the main difference comes down to the price. A queen-size DLX Premier Hybrid costs $1,699, while a Saatva Classic will run you $2,099. The Saatva definitely has a luxurious feel, so if you’re looking for a high-end bed, it’s worth every penny.

DLX Premier Hybrid vs. Nectar Classic Hybrid

Maybe you want a hybrid mattress that has more of a memory foam feel. Nectar’s Classic Hybrid is a hybrid take on the brand’s flagship all-foam mattress. Where the DLX Premier Hybrid has a more lifted feel, the Nectar will have you sinking into its surface. For reference, while the DLX came in at 6.5/10 on our firmness scale, I tested the Nectar and rated it at 5.5/10, so it skewed on the softer side.

A man sleeps on his side on the Nectar Classic Hybrid.
Marten on the Nectar Classic Hybrid

Both of these beds should be great for side and back sleepers looking for pressure relief. If you’re looking for more support, however, the DLX Premier might be the better option. This bed comes in multiple firmnesses, so you can go firmer if you’re a stomach sleeper, for example.

The DLX Hybrid also came out on top in edge support, so it should be a great pick for older adults or those with mobility concerns needing a sturdy perimeter to get in and out of bed. Both beds performed well in cooling, but I noted that the Nectar Classic Hybrid actually had a cool-to-the-touch feel at its surface.

When it comes down to price, the Nectar is going to be your more affordable option. It comes in at just $799 for a queen, which is half the price of the DLX Premier.

DLX Premier Hybrid vs. DLX Classic

DLX offers a range of mattresses aside from the Premier Hybrid, including its DLX Classic model, a more affordable hybrid option. While the DLX Classic comes in multiple firmness options, there isn’t the option of a split firmness or any adjustable layers inside the mattress. However, you can flip this mattress over as needed, which should add to the bed’s durability.

Two women lying next to one another on their backs on the DLX Classic Two-Sided Mattress
Testing the DLX Classic for motion isolation

The Medium models of these mattresses both fell close to the medium-firm mark; 7/10 for the Classic, and 6.5/10 for the Premier Hybrid. The Premier should have a more plush feel, but both beds should have that balance of softness and support associated with hybrid mattresses. Both should work great for back sleepers, while the Premier Hybrid will be better for side sleepers. Stomach sleepers may want to stay away from either or opt only for the firmest options.

The DLX Premier Hybrid got the edge over the Classic in the motion isolation category, so it should be the better choice for couples. Both beds scored perfect response scores, so they should appeal to combination sleepers and sexually active folks as well.

The main difference is the price. The Classic will only cost you about $999 for a queen, compared to the Premier Hybrid’s $1,699 price point. If you’re looking to save, pick the Classic. If you want more customization, choose the Premier Hybrid.
