Viscosoft Edge Hybrid Mattress Firmness and Feel

Before we get into all of the nitty gritty details, let’s take a moment to examine the mattress’s firmness and feel. This will help you better determine whether it will meet your sleep needs.

How Firm is the Viscosoft Edge Hybrid?

The Mattress Clarity firmness scale ranges from 1-10, with 6,5/10 indicating medium-firm. And that’s exactly what the Viscosoft Edge Hybrid feels like! If you’re searching for a bed that creates both comfort and support, this could be a good option.

Sleeping On The Viscosoft Edge Hybrid

Overall, the Viscosoft Edg/e Hybrid mattress works well for back and side sleepers. Thanks to its medium-firm feel, it offers plenty of lumbar support and pressure relief. Stomach sleepers will likely think this mattress feels too soft, though. If you rest in this sleeping position, you may want to take a look at our list of the best firm mattresses.

What Does the Viscosoft Edge Hybrid Feel Like?

Due to its hybrid construction, the Viscosoft Edge Hybrid mattress has a balanced feel. The top layers have a slow-moving quality, but the coils underneath make the mattress feel more responsive. It’s easy to move around on top of this mattress, and sleepers won’t feel like they’re “sinking” into it.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Folks who fall in this weight range should feel comfortable while back and side sleeping. The medium-firm feel supports the back and cushions pressure points. Stomach sleepers who weigh closer to 130 lb might get enough support on the Viscosoft Edge Hybrid, but folks who weigh more than that may feel their hips sinking out of their natural alignment.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

Heavyweight people might sink into the comfort layers a bit more than other people, so they will likely think this mattress feels slightly softer – about a 6/10 on our scale. Even so, the Viscosoft Edge Hybrid should offer plenty of support for back sleepers. When side sleeping, heavy people should feel even more pressure relief because their shoulders and hips will sink into the top comfort layers.

The Viscosoft Edge Hybrid mattress doesn’t suit heavyweight stomach sleepers. In this sleeping position, heavy people will likely feel their hips sinking out of alignment, which can create lower back pain. Check out our list of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers for better options.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb

Lightweight sleepers should feel supported and comfy in all three sleeping positions, but because they won’t compress the comfort layers much, they may think this mattress feels closer to a 7/10 on our firmness scale.

Viscosoft Edge Hybrid Mattress Construction

What sets this mattress apart? To find out, we’ll need to dissect the layers and see what’s inside.

Mattress Height

The Viscosoft Edge Hybrid mattress is 12.5” tall.

Cover

When the company says this mattress is cooling, they aren’t exaggerating. The cover is made out of phase change material, which is one of the most effective cooling fabrics on the market. And best of all – this cover is removable and machine-washable!

Comfort Layers

In the first comfort layer, you’ll find a 2” layer of serene memory foam. This foam feels particularly plush, which is great for side sleepers who need to ease pain on pressure points.

The construction of the Viscosoft Edge Hybrid mattress

Below that sits a layer of Viscosoft’s tranquility visco faux latex. This material feels slightly more responsive, which helps prevent sleepers from “sinking” inside the mattress.

Beneath this layer sits a thin hybrid transition layer which is designed to eliminate motion transfer.

Support Layer

The main support layer consists of 6” of pocketed springs. These individually-wrapped nine gauge coils allow room for airflow, which is beneficial for hot sleepers.

Beneath this, you’ll find a 1.5” layer of high-density foundation foam. Because it’s so stable, you won’t need a box spring with this mattress.

Viscosoft Edge Hybrid Mattress Performance

Firmness, feel, and construction aren’t the only things we should consider. Let’s take a look at the Viscosoft Edge’s performance features.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

The Viscosoft Edge Hybrid is a great pick for hot sleepers. The cooling cover helps lower body temperature, and the coils make the bed feel particularly breathable. Even though this bed contains quite a bit of foam, which is known to trap heat, we don’t expect this mattress to make sleepers feel hot at night.

Motion Transfer

Most hybrid mattresses don’t isolate motion well, which can cause issues for couples who sleep in the same bed. Fortunately, the Viscosoft Edge hybrid has a transition layer which helps cut down on some of that movement.

Sensitive sleepers might notice their partner’s movements if they move around at night, but for most folks, the Viscosoft Edge Hybrid’s motion isolation is quite effective.

Edge Support

This mattress doesn’t have the best edge support we’ve ever tried, but overall, it’s not bad. You may not want to sleep close to the edge of the bed, but you won’t feel like you’ll completely roll off the side of the mattress.

Durability

The Viscosoft Edge Hybrid contains high-quality and sturdy materials, like faux latex and nine-gauge coils. Because of this, we expect this mattress to last a long time – at least 10 years.

Off-Gassing

When you open a new bed-in-a-box mattress, it’s common to notice a faint chemical smell. This was true with the Viscosoft edge, but after two days, the smell completely disappeared.

Noise

We didn’t hear any noise when testing the Viscosoft Edge mattress, but it’s possible the coils could start to squeak as the years go on.

Sex

If you’re looking for the best mattress for sex, chances are, you want a bed that’s easy to move around on. Because of its responsive coil system, the Viscosoft Edge Hybrid mattress fits the bill.

Common Viscosoft Edge Hybrid Mattress Complaints

Most customers love their Viscosoft Edge mattress, but a few folks had complaints. Because this mattress has a medium firmness level, it could lead to lower back pain for stomach sleepers, who need a firm mattress to prevent back pain.

How Does The Viscosoft Edge Hybrid Compare To Other Mattresses?

Before buying a new bed, it’s smart to weigh your options. Let’s compare the Viscosoft Edge to two other popular hybrid mattresses: Lucid and Casper.

Viscosoft Edge Hybrid vs Lucid Hybrid

The Viscosoft Edge and Lucid Hybrid mattresses have many similarities, but they aren’t identical. Both have a 6.5/10 firmness level, and both work well for hot sleepers. The Viscosoft Edge has more advanced features, however, such as the removable cover made out of phase change material and the layer of faux latex foam.

Lucid Hybrid side sleeping

Coming in at 10” tall, The Lucid Hybrid mattress is shorter than the Viscosoft. However, if you’re on a tight budget, this could be a good way to go. The Lucid Hybrid costs significantly less than the Viscosoft Edge.

Who Should Get The Viscosoft Edge Hybrid?

  • People who want a taller and more durable mattress
  • Especially hot sleepers

Who Should Get The Lucid Hybrid?

  • People who want to save money
  • Lightweight and average weight people

Viscosoft Edge Hybrid vs Casper Hybrid

The Casper Hybrid and Viscosoft mattresses have similar price points, but they shine in different ways. The Casper Hybrid mattress has zoned support, which means it feels firmer toward the center and softer near the head and foot. If you suffer from back pain, this mattress may help you keep your spine in the correct alignment and relieve some tension.

Casper Hybrid - Back Sleeping

The Casper Hybrid feels slightly firmer than the Viscosoft Hybrid, making it a better choice for some stomach sleepers. Both beds work well for hot sleepers, and they both perform well in terms of edge support and motion transfer. However, only the Viscosoft Edge has a removable cover.

Who Should Get The Viscosoft Edge?

  • People who want a washable and removable mattress cover
  • Fans of medium-firm beds

Who Should Get The Casper Hybrid?

  • People with back pain
  • Fans of firmer mattresses
