How To Use Sunbeam Heated Mattress Pad

How does the Sunbeam heated mattress pad work? Let’s check it out.

Setup

Setting up the Sunbeam heated mattress pad isn’t as intimidating as you might think. Simply put the mattress pad on your bed like you would any other mattress topper or protector. One side of the mattress pad has a plastic wire connector, which I recommend placing toward the head of the bed. This way, you can easily hide the long wires behind a headboard or stack of pillows.

Next, plug the controllers into the plastic connector and connect the other plug to a wall outlet. You can then place the controllers on either side of the mattress.

Features

The Sunbeam heated mattress pad is made out of durable polyester and has 12 heat settings. The 19.5 ft power cord easily reaches most wall outlets.

Queen and king size mattress pads come with two heat controllers and allow sleepers to adjust the temperature on either side of the bed. This makes it great for couples who have different heat preferences!

Safety Settings

Many people wonder if heated mattress pads are safe. As long as you don’t keep the mattress pad on for long periods of time, it shouldn’t damage sheets or bedding.

Fortunately, the Sunbeam heated mattress pad automatically shuts off after 12 hours of use, so you don’t need to worry about remembering to turn it off every morning.

It’s important to note a few key safety considerations:

  • Do not trap or pinch the cords.
  • Do not iron, bleach, or dry clean this mattress pad.
  • Do not put on top of a pull-out or fold-up bed.
  • Never fold or bunch up the heated mattress pad while it’s plugged in. This could result in overheating.
  • It should never be used by infants or people with poor blood circulation.

My Experience

Sunbeam has the largest heat range of any heated mattress pad I have tried. The 12 settings range from slightly warm to very hot. I took a nap on the Sunbeam heated mattress pad while it was on its highest setting, and I felt my muscle tension melt away.

I wouldn’t personally want to keep it on the highest heat setting for longer than 20 minutes because it can start to feel uncomfortably warm. I recommend a low or medium setting for a long night’s rest.

FAQs

For more info, check out our FAQ section below.

Are heated mattress pads safe?

Yes! But it’s important to follow safety guidelines. The Sunbeam has an automatic shutoff function, but if you purchase one without this feature, you’ll want to make sure the heated mattress pad is not in use for longer than 12 hours. It’s also important to closely follow the product’s care instructions. The Sunbeam heated mattress pad should not be bleached, ironed, or dry cleaned. Do not place the Sunbeam mattress pad on top of a fold-out or fold-up mattress, and never keep the pad bunched up while it’s in use. Additionally, heated mattress pads should not be used by infants or people with poor blood circulation.

Can I put a heated mattress pad over memory foam?

You should not place a heated mattress pad directly on top of memory foam. However, most memory foam mattresses have thick covers that protect against heat damage.

Can you put a heated mattress pad over an air mattress?

We do not recommend placing a heated mattress pad on top of an air mattress, because it could be a fire hazard.

Can you leave a heated mattress pad on all night?

Yes, you can leave a heated mattress pad on all night as long as the pad sits flat against the bed. If the wires get bunched up, the mattress pad could overheat and become a hazard.

Do heated mattress pads use a lot of electricity?

Heated mattress pads don’t use up too much electricity. Most products use between 60 and 90 watts of electricity every night, which ends up adding a few cents to an electric bill.
