Nectar Mattresses Overview

The Nectar mattresses really need no introduction, but let’s do it anyway! Nectar has been one of the most popular online mattresses brands for a number of years and offers some of the most comfortable memory foam around. You can choose from the Nectar Classic, Nectar Premier, and Nectar Premier Copper in both all-foam and hybrid versions. For this comparison, I will be focusing on the all-foam models.

While all of these mattresses boast great comfort and cooling, they do have their differences. This means each model will be better for sleepers with different firmness and price preferences.

Who Should Choose the Nectar Classic? Who Should Choose the Nectar Premier? Who Should Choose the Nectar Premier Copper?
Those on a tighter budget Side sleepers Extreme hot sleepers

Similarities And Differences Between The Nectar Mattresses

Let’s start off by seeing what the similarities and differences are between these three mattresses.

Similarities Differences
They are all all-foam mattresses. They are different heights.
They feature soft memory foam in their top layers. You get differing amounts of memory foam with each mattress.
They all let you sink into the mattress a fair bit. They are different in terms of price.
They all contain cooling features. They have differing amounts of cooling materials.
They have great motion isolation for couples. They vary in terms of how hot you’ll sleep on each one.

Nectar Mattress Firmness And Feel Differences

Now, let’s take a look at how the firmness and feel of the Nectar mattresses affect their performance for different sleeping positions.

How Firm Are The Nectar Mattresses

On a scale of 1-10, the Nectar Classic mattress scored a 6.5/10, which is the industry standard for medium-firm. The combination of memory foam, transition foam, and support foam provides the Nectar Classic with a great balance of comfort and support.

The Nectar Premier and Nectar Premier Copper feature thicker layers of memory foam, and this makes them feel slightly firmer. Both the Nectar Premier and Nectar Premier Copper scored a 6/10, a bit softer-than-average.

Sleeping On The Nectar Mattresses

Starting with the Nectar Classic, I enjoyed the mattress’s balance of comfort and support while back sleeping. I felt my hips sink into the top layer of memory foam, but the transition layer kept them from sinking in too far.

Side sleeping, I sank down into the mattress and felt some pressure build-up around my shoulders and hips. However, I weigh 270 lb, so my weight may be causing me to sink in too far. If you weigh less than me, you should feel better relief around pressure points.

Stomach sleeping, the Nectar Classic was too soft for me. Stomach sleepers require support under their hips to prevent them from sinking down into the mattress. I could feel this happening on the Nectar Classic.

Back sleeping on the Nectar Premier mattress, I also felt some good comfort and support. That said, I still preferred back sleeping on the Nectar Classic mattress. The thicker layer of memory foam didn’t offer me as much support.

When I moved to my side, I felt better pressure relief on the Nectar Premier. That extra memory foam helped relieve more pressure around my shoulders and hips. However, this softer design provided even less support for stomach sleeping.

I had a similar experience back sleeping on the Nectar Premier Copper mattress. It has the same firmness as the Premier, so I felt less support than I felt on the Nectar Classic.

Side sleeping, I got a bit more pressure relief on the Nectar Premier Copper mattress. The extra-thick layer of memory foam helped the pressure just melt away. And, similar to the Nectar Classic and Nectar Premier, the Nectar Premier Copper was not supportive enough for me.

What Do The Nectar Mattresses Feel Like?

The Nectar Classic and Nectar Premier both boast a soft, slow-moving memory foam feel. Lying down on these memory foam mattresses, you’ll slowly sink in and feel the memory foam conform to the curves of your body.

While the Nectar Premier Copper has a thicker layer of memory foam on top, in my experience, it exhibits more of a balanced foam feel. You’ll sink in a fair bit, but it will be easier to move around on this mattress.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Sleepers in this weight range should like sleeping on all three mattresses. However, if you just sleep on your back, the Nectar Classic will be the way to go. Its perfect balance of comfort and support is ideal for back sleeping.

Side sleeping, average weight people should feel better pressure relief on the Premier and Premier Copper. These beds’ thicker comfort layers will ease more pressure around the shoulders and hips.

Average weight stomach sleepers should find a firmer mattress overall. The Nectar mattresses won’t be supportive enough to hold up your hips.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh less than 275 lb could get enough support from the Nectar Classic, Premier, and Premier Copper. However, if you weigh more than this, you should consider a mattress made for heavy people.

Side sleeping, heavyweight people should prefer the Nectar Premier Copper. That said, if you weigh over 300 lb, you still might feel some pressure around your shoulders and hips.

The Nectar mattresses will not be supportive enough for stomach sleepers in this weight range. Take a look at our best mattresses for stomach sleepers for some more options.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb

Lightweight back sleepers should have a similar experience on all three mattresses. They shouldn’t sink in too far and should get enough support from the Classic, Premier, and Premier Copper.

Side sleepers in this weight range should also find all three mattresses to be a good match. If you are a lightweight side sleeper, you shouldn’t sink too far into any of these mattresses and should mostly feel the comfortable memory foam.

Lightweight stomach sleepers could get enough support on the Nectar mattresses. Lightweight stomach sleepers don’t need as much support as heavyweight and average weight people. The Nectar mattresses should be supportive enough if you don’t weigh too much.

Nectar Mattresses Performance Differences

I ran the Nectar mattresses through a gauntlet of tests to see how they performed with cooling, motion transfer, and edge support.

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

While they are all-foam, the Nectar mattresses all feature cooling materials to prevent overheating. They all boast breathable covers and gel-infused foam that help dissipate heat.

However, the Nectar Premier Copper features even more cooling materials. The combination of a cooling copper cover and phase change material makes the Premier Copper the coolest of the Nectar mattresses. See our best cooling mattresses page for more options.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is important for couples to think about. If your partner moves around on their side of the mattress, you don’t want to feel that on your side. Memory foam mattresses are usually the best at motion isolation, and the Nectar mattresses are no exception. I saw very little motion transfer on these mattresses, so they should all be good beds for couples.

Edge Support

While the Nectar mattresses are all-foam, they still exhibit nice edge support. Sitting and lying down near the edges of all three mattresses, I didn’t feel them collapse too much. I felt secure and did not feel like I was going to fall off.

Out of these mattresses, the Nectar Premier Copper features the best edge support. It is thicker than the other Nectar mattresses and offers better support near the edge.

Durability

The Nectar mattresses all contain durable, high-end materials that should maintain their shape, comfort, and support for at least seven years. The Nectar Premier and Premier Copper should last longer than the Nectar because they feature thicker layers and more deluxe designs.

Off-gassing

When you unbox a new mattress, you’ll probably notice a chemical smell coming from the mattress. This is called off-gassing and it is normal with bed-in-a-box mattresses.

While I experienced some off-gassing with all three Nectar mattresses, this smell did go away after 48 hours.

Noise

The Nectar all-foam mattresses are extremely quiet. I heard no noise from any of these mattresses when I changed positions or rolled around.

Sex

If you want a good mattress for sex, you want something that is bouncy and responsive. This will make it easy for you and your partner to move around.

None of the Nectar mattresses are particularly responsive. While the Premier Copper features a bit more bounce, it might not be the best option for sex.
