Firmness and Feel Differences

Let’s check out some differences in how firm these mattresses are and how it feels to sleep on them.

How Firm Are The Avocado Green And WinkBed Mattresses?

The Avocado Green Mattress is a 6.5/10 on the firmness scale. Since a 6.5 is the industry standard, you can expect the Avocado Green to be about average firmness. Lighter weight people will think it’s softer because of the fluffy wool on top. Heavier people will press through the wool and think it feels much firmer.

The WinkBed mattress is a 7/10 on the firmness scale. While close to the Avocado, it is the firmer mattress. Since WinkBed has three firmness options: soft, luxury firm, and firm, you can customize how firm the mattress feels.

Sleeping On the Avocado Green And WinkBed Mattresses

The Avocado Green might not be as great of a choice for stomach sleepers. These sleepers might want to look elsewhere for a firmer mattress. Back sleepers should find excellent lumbar support and side sleepers should be happy with this mattress as well. However, heavier side sleepers might want to look at the best mattresses for heavy people.

Avocado Mattress Review

The WinkBed mattress offers a balance of comfort and support. Because of its zoning, it provides excellent lumbar support. In fact, the zoning is so good, it’s one of the best mattresses for back pain and sciatica. However, side sleepers and stomach sleepers might also like this mattress. Lightweight side and stomach sleepers will feel supported, but average to heavyweight stomach sleepers might want to look at different models.

What Do The Avocado Green And WinkBed Mattresses Feel Like?

Both mattresses are bouncy and easy to move around on. The WinkBed Mattress is one of the most responsive mattresses on the market because of its coil system. It’s easy to move around on and to switch positions in the middle of the night.

The Avocado Green is also bouncy, but the soft pillow top makes it a bit more plush.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

The Avocado is a great choice for average weight back sleepers. The comfort layers contour the body, and the hips sink in due to the mattress’ softness. Average weight side sleepers might enjoy the addition of the soft pillow top to reduce pain on pressure points. However, stomach sleepers should look elsewhere, as the Avocado won’t provide enough support.

With three firmness options, the average weight sleepers should enjoy the WinkBed. The Luxury Firm, a medium-firm option, is a great match for average weight back sleepers. Sleepers who spend the entire night on your stomach might want to opt for the firmer option.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Avocado Green will feel much firmer for heavyweight sleepers. These sleepers press into the support layer. Sinking into the support layer will give heavyweight back sleepers a good deal of lumbar support. They will likely find their hips sink into the mattress the perfect amount. However, heavyweight sleepers who weigh over 300 pounds might find this mattress doesn’t provide enough support. Avocado Green is too soft for heavyweight stomach sleepers, and their hips might bow into the mattress. Side sleepers should find the Avocado is a good fit, though they might experience pain in their shoulders and hips over time.

Heavyweight back sleepers under 300 pounds will find this is a good fit. Sleepers heavier than this will want to look at mattresses dedicated for heavier people. The softer model will be pressure-relieving for heavyweight side sleepers. Stomach sleepers should consider the WinkBed Plus instead as none of the other three options will provide enough support.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

The Avocado Mattress will feel softer for lightweight sleepers, adding some contouring around their body. This is perfect for lightweight back and stomach sleepers. Stomach sleepers, however, will not find the support to keep their body in alignment.

The WinkBed Luxury Firm is a good choice for all kinds of lightweight sleepers. Side sleepers should feel direct pressure relief, stomach sleepers should obtain enough support, and back sleepers should enjoy a mix of support and comfort.

Mattress Construction Differences

These mattresses are constructed differently. Let’s check out their construction!

The Avocado Green hybrid mattress will feel soft and breathable because of its button-tufted organic cotton cover. This material will also wick away moisture.

In contrast, the WinkBed has a Tencel comforter. This comfortable cover should provide a breathable and cool feel to the mattress.

Comfort Layers

Standard Avocado Green mattresses have a 3” top layer of Dunlap latex rubber foam. For extra comfort, you should consider the added mattress topper which provides an extra 2” of organic wool and natural latex.

The WinkBed has a Euro-style pillow top made of multiple foam layers for its comfort layer. It also has  gel infused foam to help with cooling.

Support Layer

The Avocado Green has a support layer with an extra inch of dunlop latex. Eight inches of pocketed coils sit underneath to provide extra durability and support.

In WinkBed’s support layer, you’ll find a layer of individually-wrapped coils. Since the coils are zoned, they provide additional support wherever it is needed.

Mattress Height

Without the pillowtop, the Avocado Green is 11” tall. With the extra pillowtop, it’s 13” tall.

The Winkbed Mattress is taller at 14”.

Avocado Green and WinkBed Performance Differences

Still deciding? Let’s check out some key performance differences.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

A huge benefit of latex is that it’s naturally breathable and cooling. When added with the moisture-wicking wool top, you shouldn’t overheat. It’s a great option for a cooler-sleeping mattress, especially compared to a memory foam mattress.

The WinkBed has several features which will protect you from overheating. The tencel cover is naturally cooling, while the gel infusion in the foam dissipates heat. The coils provide plenty of airflow throughout the mattress.

Motion Transfer

Latex isn’t the best at handling motion isolation. If someone sleeps on the Avocado Green with a partner, they might feel them if they move on their side of the mattress.

The WinkBed also isn’t great at handling motion transfer because of its softness. Disturbance travels across this mattress as it’s very bouncy and responsive. Neither mattress would be the ideal choice if you’re shopping for a mattress with a partner.

Edge Support

Despite the less-than-great motion transfer, the Avocado Green has good edge support.

A man sits on the edge of the bed.

However, the WinkBed has better edge support because the supportive coils add extra security if you’re sitting or lying down near the edge of the bed.

WinkBed - Edge Support

Neither mattress should sag or break down quickly. The WinkBed’s high density foam and sturdy coils should allow this durable mattress to last at least 7-10 years.

The Avocado Green should last longer than ten years due to its 8” coils and durable layers. While pricey, it’s a great investment.

Off-gassing is another name for any chemical smell you noticed after unboxing the mattresses. Because it’s made of organic materials, the Avocado Green does not have an odor and is entirely made of nontoxic materials. It’s one of the best best organic and nontoxic mattresses on the market.

The WinkBed also doesn’t have any noticeable odors because it’s made with CertiPUR-US certified foams. This means the foams are made without PBDE flame retardants, formaldehyde, mercury, lead and heavy metals, ozone depleters, and prohibited phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Sleepers will find both the Avocado and WinkBed to be quiet mattresses. Because the WinkBed relies on coils, it could begin to squeak as time goes on.

The WinkBed is the best mattress for sex, but the Avocado Green should work well too. Partners should find both of these mattresses bouncy, responsive, and easy to move around on.

Company Policies

The warranties, sleep trials, and return policies differ between these two mattresses as well.

Warranty Info

Avocado has an impressive 25-year warranty because they designed the Avocado Green to last 25 years. However, full coverage is only available for the first ten years. In years 11-25, the coverage is prorated and limited.

WinkBed comes with a lifetime warranty.

Sleep Trial

The Avocado Green has the longer sleep trial between the two mattresses. The 1 year sleep trial is far above the industry average.

The WinkBed has a 120 night-sleep trial.

Return Policy

Avocado asks customers to sleep on their bed for at least 30 days before returning. If you aren’t satisfied within the 1 year trial period, they offer a full refund and will donate the mattress to a verified nonprofit or charity.

WinkBed offers free shipping and returns. If you want to return a mattress, they will coordinate with a donation center or recycling to come pick it up. They also offer the option to set up an exchange for one of their other mattresses.
