Haven Premier Mattress Firmness and Feel

When reviewing mattresses, we always pay close attention to firmness and feel. Keep reading to see whether the Haven Premier is a supportive and comfortable option for you!

How Firm is the Haven Premier?

On our firmness scale, the Haven Premier feels like a 6/10, or slightly softer than medium-firm. The top foam layers have a quicksand sort of feeling, so sleepers will sink deeply into the mattress.

Sleeping On The Haven Premier

While back sleeping on the Haven Premier, most people should feel well supported and comfortable. Haven’s foam layer provides excellent body contouring and pressure relief.

Haven Premier Side Sleeping

The Haven Premier is a decent match for side sleepers. Lightweight people shouldn’t feel too much pressure on their shoulders and hips. Heavier people, though, may sink deeper into the foam layers and notice a bit of strain on pressure points.

The Haven Premier isn’t a great mattress for stomach sleepers. Because it’s a bit softer than most mattresses, sleepers will feel their hips sinking into the top layers. If this is your preferred sleeping position, you’ll want to look for a firm mattress that promotes proper spinal alignment.

What Does the Haven Premier Feel Like?

The Haven Premier has a slow-moving memory foam feel. Sleepers will gently sink into the top layers and feel the mattress hug their bodies. It’s not very easy to move around or shift sleeping positions on this mattress.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

Average weight back sleepers should find the Haven Premier is a great match. The top and base layers provide ample support.

Side sleepers in this category should also feel comfortable while lying down. It’s possible some people could feel some pressure on their shoulders, but overall, this mattress is a decent pick for side sleepers.

Stomach sleepers will feel the Haven Premier is too soft. The top layers gently sink in with pressure, which causes hips to sink in too far. This could pull your spine out of alignment.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

Heavyweight back sleepers will find the Haven Premier gives enough comfort and support. Those who weigh closer to 300lbs, however, may sink deeper into the comfort layers and feel less support.

Heavier side sleepers will likely feel some pressure on their shoulders when lying on the Haven Premier. Similarly, stomach sleepers in this category won’t get the proper spinal support. Because of this, the Haven Premier isn’t one of the best mattresses for heavy people.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

Lightweight sleepers should feel the Haven Premier is a great pick for all three sleeping positions. While back sleeping, lightweight people should notice a good amount of support from the base layer. While side sleeping, lightweight people will feel significant pressure point relief from the foam layer.

Although this is a softer mattress, it’s still a good pick for lightweight stomach sleepers. People who weigh less than 130lbs shouldn’t sink too far into the foam layers, so they likely won’t feel their bodies getting out of alignment.

Haven Premier Mattress Construction

Now, let’s peek past the cover and take a look at the Haven Premier’s construction.

Cover

The Haven Premier has a washable quilted cover that’s designed to regulate body temperature. If you have issues with sleeping hot at night, this cover should help.

Comfort Layers

Next, there’s a 3” layer of Haven’s cooling buoyancy foam. This material is gel-infused for added cooling and pressure relief.

Haven Premier Construction

Below that sits a 2” layer of supportive transition foam. This layer has small holes throughout for added airflow and breathability.

Support Layer

Finally, there’s a 7” support layer made with high-density foam. The durable base layer gives the mattress a long lifespan.

Mattress Height

The Haven Premier is 12” tall.

Haven Premier Mattress Performance

Want to learn about the Haven Premier’s performance? Let’s examine its cooling features, motion transfer, edge support, and durability.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

The Haven Premier has many cooling features, so it’s great for people who tend to sleep hot at night. The quilted cover helps regulate temperature, and the gel-infused comfort layer helps dissipate heat. Additionally, the transition layer is perforated to promote airflow. Overall, this should be a cooler mattress.

Motion Transfer

If you sleep with a partner, motion transfer is an important aspect to consider. If a bed doesn’t isolate motion well, you may be disturbed by your partner’s movements in the night.

Because the Haven Premier is an all-foam mattress, it does a great job with motion isolation. To test this, we placed a glass of water in the center of the bed and pushed into the layers around it. We noticed very little disturbance of the liquid in the glass, so the bed performs well in terms of motion transfer. This means it could be a good mattress for couples.

Edge Support

Edge support is another important aspect to consider when shopping for a new mattress. If you lie near the edge of the bed, will you feel like you’ll roll off?

Haven Premier Edge Support

Overall, the Haven Premier’s edge support isn’t great. When sitting on the side, the bed collapsed a bit. If I were to bend down and tie my shoes, I may slide right off of it. When lying near the side, I felt the edges sinking a good amount.

Durability

The Haven Premier is an affordable mattress made with high-quality materials. Overall, we expect the mattress to last between 5 and 7 years.

Off-Gassing

It’s common for mattresses to off-gas after opening. Usually, this means customers notice a slight chemical smell as the mattress expands. This was the case with the Haven Premier mattress, but the smell completely faded after 48 hours.

Noise

The Haven Premier is an extremely quiet mattress. Because it doesn’t have any innersprings, we do not anticipate this mattress becoming noisy with time.

Sex

Couples looking for the best mattresses for sex typically want a bed has a good amount of responsiveness. If this is a top priority for you, the Haven Premier isn’t the best pick. This bed-in-a-box has a slow-moving memory foam feel, and it’s not very easy to move around on.

We always recommend mattress shoppers read the fine print before making a final purchasing decision. Read on to learn about Haven’s company policies.

The Haven Premier has an 18-month sleep trial period.

Common Haven Mattress Complaints

Although there are tons of positive reviews, we occasionally come across some negative feedback. Some customers have complained about the mattress’s lack of bounce. The Haven has a slow-moving memory foam feel, so it’s not a good pick for those looking for more of an innerspring feel.

The Haven also isn’t a great pick for stomach sleepers. It is slightly softer-than-average, so it won’t be supportive enough for this sleeping position.

The Casper comes in at 7/10 on our firmness scale, while the Haven feels like 6/10. The two beds also differ when it comes to feel. The Casper has a balanced foam feel, so it’s easy to move around on. The Haven has a slow-moving memory foam feel, and people can sink into the top layers.
