Country Living McKinney Mattress Firmness And Feel
Once you understand the firmness and feel on the McKinney, you’ll be better equipped to decide whether this is the right mattress for your sleep preferences. So let’s take a look at the firmness and feel on this mattress!
How Firm Is The Country Living McKinney?
We ranked the McKinney mattress around 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the McKinney is notably firmer-than-average. It layers memory foam over firmer polyfoams to create a sturdy sleep surface.
That said, note that firmness is slightly subjective. Depending on your body weight and personal preferences, you might find that this bed feels a bit firmer or softer.
Sleeping On The Country Living McKinney?
We found the McKinney mattress to be a good mattress for back sleeping. Its firm feel kept the spine well supported. That being said, some sleepers might feel like it is too firm for this position.
Because the McKinney is on the firmer side, it’s not well suited to side sleeping. We felt pressure around the shoulder and hip. Side sleepers usually want to choose a softer mattress overall.
The McKinney’s firm feel is good news for stomach sleepers, who should enjoy decent spinal support. The mattress really offers good support under the hips.
What Does The Country Living McKinney Feel Like?
The McKinney mattress has a firm, balanced foam feel. You shouldn’t sink very far into this mattress, so it’s easy to move around and change positions.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
Average-weight back sleepers should enjoy a balance of comfort and support on the McKinney. Those on the lighter end of this range might think it is a bit firmer, however.
Average-weight side sleepers will almost certainly feel too much pressure in this position and will want to look for a softer mattress for side sleepers.
Average-weight stomach sleepers should experience plenty of spinal support. Their hips shouldn’t be bowing into the mattress whatsoever.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
In general, the McKinney is not a great match for heavyweight sleepers. It’s unlikely to provide adequate support for back and stomach sleepers, and it will feel too firm for heavyweight side sleepers. This bed is mostly designed for kids or guest rooms.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
Lightweight back sleepers should enjoy a blend of pressure relief and spinal support on the McKinney mattress. Lightweight side sleepers might experience too much pressure around the shoulder and hip. This bed should be plenty supportive for lightweight stomach sleepers.
Country Living McKinney Mattress Construction
Let’s peel back the cover on the McKinney mattress and take a look inside! We’ll detail each layer of this bed’s construction and share how different materials influence how this bed feels.
The McKinney mattress boasts a cooling cover that’s made with advanced, highly cooling fabric. The surface of the bed shouldn’t overheat.
The primary comfort layer on the McKinney consists of 3” of copper-infused memory foam. The memory foam offers a bit of pressure relief, while the copper infusion helps with cooling. Next up there’s a 1” layer of gel memory foam followed by a 1” layer of medium high-density polyfoam. The polyfoam serves as a transition layer between the memory foam comfort layers and the support layer underneath.
The McKinney’s support layer consists of 8” of high-density base foam. This layer offers structure and support for the mattress overall.
The Country Living McKinney mattress is 12” tall.

Country Living McKinney Mattress Performance
We put this Country Living mattress through a barrage of tests with regard to temperature regulation, motion transfer, edge support, and more. Let’s see how it performed!
Sleeping Hot Or Cold
The McKinney is an all-foam mattress, which means it could trap some heat. That said, it does include several design features to help it sleep a bit cooler, including a cooling cover and gel and copper infusions in the memory foam layers.
Based on our tests, the McKinney handles motion transfer very well. The thick memory foam layers absorb movement and help minimize disturbances across the surface of the mattress.
In our experience, the McKinney mattress doesn’t have particularly great edge support. Our larger reviewer didn’t feel very secure while sitting and lying down near its edges. That said, kids and teens should probably feel fine.
The McKinney is a value mattress, so it’s not the most durable bed around. With proper care, expect it to last for between 5 and 7 years.
We did observe some initial off-gassing from the McKinney. Expect this to dissipate within a few days.
We didn’t notice any real noise while moving around on this mattress. Thanks to its foam core (as opposed to coils), it should remain noise-free.
The McKinney is a firmer mattress with some bounce, so it should be easy enough for sexual partners to change positions. Partners shouldn’t feel trapped in this mattress.

If you are not satisfied with the McKinney mattress, you can return it after 30 days and before the end of the 18-month trial. (The brand asks people to test the bed for at least 30 days since it can take a while to break in a new mattress.) So long as you request the return within that window, the brand will refund the full price and will not charge a return fee.
How Does The Country Living McKinney Compare To Other Mattresses?
Curious to know how the McKinney stacks up against more established beds on the market? We pitted it against the popular Casper and Purple mattresses.
Country Living McKinney Vs Casper Mattress
Both the McKinney and the original Casper are all-foam mattresses that layer softer foams over a sturdy support foam. (The Casper also comes in a hybrid model.) One major construction difference? The Casper features a Zoned Support system that makes the mattress firmer near the center (for extra spinal support) and softer near the head and foot (for extra pressure relief). The McKinney is not zoned.
Since they have fairly similar constructions, it’s probably not surprising that the McKinney and Casper feel pretty similar. They both have a balanced foam feel with some bounce.
We found both of these beds to be firmer-than-average, and the McKinney feels a bit firmer than the Casper. We ranked the McKinney around 7.5/10 (notably firmer-than-average) and the Casper around 7/10 (a bit firmer-than-average).
These beds are also pretty similar in price. A Queen-size McKinney mattress costs $1,373 at full price, while a Queen-size Casper starts at $1,095.
Who Should Choose The McKinney?
- People who want a slightly firmer mattress
- Stomach sleepers
Who Should Choose The Casper?
- People who need extra lumbar support
- Fans of a slightly softer mattress
Curious about the Casper? Learn more about this bed in our comprehensive Casper mattress review.
Country Living McKinney Vs Purple Mattress
The McKinney and the Purple feature very different constructions. The Country Living mattress is an all-foam bed that layers memory foam over high-density polyfoam. The Purple uses a unique gel grid to create a one-of-a-kind construction and a temperature-neutral sleep surface.
These beds also differ significantly in firmness. We ranked the McKinney around 7.5/10 (notably firmer-than-average), while we ranked the Purple right around 6.5/10 (or medium-firm).
Another big difference? Feel. The McKinney has a balanced foam feel, while the Purple has a unique, gel-like feel that is simultaneously squishy and firm.
One area where these beds actually have something in common? Price. The McKinney starts at $1,373 for a Queen-size mattress, and the same size Purple costs $1,199 at full price.
Who Should Choose The McKinney?
- Lightweight people
Who Should Choose The Purple?
- Heavier sleepers
- Hot sleepers
