For this mattress review, we’ll focus specifically on the Puffy Lux Hybrid. This luxurious bed creates fantastic pressure relief and body contouring. That said, it will work better for some people more than others. Here’s a quick overview of who may like this mattress.

Puffy Lux Mattress Firmness and Feel

Now, let’s get into the really important stuff – firmness and feel.

How Firm Is The Puffy Lux?

At Mattress Clarity, we rate a mattress’s firmness on a scale from 1 to 10. The industry standard for medium firm mattresses comes in at 6.5/10, which is what we rated the Puffy Lux as.

Even though this mattress has springs at the bottom, the comfort layers feel especially slow-moving. This makes the mattress a fantastic choice for people who prefer softer beds, but still want support.

Sleeping On The Puffy Lux Hybrid

Because of its soft feel, the Puffy Lux works well for most back and side sleepers. The comfort layers will help alleviate pain on pressure points, and the springs create ample support.

Most stomach sleepers, however, won’t get the necessary lumbar support on the Puffy Lux. For this sleep position, people need an especially firm mattress. On the Puffy Lux, stomach sleepers will likely feel their hips sink into the top layer, which can lead to lower back pain over time.

What Does The Puffy Lux Feel Like?

When you rest on the Puffy Lux mattress, you’ll gently sink into its foam layers. But thanks to its layer of Plush Dual Cloud foam, you won’t have difficulty moving around or switching sleeping positions. Even though the Puffy Lux Hybrid has a layer of strong coils at the bottom, it doesn’t have a traditional bouncy feel.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

For average weight sleepers, the Puffy Lux Hybrid should work exceptionally well. Back sleepers should feel comfort from the foam layers and support from the coils underneath. Side sleepers should get plenty of pressure relief from the company’s unique slow-moving foam.

Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, will find this mattress too soft. If this is your preferred sleep position, you’ll want to find a bed that’s much firmer. That way, your hips won’t sink out of alignment, and you’ll be less likely to develop lower back pain over time. For more information, take a look at our picks for the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

Heavier back and side sleepers will sink into the foam layers, but they should still feel plenty of support. Those who weigh closer to 300lbs, however, may need something specifically designed for their body type.

Heavyweight stomach sleepers will feel their hips dip into the foam layers quite a bit. This could lead to back pain as time goes on. Instead, we recommend people in this category to purchase one of the best mattresses for heavy people.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

Even though lightweight back and side sleepers won’t sink into the comfort layers too much, they should still get plenty of pressure relief on the Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress. Some lightweight stomach sleepers may get the support they need, but most people will need a much firmer mattress.

Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress Construction

Let’s see what this mattress is made of! Keep reading to learn about its construction.

Cover

Puffy’s stain-resistant cloud cover feels luxurious and soft. It’s also hypoallergenic, so you can rest easy knowing your bed will stay fresh for a long time.

Comfort Layers

The Puffy Lux has several comfort layers. The first, made of their gel-infused Cooling Cloud Foam, helps dissipate heat. Next up, you’ll find 1.5” of Puffy’s Dual Cloud Foam. This material creates wonderful pressure relief, but it doesn’t cause sleepers to feel “stuck” inside the bed.

Puffy Lux Construction

Beneath this sits Puffy’s Climate Comfort Foam. This 2” transition layer helps wick away humidity and moisture, so you can stay cool all evening. There’s a reason we named Puffy one of the best cooling mattresses!

Support Layer

The support layer features Puffy’s Firm Core Support Foam and Contour-Adapt Coils. These materials not only help stabilize the mattress, they create additional edge support.

At the very bottom of the bed’s cover, you’ll find a grip base layer. This helps the mattress stay secure to the top of the frame or foundation.

Mattress Height

The Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress is 12″ tall.

Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress Performance

Now that we know about sleeping positions, firmness, and feel, let’s take a moment to examine the Puffy Lux’s performance features.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

If you tend to sleep hot at night, the Puffy Lux could help you out. Made with their special Cooling Cloud foam and Climate Control layer, this bed helps dissipate heat and keep sleepers cool. Plus, the coils at the bottom create exceptional airflow.

Motion Transfer

If you share a bed with a partner, you’ll also want to consider a bed’s motion transfer. If a mattress doesn’t isolate motion well, you could wake up when your partner shifts sleeping positions in the night.

Luckily, the Puffy Lux Hybrid performs well when it comes to motion isolation. Even though it has coils at the bottom, you won’t feel too much bounciness on this bed. The thick memory foam comfort layers do a great job of isolating movements. Take a look at our picks for the best mattresses for couples for even more great options.

Edge Support

Edge support also plays a huge role in a bed’s performance. If you don’t feel secure near the sides of a mattress, you won’t be able to utilize the full surface area of the bed.

Puffy Lux Edge Support

Puffy’s edge support isn’t the best, especially when you’re sitting on the side. When lying down, you’ll also notice a bit of a collapse near the edges.

Durability

The Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress contains high-quality materials and CertiPUR-US® certified foams. Because it’s so well made, we expect it to last at least 10 years.

Off-Gassing

When unboxing an online mattress, it’s common to notice a slight chemical smell at first. In the mattress industry, we call this “off-gassing.” It is, however, completely normal and the smell usually fades within 48 hours.

The Puffy Lux mattress does have a short off-gassing period. To speed up the airing out process, we recommend placing the bed in a well ventilated room.

Noise

We didn’t notice any noise when testing the Puffy Lux mattress.

Sex

Couples looking for one of the best mattresses for sex typically want a bed that feels responsive and bouncy. If the top layers have a “quicksand” sort of quality, it’s often difficult to move around on top of it.

The Puffy mattress does have some of that slow-moving memory foam feel, but most people won’t have an issue moving around on top of it. And because the mattress has coils at the bottom, it should still work well for couples getting intimate.

Company Policies

When shopping for a new mattress, we always urge customers to read the fine print. Below, we’ve outlined Puffy’s warranty information, sleep trial period, return policy, and more.

Warranty Info

The Puffy Lux mattress is backed by a lifetime warranty.

Sleep Trial

This mattress has a 101-night sleep trial period.

Return Policy

If you aren’t happy with your purchase during the 101-night sleep trial, you can return it for a full refund.

Common Puffy Lux Mattress Complaints

Puffy has earned many glowing reviews, but we occasionally come across some negative feedback. Usually, these come from people who don’t like slow-moving memory foam mattresses. Yes, the Puffy Lux mattress has coils at the bottom, but it doesn’t feel like a traditional innerspring mattress. You’ll still slowly sink into the layers, which is great for many side sleepers, but it may not work for those who sleep on their stomachs.

How Does The Puffy Lux Hybrid Compare To Other Mattresses?

Now, let’s take a moment to see how the Puffy Lux Hybrid compares to the brand’s other models.

Puffy Lux vs. Puffy Lux Hybrid

The all-foam version of the Puffy Lux has been discontinued. If you buy the Puffy Lux today, you’ll receive the Hybrid model.

The hybrid version shared many similarities with the all-foam model. The main difference? Puffy’s Contour-Adapt coils! These materials not only make the mattress more durable, they also create additional airflow and support.

If you prefer an all-foam bed, we encourage you to read the Puffy Cloud mattress review. And take a look at our Puffy mattress comparisons for even more in-depth information.

Puffy Lux Hybrid Vs. Puffy Royal Hybrid

Even though the Puffy Lux and Puffy Royal are both hybrid mattresses made with cloud-like memory foam, they have a few differences.

The Puffy Royal feels about the same as the Lux, coming in at 6.5/10. But, the Royal is also taller and has more layers. These will also extend the bed’s lifespan.

Puffy Royal Hybrid mattress

But what really sets the Puffy Royal apart is its zoned polyfoam support layer. Because the bed feels firmer in some areas and softer in others, it helps people maintain the proper spinal alignment. This can prove especially beneficial for people who suffer from back pain.

Who Should Get The Puffy Lux Mattress?

  • People who want to save a bit of money
  • Those who prefer a slightly softer mattress

Who Should Get The Puffy Royal Mattress?

  • Those who want a longer lasting and more luxurious mattress
  • Those who suffer from back pain
